WIll my NV+ 4000 support 1GB? According to the Crucial site it is only compatible up to 256MB, don't want to sink $50 in to something that won't work...but would love to upgrade too
@McNizzle123 Well, in the video we are using an NV+; lots of other people have done this. Netgear, of course, does not really support the idea of upgrading memory.
Thanks for the Great & easy to follow Video. To everyone that don't know what memory to buy, well here is the exact memory that I ordered & installed ( part CT12864X40B, description is “CT12864X40B 1GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC3200 memory module”). All you have to do is search for CT12864X40B on Amazon where I found mine or use Google. On Amazon it only cost me $42.83 & shipping $3.99 for next day air using my Amazon prime account CT12864X40B Total $46.82 & it worked perfectly. Good Luck All!
@ghostaliaz That might work just fine - BUT - at the time I got the Crucial part # CT12864X335 from a Netgear approved list. Therefore... I would stick with that even if it cost a couple dollars more. Hopefully you will be fine anyway, but I am always better off recommending something that the vendor's tech support suggests!
I just brought a Transcend 1GB DDR 333 Sodimm Cl2.5 PC2700 and then put it in and it didn't work, i did notice the current ram in is DDR 400 and the only DDR 400 i can find is PC3200 CL3. Will this work if i got a 1GB of this? Also on the Readynas site it says to use DDR333 pc-2700, i did and it didn't work. Any answers? Cheers
@vs7777yt It's in the description to the video - CT12864X335 - follow the link provided in the beginning of the video's description, it will take you to Crucial's site. Simply search for CT12864X335
hi there, so how turned it out? did you get a performance boost? what are your read-/write-speeds? i am using the nv+ connected directly to a mac, but only get an avg. of 10mb/s. that's a lame duck, isn't it? now considering to upgrade as well.
Thanks very informative video though overly basic. I would guess that anyone working with one of these you could tell, "take off the back and top cover and swap the ram same as a notebook" and cut 6 minutes off the vid.
Trying to find what memory I can use in my NVX Pioneer... it has the 1gb stick in it now... how much max ram can the NVX support and what kind should I get? thx
Click the link in the description for this video, then search at Crucial for the part number listed at the bottom of the video description for full details.

Is it possible to setup a RAID 1 with 2 HDDs and then at a later date setup a second RAID 1 with the remaining two slots?
wonderpookie 9 months ago
@wonderpookie My understanding is that you have to use FlexRAID to do that. The ReadyNAS forum would be the place to double check that.
FreeCompConsultant 9 months ago
@FreeCompConsultant Brilliant - thanks for the speedy reply!
wonderpookie 9 months ago
@wonderpookie No. That's not possible, because i try before.
Don't forget back-up your files before do something.

@montygod All I can tell you is that the memory I recommend on my site (follow the link in the description to the video) works.

@FreeCompConsultant
I am trying to find the memory recommended, but I only see Crucial - is there the full description of the actual memory stick I need to buy?
Thanks

@montygod look on my blog:

Can you put a 2Gb stick in?
montygod 11 months ago
@montygod I don't think so; there really would be no value - there just would be no performance gain. Even the newest units only come with 1GB.

Thanks for your video! I used it to help me install a stick of 1GB RAM from Patriot (PSD1G33316S). :)

@mstoll I found the unit to be more responsive, but never did any official speed tests

Yes, but on some units I set the hard drives to go to sleep; I have another video on that.

i have to 256 mb of ram i hate this computer but i not have money to upgrade
roby9696 2 years ago
Hey cool ... what kind of memory did you use?
I just upgraded my Imac, which uses what looks
to be a similar form factor for the memory, it is
like sodimm ddr2.
Where did you find the specs for the memory?
I have 2 readynas boxes ... one has 1GB, and
the other 256MB ... the lower one is really slow,
but I just use it as a backup for the master machine.

Nice to know it's that easy. Thanks!

If you buy memory, please go to my blog and buy through the Crucial ad on the upper left.
thanks,
Roger.
