Help! first I'v been a tile mason for 22 years so I'm fairly confident of my construction skills.I have to paint my inlaws house which is60? yrs old and has those giant cedar? shingles my own house and a rental which have hardiplanking on the front and t-111 on the sides,Qstn how important is back rolling these materials after spraying for a good bond and how do I keep the overspray down? anybodys suggestions would be welcome!!
That's one of the funniest comments I read this week. A dedicated homeowner can absolutely do a superb job on their own. They just need to follow the instructions on the label of the paint can and take their time.
Hello rodnisimo, seems to be like you are a painter, you may think, giving tips to people, you loose money, its not, dumbass, just shut ur mouth and sit in a corner, do not switch on your computer and we didn't invite u here either.
Now, now... There's no need to be rude. The Court of Public Opinion - all those who read the comments - can easily make their own judgement about rodnisimo's comment. Believe me, a vast majority of people who read what he said are shaking their heads as they walk into the garage to grab their paint brushes.
its nice to know people still paint their houses. say no to vinal! ive ben in busness 4 11 years and its getting harder and harder .. keep painting lololo.....
Thanks for your comment. I went to your channel and there is nothing there. Sigh! Not one video that tells all of us that you know what you are talking about. Why not spend your time doing videos where you show us what you know instead of talking about it?
How many wipes of your wet rag does it take before you have to climb down from the scaffold to rinse it out, genius? AsktheBuilder makes great videos that are a big help to many of us. What have you done for us lately?
Absolutely yes. Get a caulk that has *some* silicone in it - an acrylic/silicone blend. The label will say it is "Paintable". Do NOT use 100% silicone.
Tim,
Thanks for the video! One quick question: would you suggest caulking the horizontal joints between the siding planks?
echtconservative 1 year ago
@echtconservative No!! Do NOT caulk the underside horizontal cracks on lap siding. This is a place for water vapor and even liquid water to escape.

Last house I painted you could see the caulk marks on the cedar in a few spots. Is it possibly from not giving the caulk enough dry time?

good video but is caulk not to be used in wetspaces or exterior use maybe diffrent in uk
lainey500 3 years ago
Maybe a UK painter will comment.. We use caulk here in the USA.
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
we use it too just inside only
lainey500 3 years ago
Fascinating. Why not outdoors to seal cracks? I know you have lots of wet weather, but what about when its dry?
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
exterior fillers (weather properties) and good old putty
lainey500 3 years ago
We ABSOLUTELY ALWAYS use caulk n exteriors in cracks. its the true pro way to do it here. what do you guys in the uk use for cracks and penetrations?

What kind of paint do you use to paint those wooden houses in the US? Oil or water based?
zama202bc 3 years ago
Water-based paints are the norm. Some may use oil, but it is a very small percentage.
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
Very good. But for sure use the right prducts.

Will paint adhere to the caulk?
