Please... I have lived in Galesburg all my life.. all the manufacturers left over 5 years ago, leaving this place an empty shell. Galesburg has no decent paying jobs, high crime, and over half of the city's population is low income.. The inviting streets, and "charming victorian houses" are only a small fraction compared to what this town is really like... It was a great video, but anyone who is from here, or still here.. knows that Galesburg is on it's last leg.

I grew up in Galesburg and wish it well. What it really needs is to promote itself as an opportunity because it can be. What it doesn't need is a crude attempt to present a collection of optomistic lies about being fast growing and looking forward to the future. It needs to start it's rebirth process with truth, not likes like this.

This is a great Video. Galesburg rocks!!! I am a RailFan & like galesburg. Everyone has a dirrerent opinion, but sometimes you have to be your DisneyLand, as I read on 6/8/00. There is good & bad every where, but it is nice to watch the Trains/ go to Lake Storey, & hang out with my Friends in Peck Park. Nice video. Btw maybe Gredagburg chooses to see the good, not the bad of Galesburg. Iam much happier when I am in Galesburg than in The Quad Cities or other bigger places.

It has so much more than most towns this size. Learn to appreciate what we have in our community. What have you done lately to counter the situations you refer to as the REAL Galesburg? I'm curious - what do you like about Galesburg? Focus on the positive and refrain from negative thoughts.
It sounds as if you are on the prosperous side of town. Take a stroll into the low-income housing. Talk with the people that have moved there to be nearer their family members in the prison. All communities have good and bad areas, however if people care enough about making their community a better place to live it must begin at the grassroots level. On the other hand, if all you can do is complain about the negative aspects of Galesburg - I challenge you to implement some solutions. Name three things you like most about Galesburg!
I volunteer and work with the young kids of disadvantages families after school, and take part in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. I also help by tutoring children that have trouble in the poor educational environment provided to them. The younger generations are the future, and the solution, to Galesburg. As for 3 things I like, that's tough. The old run-down buildings and warehouses are interesting, and make for good photos. The cabbies are sometimes sketchy but usually nice.
I commend you for your volunteerism and working with disadvantaged kids. I agree with you that our youth are the future and we must do all we can to keep them encouraged. It is also important to present positive messages to them especially about the community in which they live. I also agree with you regarding the "cabbies". Keep working to make a difference in our community as we work toward making Galesburg the best place it can be.

This is a great Video. Galesburg rocks!!! I am a RailFan & like galesburg. Everyone has a dirrerent opinion, but sometimes you have to be your DisneyLand, as I read on 6/8/00. I live in western Oregon and am AMAZED at the houses you can get in Galesburg for the same price as a small condo out here. That's messed up.
