To answer your question, it could be possible that internet will, at a certain point in the future be the only way of telecommunications and TV broadcast, but it can also be charged more that is now. Internet is a relatively new thing, since TV and phones exist for over 50/100 years. Nowadays there are many free TV streaming sites, instant messaging applications, internet radios and other. It's all because internet is designed as a free way of sharing.
If we didn't live in a capitalistic society, no one would ever thing of making profit, but since most of us do, someone will think a way, when people abandon using other stuff than internet, to charge it. "now that everyone use only internet, I could make big money out of it." So this is my point. Think on it.
Forgot to say that what I meant that was going to be charged are programs. There may be no other ways of communication, so people will be forced to pay for it. they would have no other option.
There is NOTHING that any phone company can do better than skype.
I'm an avid skype user and i love it.
Money is sort of...not really...and issue with me, i'm just cheap, and i got rid of my house phone and cell phone a year and a half ago, and now im saving approx. 150 dollars a month. :P
Even now if i get the cheapest service i know of for both house phone and cell phone, thats still about 60 dollars for both....erm....no thanks....
Over here in the UK it's almost completely dominated by one provider: BT. They do pretty good packages so it greatly simplifies it in comparison to what the US have to decide between.
I hope it's going to wipe out television and phones. It's much more convienient and like you said, is not bound by unnecessary costs. One could argue the accessability, but I have a feeling that'll change soon enough.
Personally if it ain't broke don't fix it. I sometimes get offers to change my phone services and I pay 15 a month on my current and I'm fine with that.
My best is you probably won't hear from that AT&T rep again.
The internet has already, to a certain extent, wiped out the television. Which is a good thing, because nowadays everybody prefers the internet over the television, we want live coverage of our favorite shows over the internet, we want the Olympics live on the internet. The only two things I watch on TV are the Olympics and the Young and the Restless (I know, it's lame, but I grew up with this show)
They cant sue Skype... Skype is not providing what they are providing... Skype is providing internet services... ATT is providing land line services... Now if skype was providing land line services for that price or comparable internet connection for that price... then they might have an "non competitive price" suit on their hands...
Skype's awesome. Can't believe that people still subscribe to these overpriced providers?!
Here in Germany our biggest provider Deutsche Telekom (you may know it as T-Mobile in the states) offeres a so called "Triple Play" package which includes unlimited phone, super fast internet and IPTV for round about 50€/month - that's the only reason why I'm still with them. :-/
@AmgdxMain ok but what if your away from your pc/mac and the internet what then what if you need to call one of you parents or they need to call you and you whent out what then
@AmgdxMain Even then, basic Skype calling using really low bandwidth. I use it with a 512/512 connection and still can video call while queueing up one of your LP's.
