  • a little blury for my taste

  • Nothing compares to the Sony Slt-a55 for video. And my top choice is RED for video.

  • Better than my 550D

  • @TheMeisterManuel the video modes in both are identical though? maybe u need better settings?

  • take a look at vimeo, there is a music video from boby valentino produced with 7d , like appleguy said this movie is shit, i have the 7d and the 7d is amazing!

  • Perfect :)

    I want 60D :)

  • The 5D image is a little bit sharper (measured value, hard to see with the human eye) and has of course better low light abilities. But in general both cameras (550D included) have the same video quality.

If you have a bigger budget I recommend the 5D MK2, just because it`s more stable and overall a better camera. But you won`t get a better image quality.

The funny thing is the 550 D (T2i) has the same image quality like the 7D. So you can save the extra money and get some kick ass lenses!

  • I´m about to purchase the 5d Mark II or the 7d. What i´m most concerned is the video, since i´ll be using it mostly for video shooting. Horror and documentary will be the subjects i´ll be working on...so recommend me wich one it´s better for film and how much better. Since the price difference between them is of 800$. thanks!

  • one important question, really: is the canon eos 7d the best video-shooting dslr camera these days or is there another one coming this year? I would highly appreciate a response, thanks a lot!

  • @PhilippeFreestyle

canon 5d mark II is better, it has been used to shoot some television shows and independent films even

  • This video did not give this camera its justice. There are far better sample videos that show that this camera has phenomenal video capture.

  • does the cannon eos reble xt shoot videos

  • the 550d is better

  • @WYBninja really, why is the 550d better. Im about to buy a 7d and its a big investment for me, dont want to get it wrong.

  • @trigga1uk looks better :)

  • @WYBninja the image looks better or the camera looks better. I couldnt care if the camera looked like a turd, if it shoots good video ill get it.

  • @trigga1uk i think the video looks better :)

  • @trigga1uk the 550d isn't better, its just cheaper at pretty much the same video quality :)

  • im thinking of starting a photography business.

  • how should i upload my 7d footage to youtube through adobe premier, which format?

  • @rubent100 MP4 with H.264 compression is the best to use. usually you can just upload the raw footage straight to youtube because these camera's shoot in youtube compatible formats, but since you've probably edited it MP4 H.264 should do the trick.

  • @appelstijl

Oh wow. Thanks. I know you were responding to another user, but thanks! I usually use a MOV format through Premier. But I'm gonna try the MP4 now.

  • @AndrewDeLong Glad to help :D

  • Try .mov at 10,000 kbps.

  • in these ression times is it a bad time to pump all of my money into setting up a photography business. i.e. 6-7000 euro 8-9000$

  • Risk a little, lose a little, or win a lot.

  • is it safe buying my 7d from hong kong. im in ireland. or would you people advise me to shop local even though its a few hundred more.

  • @zanderpollster buy it from canon europe online

  • the audio isnt actually too bad

  • Hey everyone,

My friend recently got his 7D fine tuned at the Canon Repair in Irvine, California. He said it came back tack sharper, sharper than he could ever get it using Microlens Adjustment.

I am using both the 7D and 5DmII at the moment. My 5DmII is still hands down the choice for portraits and landscapes but the 7D has been great for video and wildlife photography.

If you can, get both! If you want a Nikon, I love the D700, its a one-stop shop (no HD video though).

  • But how do you know if your camera needs to be fine tuned?

  • Let me go talk to my buddy, he might have posted some info on the 7D repair. If I can find some info he might have posted on DPReview I'll go ahead and post it here.

Generally DPReview is not as great as it use to be but he still goes on there from time to time.

I'll be back another day :). For now I suggest taking images at different ranges close and far. If its sharp enough... wouldn't worry.

I know the 7D has issues AF'ing an area that is one color. It has no way of telling distance.

  • Thanks! I use DPReview for researching, but don't really participating in the forum. Anyway, so far the pictures look great and pretty sharp so I'm not going to worry about it for now.

  • WOW!!! Wich program and setting did u use to do it? The sharpeness and the quality look very awesome!

I will have my 7D next week. ^^

    cheers!!!

  • times square!

  • Crispy image..

  • oh my god it looks super professional;; haha i bet it could make bluray movies XD

  • peter jackson's The Lovely Bones was shot with this!

  • what...?

  • No. Not at all. The lovely bones was shot on arricam and red one.

  • Amazing Hi resolution My eyes !!!

  • Where is the city video or Billabong Store?

    I hope you understand me

  • Time square N.Y

  • What is the HD export settings to quicktime for youtube. It keeps getting pixalated when I export. What is the correct data rate number? 2100 or higher? 1080x720?

  • 1280x720 dude.

