  • a snes controller for xbox 360 would be cool

  • Could I do the same thing with a Sega Genesis controller? I want to get the Sega Collection on 360 and play Columns with the regular controller like I did back in the day

  • Know what the funny thing is? There are Saturn controllers that work on the PS3 directly with no mod or PCB xD

  • @strykah92 you do realize this video is 4 and a half years old now, that Saturn PS3 controller didn't exist.

  • @twistedsymphony

Oh of course, but to this day getting non-360 controllers and fightsticks to work on the thing is a chore because of Microsoft's stupid lockout chip.

  • @strykah92 ya so suck it

  • @dvdnunley

    No u.

  • @strykah92 that was a weak ass come back and u made urself seem like an ass with that comment about twistedsymphony he did somthing obviously you cant so ill stop messing with you cuz your not worth it

  • awesome,

i would like to do the same on a dreamcast controller, i've modded it so the wire comes out from the top of the controller, not the bottom, so now i have an unused hole there, and i was planning to put a mini9-din port in it (the same used in genesisII/32x video in/out), so i can plug the 9-din>saturn female adapter in it and then plug a saturn controller to it!

then, maybe add even the motion sensor mod made for x360 controllers ;)

  • nice

  • Any clue if a adapter like this would allow a Sega Saturn Twin Stick Controller to work with Virtual On Oratorio Tangram on XBLA?

  • the chip is only programmed to decode the inputs from saturn "gamepads" it doesn't work with the 3D controller... if the Twin Sticks use the same protocol as the gamepads than they'll work, otherwise they wont and I'd need to know the twinsticks protocol to make them work.

  • I've been researching that myself too, Twin Sticks are seen by the Saturn as just ordinary gamepads. You would just need to map the buttons properly.

  • Comment removed

  • That's awesome, and it looks like it works really well. If I ever feel ambitious enough I may have to try building one of these for myself.

  • have you ever ruined a trace on the wirless 360 controllers if so how to fix this and what to use my wirless controller took a crap after i tried to solder new joysticks in and ripped a trace up it turns on and the lb and rb buttons work fine but no other buttons any ideas of what may have happened?

  • Is there any delay between button presses and when the game registers it? I remember hearing about that with some of those Keyboard/Mouse adapter they make that allow you to hook up any USB device to your 360 so for fighting games it wasn't good because it would delay when trying to do combos. Does this happen with the adapter you've made here?

  • The adapter translates commands faster than the Xbox 360 control can send them to the console... in other words for all intents and purposes there is no delay at all and playing with the saturn controller is every bit as responsive as playing with an Xbox 360 controller.

I did calculate the actual speed at some point it's somewhere in the forum thread linked in the description.

  • That's great. I'd love to try and make one for myself. I can't stand the 360 controller for Street Fighter 2 HD Remix. I'd kill to use my Saturn controller. I have a friend who's pretty good with this kind of stuff. I might ask him to help me make one based on the information you posted if thats alright with you of course.

  • Go Right ahead... I encourage anyone who wants to do this themselves to do so. I you or your friend need any help be sure to let me know :)

  • I'm improving on the design slightly to allow snes pads too. Mega Man 9 W00t! :o) I'll post a guide when I'm finished.

  • how much for a sega gen 6button adaption for xbox 360? damn that would save lives

  • I'm suprised I haven't seen any comments claiming this is fake.

    Thank God.

  • twisted have you tried one of the USB Sega Saturn controllers? I have one and though it works on ps3/PC the 360 wont recognize it. It seems like since it has a USB connection it should be easier to mod to play it on 360 than an original saturn controller. What do you think?

  • Xbox 360 only work with USB devices that it's specifically programmed to work for. Just because the basic interface is the same doesn't mean the can communicate. For instance the human interface for speech, my mouth (USB port) is the same between me and a Japanese person but I can't communicate unless I also know Japanese (have the proper driver). Because of the way the 360 is designed MS intentionally locks out these devices so they can control who can and can't communicate.

  • Theres no adapter or way to make an adapter that would let other non microsoft usb products work for the 360?

  • nope

  • this is exactly what i need i'm disabled and its definately not easy using the analog sticks in a fighting game but back in the sega days i never had a problem would you be interested in building me one of these? i'd be definately willing to pay! let me know either way i've tried the madcatz fightpad AND fightstick on SF 4 i do not care for them but this is awesome!... LET ME KNOW THANKS IN ADVANCE

  • I've tried to reply to this comment 3 times now and youtube just delete it... anyway Benheck designed a product specifically for gamers with handicaps called the Access Controller made by a company called eDimensional... you should check it out.

