  • We are playing this in my high school jazz band. It's pretty hard but we will get it. Gotta admit, trombone part is a little comfusing

  • there's a tuba part to this...

  • was the first alto solo written or improv, cuz we do it improv but it doesn't seem like it here

  • You all did a fantastic job! We are playing this song in band and I myself love the old western style. To the comment which talks about Jazz being "American" I say shove off! Music is an International language I which any Human can speak, play and understand.

Swing on my friends, swing on.

  • Thank you

  • Tip the trumpet at like measure 9 i do belive sonds better with a harmon mute, and also you guys gotta play agressivley

  • omg. i can't even begin to be bash on these guys. omg the sax feature. practice it. make it more clear. drummer, do a better fill than a snare roll. the guitarist needs to learn jazz before he plays this chart. dude, its on 2 and 4. you just chuck the chords on 2 and 4 in this chart. nice and staccato. he's playing it like you should play satin doll. this is count basie. listen to the track. just listen to the freakin song on basie straight ahead.

  • dude that guitarist needs to play the chart the way its supposed to be played. same with the drummer. dude, learn jazz.

  • just temporarily lobotomize yourself to forget hay burner, and then pretend this is a super duper shuffle that came out, :P

And the polite way of saying it, most of the band was right on but yeah, either the drummer didn't listen to jazz or this song much (OR he really really wanted to do it differently)

@scannon710 wow, no, Jazz was born in America and yeah, we should be proud, but there are no racial boundaries anymore.

also, nice to see solid-musician-girls on the bandstand.

  • there is a reason that jazz is american!

  • @scannon710 You mean American, like Americans forcibly kidnapped the slaves that invented it? That kind of American?

  • nice !! simply nice !!

    so layed back.. nuthin forced...

    loved it

  • Great video and sound. i just want to say that the best instrument to play in a big band would be the bass trombone as demonstrated in this video

  • ouch the drummer just has completely the wrong idea. he's playing strict dotted crotchet-semiquaver on the hi-hat/ride, which is probably how the it's notated on his part, but it ruins the whole arrangement. has he heard jazz before?

  • Yeah. I've actually heard that on a couple videos, and I don't understand it! A shuffle beat doesn't fit the song at all.

  • No creativity in the piano part!

It's exactly as transcribed! What would Basie do...

  • great job. saxes u guys lean into it more, give it some attitude. nice job

  • 2nd trumpet u need a harmon mute. It sounds so much better with one. Need to be more precise on the notes. Probably one of the better versions on here but not the best I have heard. :(

  • Yea in our Jazz band i play this with a harmon mute sounds pretty cool!

  • the drummer doesn´t swing...

  • thanks for playing and posting. i needed the sax tutti...when it comes to the super climax around 2.30 i feel marvellous tension and a great shake in the trumpets introducing the relief around 2.39. really fun listening to your band. ah..and my reagrds to the girl on trombone next to the drummer (-:.

  • trumpets dont't hit the kicks very well not precise enough.and i miss the mutes in the first few lines.

drummer's trying too hard to swing

but all in all not bad...one of the better versions=)...nestico is harder to play then it sounds

  • i thought it was pretty good....but i've never heard it play so...corny. the length is all wrong...the drummer isn't swinging, the shout section should be nasty, the sax soli should be nasty too...loud i mean. not saying you didnt play it bad...i'm just saying it was kinda unprofessional

  • drummer almost got the swing but hardly hittin any shots! Drive the band!

  • my jazz band is playing this when we go to the jazz festival but we sound nothing like this. TRUMPETS YOU GUYS R AWESOME

  • which arangement is this? never heard it before...

    dang, get a groove guys!

  • The arrangement is 'Hayburner', composed by Sammy Nestico.

  • drummer dont swing

  • true story before u play nestico u NEED to learn to swing!!!!

  • lol i like the guy on piano. he's entertaining to watch =D

  • few split notes by the trumpets ... but thats unavoidable. One of my all time favorite pieces to play in band! Well done guys

  • In my jazz band, this is our favorite peice...or one of them, and its obvious why. Nestico was a genius! Definitely a great composer that knows how to catch any jazz lover's...ear...

  • tru

i still say best evr is rockin n rhythm

  • I wouldn't know XD

  • This song is done very well I must say. The only thing that could be improved is the volume of the saxes. It might just be the acoustics of the room but the saxes are being swallowed by the brass.

  • The girl playing tenor sax is very nice...

  • It's spelled 'Nestico' FYI, but it was pretty good.

  • wow! this is an amazing video its surprising that the big bulky bari sax can be so agile. the jazz band im in is playing that right now, and were no where near that good xD
