WOW.. BRAVO PEEPS.....September 26, 2011 - Canadian Greens took part in a global movement to make the shift away from fossil fuels as part of our effort to solve the climate crisis. Moving Planet, spearheaded by 350.org, is a worldwide rally, with thousands of events taking place in countries across the globe. .. Check - FriendsofEarthScot (on you tube)
Research or no, I don't need a PhD to know that this is a ridiculous idea. Such measures to accomodate an industry that has no interest in protecting our environment is beyond preposterous. We'll look back on this and think, "Who came up with that bright idea?" When we stop accomodating the use of oil, that's when change comes. It has to hit industry first. Helping Americans stock pile oil so they're the last place on the planet that has it sounds like something from Mad Max.
@saismatters #1 he is the co-founder #2 the oil companies have a history of paying people off #3 Greenpeace has a history of burning bridges, he isnt the 1st co-founder to hold a grudge against Greenpeace. #4 he has provided no SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE stating that the tar sands isnt harmful
@saismatters Yup, it's pretty smart to not give a shit that we're destabilizing the global climate and destroying the environment with our (government's) overwhelming focus on profit over people. And just because the rest of Canadians weren't there doesn't mean we don't care. Don't generalize from your own short-sightedness.
@EllaEnchanted101 The fact that you think this pipeline is destabilizing the global climate and destroying the enviroment means that you've done ZERO research on it. Even the former founder of Greenpeace says there is minimal enviromental risk. As usual the people who go to these protests and the people that support them are a bunch of ill-informed sheep who yell alot about changing the world but DO nothing about it, expecting others will solve there problems. Have fun driving your car around.
@saismatters Dude, its not just about the pipeline, Its about everything we r doing. The pipeline and for that matter the tar sands is the poster child for global climate change and the destruction of our planet. There r many other issues like wildlife habitat destruction, the Amazon forest destruction, over fishing. This just so happens to be 1 of the single biggest issues not to forget to mention that Canada is the testing grounds for tar sands all over the world. We need to draw the line
@sensfan22 You`re not ``doing`` anything. Your whining to governments and hoping they will make your life better as you drive your car around, heat your house, and use plastics that oil makes, making you all hypocrits. If all you supposed ``enviromentalists`` truly wanted to make the earth better than you would use all the resourses you have to create products to make cars and vehicles that don`t use oil and gas instead of whining to people who don`t care.
@saismatters Funny u resort to idiocy & assumptions to stereotype me. I dont drive cars or use public transit, I cycle everywhere. In fact I cycled 2000 km this summer to raise awareness bout a bio-diverse area. Btw lets think realistically here...Lets think of 1 single thing that doesn't use oil in todays day & age. Running butt naked through the woods, oh wait u couldnt do that becoz ud get arrested for public indecency jackass. Stop being a brainless drone and open ur damn eyes
@sensfan22 Buddy your the clueless one. And if you live in canada and you say you don't use a car or transit your LYING! Go live in a cave, no one is stopping you. There is tens of thousands of square miles you can live and no one would bothering you. But than how would you live? How many trees would you have to burn to keep alive, to keep warm and cook your food? You would produce 5 times the amount of carbondioxide than you would normally living in civilization.
@saismatters Thx for proving ur ignorance.Btw I cycle in the winter through the snow too so STFU! And yes people do stop me from living in a cave, can u read?R u illiterate?I have to "OWN" the property in order to live their. The problem with society is we let ignorance, intolerance and stupidity run the place. As I say thisI realize u r so uneducated and ignorant it is pointless arguing with u because u have been taught since u were born to obediently listen to ur master with no questions asked.
@sensfan22 HAHA your a fool and you keep proving it. Your a sheep that believes everything he's told without doing a bit of research. baaaaaaa. baaaaaaaa. baaaaaaaa.
@saismatters Wat r u 2? It seems like im talking to a 2 yr old who has nothing better to say then to repeat wat I just said. I know u r but wat am I is prob wat ur gonna say next right?