  • thats brilliant! is it possible to make one for a super nintendo to xbox 360 converter?

  • yeah, you could do that. the programming would be different but that's about it.

  • Cheers...i might look into doing that!

  • Make me two. :( Now, I'm curious, I have absolutely no knowledge of the jargon used/tools used to make these how long would it take you think for me to be able to learn how everything works to be able to do this? As in, what's the difficulty to make this with no prior knowledge/experience, also the price wise to make them. Any ideas on how good the hori soul calibur arcade stick is or the madcatz SF4 one is?

  • if you can solder then building one of these yourself isn't all that hard, just very time consuming. I've never used the hori or the matcatz sticks for the 360. but they're the only game in town unless you want to build your own joystick. I like the X-Arcade stick for that kind of stuff my MS wont let them release a version for the 360, it's too bad it would be a really great peripheral.

  • Thanks for the video. I have been looking for a Saturn to 360 adapter for a very long time. Saturn pad is the BEST 2D game controller EVER BUILT!! It is the ONLY controller I use for all my fighting games.... (yes, I am suck at using the joy stick). =P

  • Wish I had this for SFIV....or a Dreamcast arcade stick

  • Whats the point ??

  • the saturn controller has arguably the best d-pad ever built, and it's got a 6-button layout which makes it perfect for fighting games.

  • damn bro how big is ur tv????????????

  • measured diagonally... it's 114inches... not actually a TV though (I don't watch TV, just movies and video games), it's a projector, in this clip I'm using a Boxlite Raven but I've since upgraded to an Optoma HD73, the screen is a Dalite HP

  • don't be upset but... why did you built that? (I'm kinda perplex)

  • that's a legitimate question...

    1. I got tired of telling people it was possible and having to explain the why and how, so I just set aside some time and DID it.

    2. the Xbox 360's d-pad is horrible, and the saturn pad is MUCH better for fighting games

    3. I have fun building stuff and teaching myself new skills in the process.

  • WOW you must have a lot of free time

  • I don't actually, there's a reason this took me 2 months to build instead of a weekend, and there's a reason it's been 2 years and I haven't built a more advanced version yet, despite hundreds of requests.

  • Sweet Sega should release it as a 3rd party controller. Or the genesis one. Or both!

  • why in god name would you wona do this, ps2/ps3 yea defo but the saturn has less buttons.

Make one for ps3 moosh !

  • there is no reason to make one for a Playstation because Sega actually released a saturn style controller for the PS2, you can buy a usb adapter to use it on the PS3 as well... not to mention the playstation d-pad is pretty good (at least better than the 360s) so there's no much reason to make it for Sony's machines.

  • man the only thing keeping me from getting a 360 is that there isn't a SNES controller adaptor

  • Saturn and 360 controllers are very similar

  • 3D controller yes but not the 6 button.

  • Cool.

Maybe you could do a mod to the Saturn pad - to add "back", "start" (and maybe even the triggers too).

  • because an saturn controler is the best fighting pad ever!

  • agreed

  • @pornokatze00000 just curious man I have a SF4 fightpad. In your opinion is the D-pad on the sega saturn controller feel better than the SF4 fightpad? I want to know because I will buy one.

  • wow. I like how the camcorder has a vertical mode. What type of camera do u use??

  • actually the guy filming was dumb and rotated the camera, so I fixed it later with the editing software (Premiere).

  • why not a xbox 1 controller to xbox 360? i have a lot controllers and a Wheel... does anyone know a adapter to xbox 360? thanks

  • what about ps2 or ps3 controller adapter for the 360? My friend is bumbed out that all the controllers for 360 suck for mortal combat. The D pads are lame.

  • YO!

How did you come up with the design? I see you have two breadboards and some chips(which microcontroller?)

You are a real smart guy :) Give me the details please!

  • Thats awesome man, Saturn was the shit.

  • wow looks like your hard work paid off i wonder how lond did it take you to make this

  • Wow i love you setup!

Great video by the way ;]

  • Thanks, I've actually upgraded my theater room since this video... I'm running an Optoma HD73 now for a projector so the next video is sure to be much much brighter.

  • Very nice. I've got the HD70, but on a Gray Wolf II. My videos are only bright when the camera is near the projector.

  • sweet

  • virtual on! virtual on for next gen!

  • dude that crazy how long did it take u to figure that out?

  • it didn't take me very long to figure out how, actually building it took some time though.

  • I'll give you $100 and both pads if you do one for me.

