@E7uber9000 If you used wubi then it doesn't matter, it creates a virtual partition anyway. If you installed it normally over your windows though and you cant boot windows then you've really messed up.
@monoteddeh Not necessarily, I believe that it creates a virtual partition if you install it on any existing partition, you will have to check the wubi site for more detail. I just use a partition for peace of mind that it will not install over vista or damage any existing files on that partition if I happen to delete the wubi installation from the vista program remover.
another problem-- I successfully partitioned the hard drive, but when i right click on the unallocated space, no such 'format' option appears in the drop-down menu.
@monoteddeh This should not be a problem. If it is recognized as just 'free space' then it could possibly still work. Wubi creates a virtual partition if you install it with Vista anyway.
hey, nice vid-- but is it neccessary to do all this? a dude on a forum said he just put an ubuntu cd in and the installer allowed him to partition the hard drive from there, and he didnt need wubi or anything like that. Is this possible, or should i follow your steps?
@monoteddeh This is possible, but you cannot uninstall ubuntu in vista this way. Also, you have to either burn the ubuntu live cd using special ISO software, or order a free one from canonical which could take weeks to arrive. Another down side to CD installation is that it uses GRUB, a different loader that lets you choose which OS to boot. Sometimes vista has problems booting - a problem that has effected many including myself. I recommend following my steps, as its safer and much easier!
Good video.. I have a question for you, if you could help me? I have 2x HDD on my lap top. 1x HDD was windows vista, 2x HDD was Ubuntu. I wanted to delete Ubuntu coz I wasnt to give away to some one, so I perfomed complete deletion of both HDD & run recovery disk & reinstal OS. Everything is OK now, but I cannot access 2x HDD & part of GRUB is still there when I boot laptop. Can you pease tell me what to do, to activate 2x HDD & to get rid of Ubuntu completly?
I can see your problem, does the HDD still appear in your disk management?
If not then it could just be a dummy, sometimes when you wipe them it leaves traces of the boot loader. There is probably next to nothing ubuntu related on the HDD.
Try going to 'msconfig' (just search it in vista's start menu) it will open up system configuration. Click the 'boot' tab and you will see both OS' there. You can select it and delete it, set vista as default.
hi i installed ubuntu before i made a new partition... what do i do?

Do you need to partition the hard drive to install Ubuntu with Wubi? The wubi page says this is unneccessary.

Go to your control panel and click on Administrative Tools
From there, go to Computer Management
Click on Storage, then Disk Management. You can partition the drive exactly as I showed from there :)
