  • At least 170,000 of these views are mine

  • "Hear how heavy that intro is?...that's from back when they only had 7 strings." "ONLY?"

  • THIS ISN'T DJENT AT ALL.

    Progressive death-thrash metal FTW!

  • Fuck off with the djent shit. God damn. This is why I rarely watch Meshuggah videos, have to see these comments about Periphery and Structures and Fuckwhathipstercore.

  • @MiddleGrounder Better idea. How about you just not scroll down? Then I won't have to see your equal annoying comment.

  • @MiddleGrounder Thank you.

  • @MiddleGrounder Lol I totally understand, just another idiotic sub-classification.

  • I just now understood the meaning of 'djent metal'!!! Hurraaaay for periphery and meshuggah and music in general !!! :D

  • This is an incredible piece of music, savage, disturbing, intelligent, sophisticated all at the same time! Using some really advanced polyrhythms and harmony too! The guitarist definately listens to Allan Holdsworth (jazz legend)!

  • 2:55... One of the greatest head-bang/head-bob riffs ever.

  • THE ORIGINAL MATH METAL BAND. "NONE," AND "DESTROY ERASE IMPROVE," DEFINE THIS GENRE.

0:00 IS THE DEFINITION OF DJENT.

  • @DiscoRByrno lol sorry man. Seplutura is dead. Djent is taking over and will always be the best. I win. No contest. =)

  • @MrAmbidex1 @Sepultura96 @DiscoRByrno Haha you're all right in a way. Sepultura may be old but they are legends, atleast classics. Periphery and meshuggah are awesome, I think we all agree with that. And I also thing we all agree with that djent is a fucking annoying thing now. It was okay in the beginning, after more than a year now it PISSES ME OFF. But it isn't Mishas fault, he is himself annoyed about the thing that the FANS are creating. He is only using the word as an onomatopoeia.

  • @DiscoRByrno im not hating the bands music..just their push on the word djent!!

  • idk but i cant help and feel that calling them and there unique blend of creative riffs djent is fucking lame! there an experimental band and labeling em to a category just seems something they themselves would go against and i understand it was them that coined the term but didnt intend on creating a new label of genre, just describing there sound..am i the only one?

  • @Sepultura96 yes u are the only one so GTFO

  • @MrAmbidex1 yea i bet your a periphery fan with misha's poster hanging on your wall with a shrine and rub one out every night to it!

  • @MrAmbidex1 not really...but I am a fan, and sepultura is plain garbage.

  • @MrAmbidex1 you wanna get off the ambien dude, you obviously no NOTHING about heavy music..

  • @SilentDarkness2332 You act like you know me...lol Stop whining.

  • @MrAmbidex1 You act like people on the internet care about your opinions...lol

  • @S0m3kind0fm0nst3R nah, that's just what you perceive. Stop whining

  • @MrAmbidex1 I perceive that i was making a joke, and someone couldn't stop whining long enough to get it.

  • Drums on this song are just fucking mental O.o

  • had to sign in to like video, missed 13 seconds. * slits wrists

  • First song by them that I like, the other ones seemed to be too repetitive, just a bunch of low notes being repeated over and over, but this has enough melody in it and progression for me. Or maybe I'm just getting used to them? lol

  • groove metal done right. That's Meshuggah

  • My favourite part is 0:12

  • The four head-banging bad-ass bearded band members and the bald psychopathic frontman. I fucking love it.

  • 9 people quit listening to metal and quit their bands

  • Hay all of you suck my dick

  • welcome to quake III arena

  • these guys, and i'm referring to their lyrics, are like the death metal version of Rush

  • i love meshuggah but this sounds like akward metal funk, obzen is the right direction for them!

  • they're catchy but talking about them being complex just looks silly next to stuff like gorguts

  • @oibara2 Thats because you know nothing about their music. You probably also lack knowledge of music theory.

  • @AnarchoAssassin if you think that meshuggah are complex compared to a band like gorguts, you're the one who doesn't know anything about music theory. you sound like one of those kids who hears one 'mathy' band and starts spouting off about 'polyrhythms'

  • @oibara2 meshuggah isnt bad tho...

  • @oibara2 What the fuck is "Gorguts"? Keep your shitty unoriginal bands to yourself. Meshuggah is the game changer, Gorguts is some shit I never heard about.

  • @dujl

Lmao, moron. That was an EXTREMELY retarded comment calling a band you don't even know about unoriginal.

For the record, Gorguts is more original than most metal bands, not one band that I know of is alike them.

  • @OpethToolMetallica Oh yeah, too bad their "influence" isn't that well known then, huh? Even in the metal world. By the way, your name contains "Metallica" - your argument is invalid.

