Both are good airplanes but the obvious winner is the Triple 7. Don't get me wrong, the A340 is my favorite Airbus (and perhaps the only one I REALLY like). But the 777 is more efficient longer range, and a better option. Boeing did a great job on this plane, and I think it really is a milestone. Airbus thought that the ETOPs restrictions would assure that the A340 would win...but no. Much as I like the A340, the 777 is the winner - it even pushed the 340 out of production...
I would go with the Boeing 777! Especially the LR version! Its like the A340 500 series, except the difference the two A/C is that the A340 has 4 engines and the 777 has two engines and yet can go same range like the A340 500 series!
@DeltaEagle7700 naa they are both great airplanes! personally i love the -300ER but i think boeing should rake the wings of the -200LR to make its range ever bigger! thanks for the comment
I last went in a Emirates Boeing 777-300ER that was really awesome and went in a SriLankan Airlines Airbus A340-300 (not lived up to my expectations for a long-haul aircraft)
@airlines747 ooh yes, the 777-300ER is my favourite its just the sound of the engines at takeoff (especially when you hear them from outside). The 777 (if you look at the stats) has a larger cabin width as well as larger windows than the a340 (i think thats correct about the windows because I know they are large)
i do believe that Airbus is planning an improved a340-600 to match the -300ER off the top of my head I can't quite remember whats different
@BringEllisTheHoriZon yes a top speed, but the speeds here are of cruising, you will have to take up the issue of the MTOW with Airbus as it states on their website: '811.3X1000lbs' so sorry about that
@BringEllisTheHoriZon ahh i see, well its obviosuly not as obvious as i thought it would be with the speed as i thought that every1 would automatically know that it is cruising as if you went full speed the range would decrease dramatically (and also i would have no idea how to calculate the range if the A340 was flying at its full speed)
Personally I prefer the 777 (Or as I like to say, the seven double seven... Don't ask) because of the fact that they got the longest range plane in the world (777-200LR) and the largest twin jet aircraft in the world (777-300) through just two variations! But I have to say, my favourite plane in this category would have to be the Boeing 767 because of it's history and the way it looks.
@maxsuperdudeisawesom Yeah i do love the -300ER the best, on takeoff (from the outside) the engines sound amazing! but yes the -200LR is also great with that range... maybe there could be a -300LR that would be great! yes the 767 is also a brilliant aircraft I like the -400 the best due to the raked wings
The Airbus a340-300 Turkish Airlines was the very first airplane I have been in

great video so really you were just comparing the 777-300ER to the A340-600
anyway i have to say I prefer the 777-200ER and the A340-500
thomsonfly645k 6 months ago
@thomsonfly645k Yes, only because I have the A340-600 though. If I had a A340-500 I would compare it to the 777-200ER.

sorry but the 'facts' here are false, the ALL the a340s have a top speed of 563MPH Mach 0.86
and the a340-600 is 840,000lb MTOW
lol

@ConcordeCentral you should have put cruising speed then...
and i looked on wikipedia, the weight i put was the weight from the gate not weight on rotation too lol
