  • Road House seems to pair Richard Widmark with his male opposite, Cornel Wilde, the way Kiss of Death paired him with Victor Mature.

  • really, these are great renditions of two great torch type songs and from IDA

  • I first saw this movie in 1956 on Million Dollar Theater while spending the night with my 89 year old grandfather--he had a metal Firestone TV with rabbit ears. The final chase through the woods scared me to death, but it was fun and I always wanted to see it again. It was almost 30 years before it was shown on TV again.

  • @VictrolaJazz Funny how we remember those obscure -everyday moments. I have fond memories of my Grandfather watching Eldorado with the Duke. It still gives me a warm feeling watching it, but I still miss the carefree days of youth.

  • @acfinney Yes, those memories are priceless! I think the movie is out on DVD now, too.

  • Damn she's hot. Can't keep my eyes off her.

  • Ya no se hacen películas así *****

  • Check out Ida in her impromptu scarf bathing suit in this film. What a knockout!

  • Ida Lupino, "The POOR MAN'S JOAN CRAWFORD"

  • Actually she referred to herself as the poor man's Bette Davis...not Joan Crawford...however...poppycock! Ida was every bit as forceful and hypnotic when given the chance, aside from that a hotter babe than either B.D. or J.C.

  • I love this movie. Ida and Richard Widmark are great.

  • I have noticed that there are two classic actresses who are extremely hot and passionate in love scenes. One was Ann Sheridan, the other was Ida.Notice how she just about melts Humphrey Bogart in "High Sierra," and practically anihilates Robert Ryan at the end of "On Dangerous Ground." Wonder how many retakes she asked for... and how many the guys asked for, as they all seemed to having a perfectly wonderful time. :-)

  • Check out THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT ... George Raft, Bogart, Sheridan & Lupino ... you'll love it. Ida (The Poor Man's Joan Crawford) and The Ummph Girl!

  • OHMYGOD, I saw it, and was in heaven. Lupino was a great friend of Ann Sheridan off the screen, and also of another hottie, Joan Fontaine. Lupino really burned up the screen in this gem. Check out the end of "On Dangerous Ground," where the tiny Ida nearly collars the huge Robert Ryan. Talk about heat...

Nicely said. And don't forget that Ida Lupino was a serious director, too.

She and Widmark needed more scenes together in this film, even if the ending was the same.

  • @thedogs2

P.S. Ann Sheridan was wonderful. But I've sometimes wondered if the movie could have lasted more than 20 minutes if Barbara Stanwyck had been pitched against Richard Widmark.

    Short subject, indeed.

  • A show stopper.

  • Superb !

gonna pick up this movie unknow to me...

    Thanks for sharing !

  • this looks like a really good movie..a great classic film noir...have you got anymore of it?

  • she looks tiny

  • she was a little thing.

  • Love this movie. Thanks for the great post.

  • The only thing I don't like about his movie is her singing. Yikes! Thanks for post.

  • There's an old comment of mine below a couple, but this was a good movie. Richard Widmark was so evil, but convincingly so. Thanks.

  • Great classic clip - I always liked his movies - may he R.I.P. passed at 93 Info LATimes

  • You gotta love Ida. She is so tough, in a little package. Richard Widmark's laugh is so hilarious. So goofy, but a good actor, yeah! Thanks.

  • ...and Cornel Wilde drop dead gorgeously handsome. Saw a "new" fellow recently on broadway that reminded me of him. His name is Dominic Cooper. Has the same darkly handsome features. And yes, Ida was something else, and men found her quite appealing. ~ Cata

  • Yes, Cornel was very handsome indeed, his character was noble in this movie. Celeste Holm seemed to be stereotyped into several of these poor left out girl-can't get a man types. She was good in her own right as well.

  • love it!

would you be able to get her singing "again" by lionel newman and dorcas cochran?

anyway, thank you for sharing all this good stuff.

    ;-)

  • Thanks Denver for letting me know the name of this song. Although I am a baby boomer and flower child, I am now obsessed with songs from the 40's and 50's sans rock era. Maybe because the words are so compelling and deep. And as you know, music has died via rap. Ahhh, but to have lived in the 40's. They don't make men (or ladies) with such passion anymore. ~ Catalina

  • fabulous Ida!!

my favourite version of this song...

    lovely piano playing too..

  • Ida Lupino is perfect. She's so sad. Its true, "She does more without a voice than anybody I've ever heard!" I've had her version of One For My Baby running through my head since I first saw this film. Thanks for posting.