  • @dujl

    LLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLLLLLL

So if you didn't influence other bands you are not original?!?......

And since you don't like my name, my argument is invalid? ROFLMAO. There is only one way by which you can rightfully refute my arguments, and that is by PROVING them wrong, not by referring to some random fact which is totally irrelevant.

What's even more funny is that Metallica was a major influence for Meshuggah. Learn your logic and music history before you comment.

  • @OpethToolMetallica Yeah, Metallica was an influence for young, immature Meshuggah... not what they're known for today. I'll bet you something that Meshuggah would tell you how shitty Metallica really is.

If you don't influence, that means you're irrelevant. If you choose to put Metallica in your name, that means you hold the band in too high of a regard, hence your argument is invalid.

I will examine the band, and tell you my opinion of them.

  • @dujl

Even more fail. Fact =/= opinion. You should now be able to figure out how wrong you are, or shut up.

"I'll bet you something that Meshuggah would tell you how shitty Metallica really IS."

Also, Hagstrom is there to tell you how shitty your opinion is: guitarmessenger com / interviews / marten-hagstrom-interview-meshuggah /

  • @OpethToolMetallica Fucking idiot. Your own very pov is based on your shitty opinion (that Gorguts is more technical), as I could point out to you, but didn't consider relevant to the discussion. If Gorguts isn't a shitty band then they would be more relevant to the genre.

Hagström may think something about something, but that doesn't change general opinion. Also, that he respects them and listens to some of their old stuff still doesn't mean that they're not shitty in a different context.

  • @dujl whoever said gorguts is more techincal...the name "gorguts" generally sounds like a shitty death metal band with blast beats and double bass throughout the whole song lol

  • @xXxBuLLeTxXx1

As long as you don't judge band by its name, Gorguts are far from generic death metal.

  • @OpethToolMetallica i listened to one of their songs...it was blast beats and speed picking, being able to play fast is nice, yes, but i would much rather different time signatures and what not...you have TOOL in your name i would figure that you would have a different opinion on what is technical. just about every band today is either pop or death metal, listen to Death, they are the most original death metal band i have ever heard, RIP

  • @xXxBuLLeTxXx1

Actually Meshuggah has faster guitar parts than Gorguts. Blast beats are used at times, but what's the problem? If used well, that's fine. They don't overuse blast beats. watch?v=Lspl89ixSds&feature=related

I listen to Tool sometimes but the only member that's really technically gifted in that band is Danny Carey, sure the others are talented too, but Tool is more progressive than technical.

And last, if you checked my YT/LastFM page you'd know that I'm familiar with Death.

  • @OpethToolMetallica Metallica was very influential, nirvana just was a new genre that didnt last, like glam, my respect for metallica isn't that great because they truly let the fame go to their heads...Lars doesn't seem to practice his drumming much, i will say that Hetfield voice is good though, not to sound like a fanboy, but Dave Mustaine did give metallica a lot of ideas

  • @xXxBuLLeTxXx1

After the AJFA tour they wanted the music to be less complex and of a technical exercise, they wanted to slow down, to experiment with more accessible rock. Quality-wise it was inferior to what came before, but making more accessible music isn't necessarily bad.

It happens a lot, like Megadeth following Metallica in going mainstream, they were just as mainstream.

Mustaine wrote a part of KEA, like the backbone of TFH and some riffs, but the albums after that were better anyway.

  • @xXxBuLLeTxXx1

Nirvana wasn't new, grunge is just an umbrella term for 'bands from seattle that use a general seventies hard rock sound with some punk sensibilities from the general DC area'. Basically what you get when 80's era DC punks start messing around with the seventies hard rock and the Slow of the Melvins.

  • @Sidar654231 actually it was hardcore punk, and good old rock n roll.

  • @hamberg42

Yeah that's what I said. Let's not argue, we wouldn't be able to convince each other having different sources and all. Let's just agree.

  • @Sidar654231 I'm a musician.

  • @hamberg42

That's great man, me too, I say GO for it, fly the flag of us crazy souls making noise and partaking in strange backdoor activities for no other reason than wanton decrepit hedonist amusement and a face full of sweat. And maybe, just maybe, American Dream, bla bla, oh, I realize, this sentence is just as relevant and entirely sensible as your last! So what's the score here? What's next? ughn .. I MUST GET TO MY BACKSTAGE AREA, WHERE ARE THOSE GODDAMN MORNING GLORY SEEDS I ORDERED!!

  • @Sidar654231 Beats me. I live in an area full of flaky musicians. Am sitting on a record deal with no band... for a couple years now..........

