@karanickolas So that we may give licence to further distance Modern Greece from the Ancient Greece? Let's focus on the point made in the video, not minute details that could easily turn against us. We need to connect the dots, not break them further apart.
take sweden, for example. no tourism industry. at least not a huge or a worth noticing tourism industry. last time i checked, sweden had one of the very best and effective educational systems in the world, and people were actually making something out of their lives. why is that ? because they have learned to think as a mass. not as a single human. they have realised that ONLY through unity can somebody prosper.

Whilst I can appreciate the sentiment of this video, the issue is so deep, so intrenched in cultural behaviour, a 'simple' branding exercise is just the tip of the iceberg. I too work in marketing and branding and know from personal experience, unless you can back-up the promise of the brand, you are delusional.
Greece needs a cultural enema. Talk of branding is fine, but start working on what you're going to back it up with.
I love Greece, but I'm frustrated at the Greek's lack of vision.
@khoolmann "Brandig" and everything else Mr. Economides said was a metaphor that implied everything that has ti be done. Even his silence was a metaphor for something. It was very obvious! You just have to get the meaning behind the words. This all was a strategy to what has to be done...a very obvious one. And do not forget that we always start counting from 0. So we Greeks have to start from there and go up to 10! The only thing keeping us behind: idiotic politicians whom have to go
@khoolmann lack of vision?? seriously?? you didn't get the point of this whole presentation then...it clearly states that if Greek people feel great they do great things!! and right now happiness is what they need not money...it's not an economic crisis its a CULTURAL one...and thanks for saying you love Greece:) but don't say so hursh stuff about Greece without being there, without KNOWING all the facts...i live in Greece so i live it everyday and what we have is not lack of vision...
What a brilliant inspiring video. Should be shown in all the schools and cafeneia of Greece. He should be part of the government. People like him will get us out of this crisis.
guys for sure it is a nice video. But branding is just the surface. Real education and positive work is what matters, and not some advertisement trying to convince you to do something. Lets try to make a better Greece with our actions not just with advertisement.
Btw we are not the rullers of Mediteranean. We are not a special DNA nation. We are JUST LIKE everybody else.
@zero1gr i think you have to re-watch the video i dont think you got anything he said.
we are no the rulers of the mediteranean we are not a special DNA world can live without us.....but we must FEEL like we are special, we are the rulers of the mediteranean. we must feel special in order to be special.
Branding is not the surface, in order to have a successful image, brand you need a solid base(iceberg). This solid base of unity is what you are going to build on.brand is not only advertising
@zero1gr according to whom?according to you? you know this presentation wasn't talking only about advertisments and brands it was talking about Greece's vision of life. It says at the beggining that it's NOT rebranding Greece it's rebranding GREEKS bcoz right now they have let down their selves, they have let down their dreams they have let down their country...it'a cultural crisis NOT an economic one. It's also a global phenomenon and Greece is unfortunetely the one being framed...
I very much agree with Economides, he is very much on the right approach. As a Hellene from Cyprus and living in the USA, I prefer to refer ourselves as Hellenes. This would add another 8 to 10 million more people with a great deal of success and begin changing the brand. Add to these 20 million the philhellenes and you have even more power to rebrand. Now we need this great leader ( maybe elect one, not the political parties appoint one) and we may begin.

