@bionoble The only real benefits to synthetic are that you can go longer intervals beteeen oil changes because it doesn't break down as easily and is less likely to gunk up your engine do to thr consistant particle size. that being said convental oil is sufficient unless it isnt certified.
@KJBPSkipper All oils have antiwear additives and synthetic oil is modified dino-oil. it still comes from the ground. That being said synthetic has a longer life in your engine and can lubricate your engine more effectively.
@extremedrivr You do realize right that synthetic oil is still a petroleum product right? All they do is make it so that the particals in it are of equal size. It is still dino juice in the end.
the guy is full of shit sorry but u cant use syn oil in rotary engines just like he is recommend this guy to use 89 octane fuel when his car required 93
@mirnes18 Agreed....DO NOT use synthetic in Rotary engine..like RX-7 or RX-8...you will fuck that car up and be buying a new engine...dont believe me....try using it and run it for a week then come back here and tell me how much your spending on damaged parts.
Horse Shit - pumpability - yes. But all engines have a check valve to keep the galleries full of oil and the wear on start up is where the parts have sat together from hot and the oil has squeezed out and drained away - and tiny areas are in contact with each other. These are the wear points on start up.
@JayzBeerz the XPR is considered a racing oil and is not API approved. but the standard royal purple is API certified. make sure you got the right category of oil right.
@cbr900rr919 It has been API SL forever, they just now moving to API SM and SN because they are forced to by consumers. I got an email from Chris from RP if you want me to forward it to you I will. All there oils are performance oils that's why they never made them SM or SN until now.
just put the oil your manufacturer recommended and you'll be fine. Syntetics should be used on cars than get abused quite often, and higher weight (10w40,20w50) should be used in high mileage cars or for racing purposes
Hey Bobby what do you think of the new oil from Japan called Eneos? Seems to be a high quality Synthetic oil right up there with Royal Purple and Amsoil.
agree with this video except with one point - always use the right viscosity for your engine. An engine designed to run on 20w50 or 20w60 will be destroyed fairly fast if you put 0w20 in it.....anyways, good video.
@wardubo I had a tap anywhere from 0 to 3000 rpms on my '02 WRX. Just switched to mobil 0w30 synthetic (I think it had pennzoil 5w30 conventional in it before) and it's gone.... completely. I'm pretty impressed, to say the least.
@kwaidonjin I used to use Pennzoil and Castrol GTX 5w30 conventional, then I switched to Castrol Full Synthetic 5w30. Only thing that sucks is now I have to spend twice as much when I change my oil.
@Pinin500 - I've been using 0W-30 AMSOIL synthetic motor oil in every vehicle I own for many years and the fuel economy savings have been fantastic. I currently have 170,000 miles on my daily driver using AMSOIL synthetic 0W-30 motor oil and 25,000 mile + oil drain intervals. What am I doing wrong? :)
At the end of the day, the pre-luber is the real engine saver.
A cold start is a cold start. Of course, the Ceratec treatment may be a snappy idea. I really don't think NASA will start coating the space shuttle with Amsoil to prevent disintegration upon atmospheric re-entry. I've heard that captive gorillas and sometimes prisoners throw their excrement at the zoo-keeper/prison guards.
Hopefully normal citizens have evolved beyond this? Oops, gotta deliver a 2-headed baby now.
I have been using what I think is conventional oil in my 2005 camry since i bought it and car now has 115K miles, if I switch to full synthetic oil at this point will it ruin or hurt my engine? will the change from dino oil to syn oil affect the seals or caskets? I think toyota oem oil is conventional for camry at the dealership but not sure.
@Rico8458 I have 149k miles on my accord now and Just switched to synthetic. And the answer is no not really. Before there was some kind of myth going around about that it would swell the seals since they aren't used to synthetic type motor oils. But safe to say it won't do any harm according the the label i read on the synthetic oil i bought (pennzoil ultra).
I think older engines, (over 140K), are served better from slow flow oils as the start up wear is already well done. The thicker, high-mileage fossil oils that are made to burn less seem to serve these engines to better fill gaps in worn bearings and keep nasty combustion deposits to a minimum. In other words, I'd rather have the protection of a thicker oil when my old engine gets hot. as it's not like it doesn't flow at all when cold. It just takes a few secs longer.
There are only 8 specific auto-motor oils available on the U.S. market that are synthetic(Man-Made)!! Dino oil may be cheaper, but why waste precious crude oil to make motor oil, when motor oil can be made by hand using other resources?!
There are only 8 specific auto-motor oils available on the U.S. market that are synthetic(Man-Made)!! Dino oil may be cheaper, but why waste prescious crude oile to make motor oil, when motor oil can be made by hand using other resources?!
There is pros and cons to both......Synthetic is more exspensive but is how you say more "green" and easy to dispose of. But like bionoble said, petrol based oil gets the job done and its cheaper. petrol oils also have detergents and cleaning agents so it dosnt really matter.
Well you say or do what you want,I would never go back to dino-oil considering it doesnt provide the anti-wear additives synthetic does , plus you still get deposits with dino-oil even with regular service,I will pay the extra 10 bucks a t walmart for the 5.1 quart jug of mobil 1 to know my engine if pushed extra hard..and trust me it does...makes it another day.
@JTyler52 - Top performing synthetic oils can save a lot of money vs dead dinosaur oils. I couldn't afford to use dead dinosaur/petroleum oils. They just cost too much!
Hype? Not at all. There is not ONE down side to using synthetic oil! Yes, it does cost more, but for a reason. It costs more to make! Synthetic oil does everything BETTER than mineral oil! If you love your car and plan to keep it! Use syn!!! (not all cars can use it, always check first!!)
3 times the cost....you can get a 5 quart jug of synthetic oil plus you filter at walmart for less than 30 bucks........less or the same your going to pay some high-school drop out at jiffy lube to do it,plus have you ever tore down two engines side by side, one that ran dino-oil,the other synthetic? There is no comparison my freind,I will pay the extra 10 buck at walmart, sorry.
@KJBPSkipper >----> You buy your oil from WM right? Sorry to burst your bubble, but WM does not sell Synthetic Oil(Man-Made)! Just because the label on a container has the word (synthetic) on it doesn't make it so! Synthetic Oils ARE Man-Made! The Base-Stocks(Base-oils) that are used come from sources other than Crude-Oil! BUT! You have to know what Base-Oils(Base-Stocks) are used in a companies product! That is crucial! Base-Stocks 1,2,&3 are Crude Oil. Base-Stocks 4&5 are Man-Made, BY HAND.