  • @hamberg42

Hold on man. I'm sure karma, God or maybe acid, all those lights at the end of human experiential tunnels, will send something your way soon enough. Let me tell you one thing though: reality is actually quite forgiving. Humans get money, the know-how, the people, the right time. They just don't pull at it hard enough or don't look right under their nose. So what this comes down to is; or up to? I don't know, but what comes up now is: It's not about resources. It's resourcefulness.

  • @dujl

Arguments based on thin air. I didn't say anywhere Gorguts is more technical... I didn't even compare the two.

Also, by your logic: being good = being relevant = being influential. Hmm, names come up like Nirvana. Wait, maybe something went wrong there? Another example, Coroner, great band, but really influential? Not at all, and there are many more examples.

Being influential is a plus, but overall it doesn't say much about the quality of a band at all.

  • @OpethToolMetallica It seems we're not arguing anything, then, because the only thing I was invested in was disproving that Gorguts is somehow more technical than Meshuggah, whatever that means. Nirvana is definitely influential, so I don't see your point in that regard.

Mårten said he still plays the old Metallica, because obviously he knows they went from pretty good to bad. Metallica sucks in regards to drumming, evolution, faithfulness, and a whole lot of other things. He was being nice.

  • @dujl

That's different from what you said initially, you said they were a shitty unoriginal band.

Nirvana is very influential, but they only have one interesting song, overall they really lacked inpiration or musicality, they are mediocre if you ask me.

Also, Metallica sucks with regard to evolution? LOL?! They were at the forefront of thrash, what they did was always followed by others a year or two later. David Ellefson acknowledged this, and more people do, like in Get Thrashed.

  • @dujl

Also, he wasn't being nice, there was no point in stating something different than has own opinion, its not like he was trying to get something done. It's stupid and naive to read your own opinion in his', take it as it is.

Metallica did what they wanted, that's probably better than just playing the stuff your current audience wants you to, you're the artist, it's not some democratic process. This may seem paradoxical because they went more mainstream, but it still applies nonetheless.

  • @OpethToolMetallica Except Metallica lost their fire and purpose once Cliff died and they started sucking. Everyone knows this, so don't deny it. Metallica went from a pretty cool origins thrash metal band to pure mainstream shit. Don't try telling me their new stuff is inspired.

  • @dujl death magnetic isn't inspired, you're correct -- they returned to roots on DM they'd probably forgotten over time. that doesn't mean it's not good. it's on the other end of the spectrum from meshuggah: simple, harsh and right to the point. "suicide and redemption" is now one of my all-time favorites.

  • @mightyteegar I can do the solo in Suicide & Redemption, its nice.. but Meshuggah pretty much rapes them in the ass, when its comes to technicality, i guess Metallica are not trying, you know Meshuggah see's music as science, for Metallica its a vent of emotion. Wich makes them good at their points..

  • @BannanaOfDoom fair enough, but remember that technicality is only a means to a (very specific) end. SRV was never technical in a scientific sense, but not many blues musicians or fans before or since would accuse him of making bad music. anyway, music isn't science at its core; it's art, ultimately, and meshuggah's lucky -- they blend the two and create something greater.

don't get me wrong, metallica has a lot of catching up to do. still, DM was a good (re)start.

  • @dujl I fucking agree.. but jesus christ your everywhere, calm down a bit, relax, enjoy the music, not scratchneck's flaccid e-peen.. :)

  • @dujl Not only that DM isn't an inspired record at all but many riffs and rhythms, containing in the listed tracks are almost direct ripoffs from their first albums. You are correct anyhow

  • @dujl

Also, just admit it that you failed there. "I'll bet ... that Meshuggah ... how shitty Metallica really IS." The interview I linked was recent: "I still have tremendous respect for them [Metallica]" Shitty in what different context? If you RESPECT a band you can't think they're shitty at the same time regardless of context, if you think otherwise you fail to grasp the concept 'respect'....

Btw, I'm not even a fan of Gorguts, it's just stupid how easily you judge bands.

  • What's there in desperation? What's real?

    Flawless confusion.

  • @scratchneck Too obvious, but i'm sure someone will take your bait and give you the overwhelmingly ignorant reply you want. :)

  • @scratchneck man wtf r u talking about? if you dont like this divine music just don´t be an arrogant believing you and your music are better

  • @scratchneck hey douchebag.......music is like candy, you ALWAYS throw away the (w)rapper. fuck right off and go listen to more lil wayne you MTV worshipping cocktard

  • @scratchneck it's lost causes, not lost cases smart ass.

  • Forever turning to a lifetime

  • they'r