  • ROFL why the hell would you do all of this to play your xbox 360 someone please tell me, he just made a video about nothing for nothing

  • I did it because the d-pad on the 360 controller sucks and it only has 4 face buttons. for games like DOA4, Street Fighter II and UMK3 the d-pad is vital. I chose the Saturn controller because it's known but fighting game aficionados as the best fighting game pad ever made.

  • Someone needs to do this the opposite way around, the Saturn's 3D pad is easilly broken, using an xBox pad for nights would rock!

    segasaturn(dot)co(dot)uk

  • This is amazing, I wish you could purchase something like this for the 360, or perhaps a Saturn to USB controller for the 360.

    Is that possible?

  • unfortunately not, all controllers and other accessories have security chip that must be purchase by Microsoft. Meaning MS controls who can make accessories. My hack here used an official controller as part of the adapter circuit which is how I did it without the security chip. Sega made a controller in a saturn shell for PS2 if they thought they could sell it I'm sure they'd make one for the 360 as well.

  • This is a very easy stuff to make, altough it requires you to have some knowledge of logical circuitry. As I see it, the device mounted on the breadboard simply reads the signals from the saturn controller port and activates the propper buttons on the xbox controller. Easy to make and design, but yet it's a very good and unique idea. I really couldn't care less about xbox, since I do not have and do not want one, but still, this is a great project. Good job.

  • how did you start? do you have a computer education or did your use your iron will and start research?

  • Cool Hey,How Do You Set Up Everything And Do You Know Or Remember Where You Bought That? Cuz Its A Sweet Setup And I WANT IT!!

  • yer thats a great idea i no wat u mean especially wen ur trying to pull off those long combos its very diffucult, good idea

  • im not being funny or anything but why would u want to do that

  • In all seriousness... just to see if I could. I saw a lot of people talking about whether or not creating a controller adapter was possible. I had an idea about how it could be done, and I did it. so now when people ask I can just show them how I did it.

  • thats pretty cool but how does it work with other games like gears of war for example

  • you can't use this to play any games that require the analog sticks (like Gears of War), it's only good for games that simply don't use the sticks. The idea was to use a controller with a really good D-Pad since the one on the Xbox 360 sucks for fighting games and classic XBLA games. Games like Gears of war don't depend on precise D-Pad use, the Xbox 360 controller is probably the best for those types of games anyway.

  • What kind of tv is that .

  • It's a projector... the screen is a Dalite Model B High power (glass beat) pull down. the projector here is a Boxlight Raven. thought the raven has since been replaced with a Optoma HD73

  • cuz thats cool. is about reverse-engeniring. is the thrill of making something new with something old.

  • wow nice! I want one of that ^^

and you have a big tv... mine is 17'... I'm humiliated

  • The 360 actually isn't crowded at all, aside from the slim PS2 sitting to it's right it's got 10" of clear space behind it and 10" of clear space to the left, and nothing above it at all, it sits on glass to isolate it from the electronics below and there is a cooling vent that runs along behind all of the electronics to keep the ambient air temperature controlled at 64degrees. For a launch day console (now over a year old) it has never given me any problems.

  • Wow! That was awesome! Must be cool playing the 360 with a Saturn controller! Also Nice room you have there! But I would recommend moving your 360 to a more wide open area because I heard that putting the 360 in a small space can cause it to overheat pretty easily. Just a suggestion.

  • lol thats really cool.

  • Because the D-Pads are horrible on the 360 controller, go play Street Fighter II and you'll be so angry with how crappy they are you'll probably throw your controller against the wall.

  • y dont u use a 360 contorler

  • Saturn controllers are awersome,, great idea

  • Cool pad (very useful for playng DOA) and

    nice screen too

  • on a projector also. Nice setup!

  • the one and only :)

  • heyyyy its twistedsymphony...the very same of xbox scene?

  • hell no. not for fighting games that is.

  • Nice work on the controller!

But I'm even more impressed with the entertainment center! Nice setup you got there!

  • haha nice I can imagine its really fun to play with an saturn controller nice work

  • It'd be impossible to build one without sacrifising a 360 controller because all xbox 360 devices require a security chip provided by MS; It would have to be an officially licensed product. At best I could make a built-it-yourself kit that would require some soldering and the cracking open of a controller.

If you want to duplicate this project on your own: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=509748&st=165&p=3546461&#entry3546461

  • Would be cool to have a version that doesn't require you to sacrifice a 360 controller.

  • When can I buy one?

  • ur such a n00b

u know nothing of the work at XS

  • Mad Nice! Will be great with the older games commin out! Good Work!
