Awesome! The first time I heard it I was 7, but until then I didn't know that it was recorded years earlier and the performers wereThe Clash. I was so innocent then... =)
@blashada Chill mate! This is one of many remixes, from one of the GREATEST bands ever!!! Enjoy it for what it is and if you want more, well get out your copy of Combat Rock!!!
Is it just me or is most of the words missings its like "ok were going to sing half the lines oh what the hell lets just get the audience to sing for us they will never know the difference"
@Blashada this is an instrumentally-inclined reworking of the track which the guys were reknowned for producing in the latter part of their career, particularly when Don Letts entered the scene. it probably was a club favorite in the day.
Believe it or not, this version of Rock the Casbah was played periodically on album rock radio back in 1982. Back then, FM album rock stations would play import versions of songs and this was one of them. The import versions were usually mixed longer and different. Sometimes the promo copies were different also.
The Shariff............................................Rock the Casbah, ROCK!!
Total bollocks. "Hey, let's take a song from one of the greatest punk bands ever and throw in a ton of Garageband loops to rip every last drop of passion and difference out of the song" Rant over but Jesus Christ..

If I was given the choice between only being able to listen to the radio or this being the last song I ever hear, you know which one I would choose. I refuse to accept Rnb as a 'style' of music. It has no style its wank. VINYL IS KING!
This is a great remix. There is a way of making an unofficial instrumental use parts from thr studio version and this. Im gonna do it sometime. This is REAL music. Real Entertaining Awsome Lasting
Recorded this exact version on cassette off the radio in 1982 or 1983 in Philly off of either WMMR, WYSP, or at the time WXTU when it played new stuff and before it formatted to country music. Really cool stuff.
The Magnificent Seven followed right afterward as a double shot. Still have the cassette, it's beat up but still plays...
@splitenzfreak1980 Me too... I play bass (or at least try to) and just the mastery displayed in the bassline blows me away. Doesn't hurt that the song is incredibly funky. The Clash in their hey day were really something special.
@future62 Making an instrumental mix of "Casbah" was a stroke of genius...I've always loved the music more than the lyrics (though the chorus can't be beat). Paul's bass is great...very melodic.
the problem is not with the age,, good songs last forever,,, the problem is MTV,, kept showing trash cheep music for over 20yrs,,,.
2 generation grew up knowing NOTHING about music but what MTV enforced on them....
the 1st song MTV aired was ""Video Kill the Radio Star"" AND that was exactly what they did,,, they killed good music & enforced the new genrations to listen to cheep music,,,
many of the MTV stars wouldnt have made a penny if there was no MTV.
@fantasyexctasy MTV's '120 Minutes' occasionally had some good stuff on it, but for the most part MTV has always played a lot of trash and is definitely the most visible offender. The internet has been great, but I think the best source of finding good music will always be live shows. Plus it helps get the bands paid so they can keep making music.
@yeepster - Wrong, if it wasn't for MTV showcasing these fabulous groups from around the Globe, the world would have missed out on brilliant '80's music from "MJ" to "Tears for Fears"!
@yeepster agree... however, when I was a kid i remember i absolutely LOVED this video. Well the video for Rock the Casbah... So MTV was a good thing for a short span, it just imploded at some point.
This was on the flip side of the UK release 12". Far superior to the original (that is still a classic) imho, just because of the mad bassline and the infectious hook and shortened lyrics. A perfect disco anthem and one that will fit well into any slow funky house set.
This was on the flipside of the (I think UK) release in 1980 something Rock the Casbah, I have it, just not here." Wikepedia (standard of all that is correct) says "Long Time Jerk" is the flip. maybe US. Not on mine. It could be the other way around.though.
This is Radio Clash" had a quite similar sound, and the 12" had sick remixes. (on US label, Epic I think ) Certainly a keeper.
haha in fact reading the message again I really dunno why the hell I wrote that! Everybody knows it's in that album! I suppose I was a little dazed when I wrote it! :P

@yeepster And you think the garbage they're playing on Kiss FM and Kroq is any better? The blame goes around to alot of people, not just MTV.
Thank god for the internet, that's how I've been discovering music for the last 12 years. Podcasting and MP3 are saving music if you ask me.
