Refugees? More like forced labourers. And the white immigrants that followed had to work very hard to develop Australia to a point where this land could support anyone. You want to give away the fruit of their labour but it’s not yours to give.
The modern phenomenon of third world illegal immigrants throwing themselves into the arms of our social welfare system has no parallel with white settlement in Australia, and you show your naiveté by using such a foolish analogy.
BS! Most "refugees" have flown to Indonesia from Pakistan (where they already had refuge). They then pay large sums of money to people smugglers to get them into Australia where they can take advantage of our piss-weak approach to the problem.
Australia should take the humane approach of Japan, and Singapore, and immediately deport illegal immigrants to where they came from. If we did that they wouldn't come in the first place.
We need to do what ever we can to help people under persecution- It seems so obvious. I can't understnd the strong sentiment against providing refuge to innocent people Even if they did" jump a queue" If it was you and your family what would you do?

“Australia is a nation settled by refugees”

This is not true... we can't let anyone and everyone through our borders. It just won't work.
