She didn't believe she had a great voice!? Wow... Wouldn't it have been nice if Karen cared more about her wonderful talents then her own body image? RIP Karen :(
Karen's presentation needed some work? I don't think so! Hearing her sing, sounding and looking like an angel is one thing, but doing this while also playing the drums, is simply amazing!
I don't get it, I love to see her behind drums, as also much people do! why did they want to control her so bad? :/ She is a legend and what she did... I mean a woman drumming and singing at the same time... it's legendary! she's an icon!
I told Randy Schmidt lets go on National TV & I will tell you everything you left out of Little Girl Blue- People are really beginning to understand that this gentlemen is making money off of Karen's misfortune. Randy puts on his little suits, goes out signs books, hasen't donated anything towards eating disorders, he has even talked Karen's friends into talking to him, it's on video- However did anyone notice the peolpe who count the most remained LOYAL! Point made!
the miraculous clarity that amazes you so and seems to separate her miles from other singers is coming from her spirit-- it wasn't clouded with typical industry vanity, callousness, or something jaded-- this was a kind of vocal crystalline purity which happens RARELY
...it seems that even John Bettis and Tony Peluso were awesome people. They surrounded themselves with quality in a tough, unforgiving industry. I wish that someone would have told Karen how gorgeous she looked as well as how gorgeous her talents were.
My goodness Karen is just so beautiful, it's so sad she thought she was fat, because she was just breathtaking in her early days, and I wish she had remained that beautiful healthy size, she had such a glow to her!
Great video footage, some of which I've never seen before, Linda Perry stated that Karen's voice was comparable to Patsy Cline's, with whom I was thinking about before, in which it does, but I think Karen's voice was a bit richer and clearer.
From what I've seen, Karen's presentation didn't need "some work". Also, what she needed was for more people to not be controlling her. If it was tough to see her, she should have been elevated, like Ringo Starr. Watching live performance videos, you can see how much Karen loved the drum-playing.
What's so awesome is that Karen was so perfect that her live songs sound almost exactly like the studio versions. This is one of the many reasons nobody can cover the Carpenters without looking lame.
Believe it or not theres a taiwanese singer (who sings english as well) sounds 95 percent like Karen.

When I was a kid I thought all the songs Karen Carpenter sang were about herself. Now I realize her voice was so sincere.

I don't see anything wrong with the photo album on Close to You. Richard it was after all the seventies.

If I ever see a documentary on Carpenters without someone describing them as "squeaky clean", I'll chew my own toes off.

What is so astounding is that Karen never thought much of her 'fabulous voice' . Such an unassuming gal with one of the best voice of all time.

Thanks for Posting!!
Being able to carry that much emotion on stage and leave it there must have been a challenge.
I'd like to think she was able to enjoy their success as much as so many others have.

Karen did so well. I know they didn't want her behind the drums, but she really could drum too. She was one of the best.

Karen was a one of a kind. Streisand performed We Only Just Begun on one of her albums in the 70s. It never came close.