  • thats 720p

  • Gillette I was just correcting a guy who said 1080 by 720. And actually 1280 x 720 is only 720p is it's for sure progressive and not interlaced, hence the p.

  • thats some awesome quality

  • great quality, but 5D have some magic documentary film vid touch as jellotime says.

  • do u people think this camrea is good enongh for film making?

  • Well, how does it look with your eyes?

  • maybe.. I think the 5D Mark II might be a little better for that. The videos I've seen taken with that camera look like documentary film videos.

  • @jellotime91 actually this one takes just as good videos [= its the lenses that makes the difference [=

  • @hitm4n04 absolutely

  • @hitm4n04 Its not good for taking action movie shots (fast paced). Though, if you can look at the quality of it, Who the hell needs a different camera?

  • @hitm4n04 o yes it has been used to film Black Swan as well as 127 hours

  • Of course you wouldnt compare the 7D to HF10, but yo would compare to xh-a1 and so on.

The lens factor is awesome, but depending on what youd shoot for video production, then the camera isnt always gonna be no1.

Its awesome for travelling and little bits, but its not nearly as smooth as solid quality hd video camera!

  • WOW AWESOME!! :D

  • When I got the 5D Mark II I ended up getting a Mono mic. And eventually I'll need a stereo mic as well. Both external mics serve a different purpose.

Warn you ahead of time each mic is between 150-200 bucks.

I went with Senheissen or however u spell it. Too lazy to check lol.

The 24p issue is not important. You can live without. 7D is awesome, I will most likely buy it. BUT keep in mind there's no firmware that'll ever make it Full Frame. Once you go full frame its hard going back to APS-C.

  • firmware make it FF? wtf are u talking about that;s it;s not up to the firmware but to the sensor the sensors is APS-C crop factor...

  • Synechris...you obviously did not read my comment/post correctly.

"...Keep in mind there's NO firmware that'll ever make it (7D) Full Frame"

Either you skimmed my comment or do not know a lot of english. You seem to think that I said there IS a firmware update to make it FF...there is not.

*sigh*... I own 1.6x and FF bodies I know the difference. I think you just wanted to correct someone desperately and feel smart.

  • @xxmortimerxx thats kinda sad man i just cam for the footage :L

  • Looks like 24p to me. I'll have to wait to see how well ISO performs before making my decision.

  • Amazing quality!!! I've seen the T1i and Mark II and this will be even better, they have limitations, BUT if your using a tripod, and have smooth movements it's great. The Video Quality ix 2x BETTER than any camcorder under 20,000!!!

  • I think so too but it obviously depends on how much you want to use it and how often.

I was in Vancouver (from Europe) some weeks ago and had to use both DSLR and camcorder. It was really annoying to always need to carry both and then having to switch... The Footage never gets a sharp as with a DSLR + you can use "any" lense you want (=>DOF)! I think these are the main advantages.

If you just want video you should go for a camcorder but if you want both, the d7 is perfect.

  • Are you comparing 1500$ of lens with 800$ of camcorder and lens?

Are you comparing 47mbs of compression rate vs 13 mbs of HF10?

Are you comparing full manual focus, manual zoom to the level and button of the HF10?

Can you use f1.2 of aperture on a HF10?

The DOF is good on a HF10 like on a Canon 7D with good lens? I don't think so...

880gr of glass against 400gr of camcorder and glass?

would you compare the size of the cmos?

  • Nice videos. But the sound is awful. The camera provides HD Video in high quality and that's the internal mic's capabilities?

  • 24P ?

  • genial!!!!

  • beautiful!

  • Hi, how long could you shoot HD movie before 7D's sensor is overheat?

  • yeah i have the same question

  • Before the sensor overheats?

    That doesn't make sence..

  • Thats fun:D I think filesize is limited to 4GB so it should be around 12 mins?- look dpreview

  • So... does this mean we can forget about buying Sony EX1's and Canon XL H1's? The footage coming from these SLR's is obviously very impressive.

  • oHHHHHHo

    WoW

    WoW

  • Could you please upload somewhere the directly out of the camera files so we can really check the quality?

  • does it have a mic input?

  • Yes

  • Yes :)

Salu2s

  • Why not upload something the 5D can't do, e.g 50fps?

Please shoot some then lets see, cheers :)

  • At full Hd the 7D only can record at 30, (27) and 24 fps.

  • HD 1080 for 7D is 24,25 fps

  • nice

  • Es mejor esta esta camara EOS 7D o es igual a la Canon EOS 5D Mark II en cuanto a video calidad? The Canon EOS 7D is better that 5D Mark II in Video Record quality?

  • Se supone que la calidad del video ha aumentado en la 7D, contando tambien con el control de parametros en video como la 5D. Pero el sensor de la 5D es de mayor calidad asi que supongo que estaran muy parejas.

  • Looks great, even on full screen.
