Im getting married next year, and I dont think that A song played at your wedding can determine if you get divorced or not... So i think that all the people that are saying " get prepared for divorced if you play this song" are divorced, or unhappy, or even jealous that theres a couple out there happier than you.

Seeing him perform this live, there's just so much pain, almost agony, even years after the divorce it's about. If you've ever been there, this captures so well an experience I can't explain in any other words. I hated the sentiment "sometimes love's not enough" when I was younger because I thought it was weakness.

@kpensyl how and why he wrote it might be about divorce, but just because a song was written and has that meaning to someone does not mean it has to have the same meaning to everyone else. people can listen and feel whatever they want when they hear a song. thats why music is great. theres nothing in the song that actually singles out divorce. its still a wonderful song.

@PoohBearLoving Nope, you've pretty much got it. "To be with you, just to be with you" is essentially saying that he's marrying her just to get in bed with her. "Even at my best I wanna let go" He doesn't really want to be married to her. "And i wanna be somebody else now" He knows he made a mistake marrying her. Matt Nathanson himself has declared that this is an anti-wedding song, so people wanting to use it at their wedding is just odd since it's pretty obvious what is being said.

@AniqaOx Looking at the lyrics right before that line, the best explanation would be that while he doesn't really want to be with her forever, he also doesn't want her to be happy with anybody else. But that is just a guess, but I do know that this is not a happy wedding song.