The problem is that all the "imaginative, visionary, optimistic, DNA has been leaving Greece for the past 60 years. What were're left here are the coffee grounds of a Greek cup of coffee.
This is the MOST comprehensive presentation on branding I have ever seen. Is like re-branding made simple, is understandable and you make scene listening to it. Thank you to Me Economides!
In South Africa they say “You pay peanuts you get monkeys” and that reflects reality. In Greece reality is that we pay top money and get monkeys and that monkeys are chasing away Greece’s brilliant children. Peter Economides is only one of the thousands of brilliant children that are scattered and unfortunately not used by Hellas.
I think the most important thing that Peter realizes is that at the core of all of this is the national psyche and morale of the people. It is low right now, despite the bravado and seeming indifference to other country's opinions that some Greeks may still show. If they fix their image and boost morale, they will feel inspired. Inspiration will lead to ambition, ambition will lead to a desire for betterment and change. Greece became great because of fearless ambition. It's time again!
@greekmasterflex Morale is low because many people are long term unemployed, cant make rent or the bank is reposessing their house, cant afford food etc. Let's get real here. The problems are real and until the current corrupt political system dies, we're stuffed.
@soppan121 You're absolutely right about the reasons for their low morale, and without cleaning up corruption, their quality of life and morale won't change any time soon. But I think the way out of these very real problems will depend on making small strides in all aspects of Greek life. A public rebranding campaign will help them make these strides. In the end, the best way they can rebrand themselves, is to show that they can be a functional and responsible country.
@MegaHairycat do you have a better thinking? do you have anything else to produce and sell NOW? do you have a n y t h i n g to propose instead of critisize?
(2) Greece is all the goods and bads Greeks carry in them, in their language, in their culture. That is what makes them Greek, so annoyingly unorganized, so ridiculously self-oriented and self–destroying yet so damn creative and fun. Your leftist, internationalist, so called progressive, cretin ideology is what brought us here today. 30 years of such propaganda created an atheist, a-ethnic (άεθνους), amoral, defeatists (ηττοπαθείς), state employee wannabes. This clip is a wake up cry.
@MegaHairycat (1) Of course it is, you a-historical moron! Like it or not, we are the continuation of our prehistoric ancestors in the caves of Epirus, of democracy, philosophy and art creating Athenians, of fascist-Macedonians forcing Greek way of life through killing, of Byzantine Christian fanatics or of the modern disoriented Greeks who still managed to give Kazantzakis, Seferis, Elites, Theodorakis, Hadjidakis, Vangelis, Callas, plus many more, in less than a century

This speach is a wake up cry.
@MegaHairycat (3) Nikos Gatsos said that a ship with no port is a ship with no destination. Get it in your thick globalised head. It’s simple social-psychology. Man is a social animal, always part of a group he supports without necessarily hate the other ones. Take a look how Americans, Russians, English or Germans support their home, history or flags and prosper. The world is still a jungle. The big animal eats the small. I may don’t want to eat anybody but I don’t want to be eaten either!
@MegaHairycat (1) Of course it is, you a-historical moron! Like it or not, we are the continuation of our prehistoric ancestors in the caves of Epirus, of democracy, philosophy and art creating Athenians, of fascist-Macedonians forcing Greek way of life through killing, of Byzantine Christian fanatics or of the modern disoriented Greeks who still managed to give the world, Kazantzakis, Seferis, Elites, Theodorakis, Hadjidakis, Vangelis, Callas, plus many more, in only half a war torn century.
@atvprogreece 1. Modern Greece IS NOT a continuity of Ancient Greece. (Athens, Sparta, Macedonia what part and at what era, exactly?) It is a bastard child of a declining Roman Empire (Byzantium) and the Otoman Empire, or what was left of it.
As for your 2. and 3. I agree, but only under the above premise.
@EffLabels Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. Modern Greece, with all of its shortcomings, could not and IS NOT a "continuity" of Ancient Greece or, if you may, The Classical Greece the world has known and loved. We, modern day Greeks, may occupy the same space as they did, but we have very few in common with our ancestry. We are the direct descendants, political and cultural, of the Byzantine era. Not of Ancient Greece. And this is not just semantics. Logical enough?
@nexus01gr Modern day Italy have nothing in common with Rome, modern day English have nothing in common with the once great British Empire. America is not what is used to be. What's your point? All countries change, but genetically ofcourse we are connected to our ancestors in one way or another
@EffLabels My point is, that you can not pick and choose your past. History is linear and Classical Greece is way further back than Byzantium in our "cultural" genes. Witch means that people, or nations, are more influenced from their most recent past. As for the "genetic" argument, I would be humbled by any, repeat ANY, study that can confirm that claim.
The Greeks have been in worse trouble during their glorious history. They will recover and get on with their lives. The Greeks will do what has to be done.
Great speech, great presentation, thank you Mr. Economides... but wrong diagnosis… Whereas nobody would evoke the Roman Empire while speaking about Italy of Silvio Berlusconi, why should we always link Ancient to Modern Greece ? Does Past, however glorious it was, give us a credit on the present situation ? Yes from a socio-historical point of view, but unfortunately not from an economical one.
@petitpoussinch I dont think he was linking it at all. I thought he was basically saying that Greece should be more versatile with the way they market themselves. Instead of Tourisim, Tourisim, Tourisim, they should market their shipping industry, their solar enegrey exportation, agriculture etc.. At least that's what I perceived
What an excellent presentation!! So many truths, so much to change but as he said together. I also love his quote " you pay peanuts you get monkeys"....so right on the spot!
Born in 1968, I grew up in advertising (in Greece, don't let the name fool you) because of my father's work. When I was about 8, my face -nestled against a white dove- became an EOT poster. Two years later it became a stamp. This is a brilliant presentation. Truly inspiring stuff. Thank you, Mr. Economides!

