Thanks for this! I'm making an archery station in the server i go on and basically if you do not hit the block in the middle you will not survive (around the block in the middle are paintings. The paintings will drop down to pressure plates with activate the piston over your head. The piston is blocking lava and once the piston is gone you die. I do however give people the items they need so it does not count as griefing. XD

I tried using an arrow/painting pressure plate in my Fear in a Handful of Dust map. When I tested it locally, the painting always fell where I wanted it. When I put the map out there, it fell everywhere ELSE, including getting stuck halfway down the wall in between blocks - NO IDEA how! :) LOL

Another idea, have many suspicious lava squares, shoot into the correct one, get inside a door. Get the wrong one, and the room is flooded with water.

I have a better, more convenient method. Simply put a burning netherrack directly under the block with the pressure plate, and arrows will be able to press that plate.

You could use it as a key by putting a dispenser facing the painting with a button on it. If you press the button (turning the knob of the door, in a sense) nothing happens. But if you put an arrow in the dispenser, then when you press the button the door opens.