@saismatters Oh the grammar police huh? Coz apparently using short forms is a bigger crime then destroying the entire planet & killing people and poisoning them. Get ur damn priorities straight then talk to me
@sensfan22 nope, but it shows that your lazy, unintelligent and shouldn't be listened too because of those points. If you really want to help the planet, perhaps you should stop polluting by stopping breathing! :)
@saismatters Wrong again, all it shows is that I dont wanna go over the 500 character limit. Stop the personal attacks becoz all they do is tell me that u have no real argument so u jump to personal attacks. It shows I have more ethics & im more of a man then u will ever be. Personal attacks r the path of the selfish & the unethical.
@saismatters Going back to the original subject, me using short forms doesnt change the fact that the tar sands r unethical & just plain wrong. My spelling doesnt change the fact that the tar sands r a violation to human rights, animal rights & nature. My spelling doesnt change the fact that the tar sands destroys lives. Life is more important then money. Life is more important then the economy. Y should the many have to suffer for the few to make a profit?
@sensfan22 The tarsand are unethical? you should look up the word and learn what it means before you spout words you don't understand? A violation to human rights? Thats the stupidest fucking thing I've heard this week. Ruining nature and the enviroment? Let me ask you a question fool, how many times have you been up to the oilsands? Answer---ZERO. I go up there monthly, so I have a much better idea whats going on up there than some eastern jackass!
@saismatters So ur telling me that poisoning 1st nations people is not a violation to human rights? Ur telling me ripping up vast forests for open pit mining isnt environmentally harmful. Name me 1 single scientific study that says tearing down entire forests is environmentally friendly? Name me 1 scientific study that says dumping toxic waste in rivers is healthy for the animals and humans that rely on or live in that source of water? Its not rocket science here, it doesnt take a fuckin genius
@sensfan22 a genius your not. Your a 23 year old typical eastern canadian who doesn't have a clue or a degree. The only first nation's that complain are when the cameras are in front of them or they think they can make a buck. They're fine. I fish with them all the time. The rivers are clear as a bell, unlike the Great Lakes in your neck of the woods. The air is fresh, unlike the smog in Ottawa and Toronto and hate to tell you BUB, NO ONE is suffering in Northern Alberta, you just wish we were.
@saismatters Again ur throwing a bunch of ignorant words at me but u have yet to give me a single example of any scientist not paid for by the oil companies that support the tar sands
@sensfan22 there has been HUNDREDS of reports and studies done by the American Government, Canadian Federal Government and Albertan Government that you automatically ignore because you believe that they're all controlled by Big Oil. So even if I showed you one, you wouldn't believe it. You'd rather just spout your rhetoric(was that to big a word for you) so you can feel good about yourself
@saismatters INDEPENDENT STUDIES, WTF dont u understand bout INDEPENDENT STUDIES. Of course right wing govs that will sell their soul to make a couple bucks will publish studies in support of the tar sands. In my city, our municipal gov came up with a study stating the river is too polluted becoz of the birds. Its been a known fact that we have had probs with sewage dumping into the river. Fact: govs lie
@saismatters Btw, I know how systems work, I know how corporations work & I know how the gov works. I see it in play everyday in my own neighborhood. Ignoring laws, destruction, no consultation with the affected parties, the lies and the BS. This system is not new to me, I have grown up in it, I c it played out on a daily basis. Ud be amazed at wat u learn just by taking part in ur own community. Id try getting more involved, u might learn a thing or 2, maybe even open ur mind a little
@saismatters People r suffering, The native communities that drink the water suffer from a much higher then average cancer rate and other sicknesses, Try talking to the people who live their rather then relying on info the gov or the oil companies give u via the propaganda on ur idiot box
@saismatters Says the moron who cant type a single sentence without spewing a stereotype. I have talked to people from affected communities, I have been to the area, I have many friends who have been to the area.
@sensfan22 Your lying, just like you lied about never driving a car or using transit and that you bike everywhere. and your last statement prove you wouldn't listen to anyone who disagree's with your "science" lol. Your pathetic.
