A note on the first couplet: Iqbal emphasized "endeavour" in contrast to the inertia caused by "achievement." Instead of talking about achieving love, he talks about the glory of the endeavour. Have high goals. Never be satisfied. To express this idea, he tells his beloved to extend the time of "effort" for his restless heart (which doesn't want to rest); she should add a few more locks to her tresses so that he remains involved for a longer time in his labour of love in unfolding them

Beautiful Persian poem by the great sage IQBAL. Iqbal visioned Pakistan as the heir of the Islamic civilization of Hindustan - that Islamic civilisation was essentially Khurasani in its best form. Persian was its language of high culture. In Pakistan Persian was taught in schools for ages - but after Zia Ul Haq and Saudi Arabias influence - Persian was removed from the curriculum. I hope that Pakistan moves back toward that ideal of Iqbal's vision and save itself from ZIA's negative legacy.
