  • They are celebrating because had Jupiter not been there to take the blow, those "little" comets would've destroyed our planet on the first impact!

  • lol...yea ! they are all lined up .......

  • @Seigu007: This was back in 1994 at a time when the theory of large Planetary Impacts was still largely doubted. These "nerds" are happy because the impact of Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter showed that large objects can and still do hit the Planets. Which is kinda relevant since in the last few years alone there have been 2 or more Near Earth Objects. So yeah.

  • what are these nerds so fucking happy about?

  • @Seigu007 Telescopic images and spectroscopy will tell you things you didn't know about the makeup and nature of the Jovian atmosphere, and the dynamics of large impacts. And like a distant thunderstorm, it's just a cool thing to watch in real time...as long as it's not *your* planet...

  • @Seigu007 That comet would have most likely hit the Earth or Venus if Jupiter hadn't pulled it in, and it would have wiped out all life on earth, we wouldn't be here now to discuss this.

  • jupiter is the planet of the devil, satan exisit in jupiter, those comets that impacted the jupiter's suface was wrafth of god to end lusifer's master pain to take over earth

  • @CSUSBlikesOmfgcata what the fuck are you talking about? HAHAHAHAH

  • Wait,I'm astronomy student, but why those retards are so excited. Yes,this was wonderful observation, but level of their happiness is too big...

  • i mean gum

  • @thisistherandomshow1 as long as you dont smack it

  • can I have some guy.....please

  • What a bunch of retards.

  • I fail to see how the event of Jupiter being struck 5 times by shoemaker comet fragments and which equated to an extinction level event if Earth was struck the same way would qualify as a "cheering" session for these astronomers..

  • @GTnumber1 Exactly what I was thinking, well I was just thinking why are they so happy about this.

  • can u imagine there's acutally aliens under those thick clouds and they've evolved to live on jupiter

  • @canuck1980 it IS huge, and, having never been there, only speculation exists. It might very well have a solid body beneath such a huge atmosphere. For all we know, we'll head there when Earth bites it.

  • @ShadowofLocke There IS a surface its just a very small ball of molten rock. Its the gasses on the way down that create so much pressure that it will crush anything sent down. They already sent a probe into jupiter once. It imploded under pressure after some distance. So there is no "underneath" like we think of on our planet. There is no gap between the crushing atmosphere and the "surface". The gravity of the gasses wouldnt allow it. Life withstanding that would be so hardcore.

  • according to nasa, comets are just a bit of icy dust and should not pose danger to earth assuming elenin collides with it... well, tell that to the people of jupiter (rip)

  • DAMN NERDS. rejoicing at the misfortune of jupiter people.

  • @attypulpol nah, we were fine. couple bruises but for the most part we're still jamming your frequencies and making people wear tin foil hats.

  • @ShadowofLocke we earthlings will sabotage your way of life there in jupiter. we will be sending you people from London for looting and sabotage purposes

  • The comet could've hit the newsreaders hair.

  • 0:26 cheers...Hip!

  • they're happy it didnt hit us you dumbasses

  • bunch of monkeys laughing and cheering

  • @TheLangstone its because its not really something you are able to witness and survive you dum twit

  • @cliffy84 Happens all the time in any part of the universe, they shoudn't be so happy

  • imagine a comet hits us and a bunch of aliens cheering

  • @edwardtang1977 They would be if they knew what tards we are as a species.

  • i dont know how and asteroid can impact jupiter i mean jupiter is a planet of gas...

can you help me with this question? send me a message thanks. :)

  • @TheJuannn3 Jupiter is presumed to have a molten core bigger than the earth. Surrounding this is metal hydrogen, surrounding this is liquid hydrogen with temperatures of thousands of degrees F, and pressures of a million times surface earth. The Jupiter probe released from Galileo survived 150 Km going in before being crushed by pressure of 22 times surface of the Earth. Believe me a comet may not even reach the liquid surface of Jupiter before being destroyed.

  • WTF are those stupid pple laughing about?

  • The people watching were aye lets get wasted... What have we learned today astronamers??? If we get one of those heading our way... WE'RE FUCKED!

  • @THEganjamatt On the contrary, large bodies in the Outer Solar System like Jupiter and Saturn have strong gravity which draw asteroids and comets towards them as opposed to entering into the Inner Solar System and threatening planets like ours. Jupiter in this respect acts like a big burly brother to us smaller wimpy nerd planets.

    That or a vacuum cleaner.

  • Almost glad it hit the edge of the night side, that way the fireball is more pronounced.