@saismatters I never said ive never driven a car, I said I dont DRIVE a car, PRESENT TENSE. I havent driven a car in 4 yrs, in the last 2 yrs I have taken public transit 5 times. Anyone who really knows me will tell u I cycle EVERYWHERE. I mountain bike as a passion. U dont get to take a 2000 km cycling trip by driving a fuckin car.
@sensfan22 There's no point at keeping to the subject. You're to nieve to talk too, so it's much more fun for me to piss you off now. You're a liar, a hypocrit, a fraud. period.
@saismatters Again with the personal attacks. Do u not have any REAL arguments. Btw id stop trying to call me a liar, hypocrite and a fraud as u know absolutely nothing bout me. Btw for someone who is sooo worried bout grammar its spelled "HYPOCRITE" not hypocrit
@saismatters Lets not forget to mention the Dalai Lama doesn't support the Tar Sands. Or that James Hansen NASA's leading climate scientist was 1 of the many arrested in the Washington tar sands protest. I repeat, NASA's TOP climate scientist. Or r u gonna tell me that science is complete bs? Name me a single peer reviewed scientific report that supports the tar sands? Name me 1 single independent study not paid for by the oil companies that support the tar sands.
@sensfan22 the DHALAI LAMA?? WHO GIVES TWO SHITS? I'm sure he's done lots of research on the subject. How about the fact that the actual FOUNDER of Greenpeace is fine with the oilsands?
@saismatters Maybe u should turn away from that damn idiot box as it seems to have brainwashed u. All the governments ever do is lie. Try thinking for urself rather the brainlessly repeating that crap u heard over the idiot box last night from that corporate propaganda. Try actually going out & talking to people who r affected, try getting involved in ur community, if u go in seeking truth u need not look far beyond ur neighbors door
@saismatters Not that this is any of ur business but u call me a hypocrite but the reality is I would love to live in a cave away from society, literally. The reality is in todays society i cant because that requires "OWNING" the land and paying taxes on it which then requires getting a job and conforming to social norms which r wrong. The fact that I have to use oil to live in our society shouldnt be a sign of hypocrisy but a sign of how wrong our society is & that there is a real problem
@sensfan22 The only problem with our society is that we let morons with half truths run around like chickens with their heads cut off screaming the world is dying and it's all man's fault!
The only problem, if people try to cross the barrier to attempt to walk into the US Congress, they would be shot, tazed or taken into indefinite confinement for being a national security risk.
@Twelvizm Well, there was a huge protest in Washington from Aug 20 to Sept 3 on this same topic. 1253 people were arrested, which makes it, to my understanding, the largest civil disobedience action in decades. So don't give up hope for Americans yet.
Would you rather our economy be in ruins and us be in the tatter of civil unrest like Greece? Grow up people. There is more important things going on in the world right now than your tree huggy hippy actions
@jgush1337 I take it u r 1 that would rather eat money in the future. I would start practicing for that future and start a diet which consists of only eating money. Grow up, there r more important things going on in the world right now then materialism.
Interesting how these folks put their own freedom on the line to stand up for the rights of future Canadians.. Good for them..Lets hope that Harper and his gang listen... For a change
How many of those protestors drove there or used petroleum products? All of them. When they can give up these luxuries then I'll care about what they have to say.
There was a group from Montreal that biked down for this protest. 200 kms in one day on a bike, now that's commitment... I'm sure you wouldn't know much about it. Lots of people came from Ottawa, and we got there on bikes and public tranport – that's what myself and all my friends there did. The fact that you just assume without any knowledge that "all" us burned oil to get there shows your own prejudice and blindness.
jeez. i almost cried at this. People willingly stepping over a fence and getting arrested to stop the deaths of other innocent Canadian citizens. Every wave of people, old and young, holding hands while "breaking the law" to save people, animals, and the climate alike. It goes to show just how much Canadians care about other Canadians, and about our country.