The problem is that all the "imaginative, visionary, optimistic, DNA has been leaving Greece for the past 60 years. What were're left here are the coffee grounds of a Greek cup of coffee. GR: Το πρόβλημα είναι πως όλο το ευφάνταστο, με οραμα, αισιόδοξο DNA, φεύγει τα τελευταία 60 χρόνια. Αυτό που απέμεινε είναι το κατακάθι από Ελληνικό καφέ.

This needs to go out on national TV to ALL Greeks so we all pull the same strings and stand up for a new image.

This is the MOST comprehensive presentation on branding I have ever seen. Is like re-branding made simple, is understandable and you make scene listening to it. Thank you to Me Economides!
Fouskoto 3 months ago
In South Africa they say “You pay peanuts you get monkeys” and that reflects reality. In Greece reality is that we pay top money and get monkeys and that monkeys are chasing away Greece’s brilliant children. Peter Economides is only one of the thousands of brilliant children that are scattered and unfortunately not used by Hellas.

Everyone can (and should) use these ideas. A narrative. Eventually we are who we want to be. Culture starts with an idea.
beerandbanjo 3 months ago
I think the most important thing that Peter realizes is that at the core of all of this is the national psyche and morale of the people. It is low right now, despite the bravado and seeming indifference to other country's opinions that some Greeks may still show. If they fix their image and boost morale, they will feel inspired. Inspiration will lead to ambition, ambition will lead to a desire for betterment and change. Greece became great because of fearless ambition. It's time again!
greekmasterflex 3 months ago 2
@greekmasterflex Morale is low because many people are long term unemployed, cant make rent or the bank is reposessing their house, cant afford food etc. Let's get real here. The problems are real and until the current corrupt political system dies, we're stuffed.
soppan121 3 months ago
@soppan121 You're absolutely right about the reasons for their low morale, and without cleaning up corruption, their quality of life and morale won't change any time soon. But I think the way out of these very real problems will depend on making small strides in all aspects of Greek life. A public rebranding campaign will help them make these strides. In the end, the best way they can rebrand themselves, is to show that they can be a functional and responsible country.

Since we started the reset process we should correct our brand name from Greece ---> Ellas (without h)

Let me say something to petitpoussinch
1. Modern Greece is the continuity of Ancient Greece.
2. Don't forget that from an economical point of view we sell Ancient Greece to the tourism branch.
3. We Greeks A R E the next generation following the same principals
So if we will understand who we are we the Nation will get back to success as many Greeks abroad

As for your 2. and 3. I agree, but only under the above premise.
nexus01gr 2 months ago
@nexus01gr You sound illogical. Of course it's a continuation, it's just evolved differently over the centuries. Like any nation
EffLabels 1 month ago
@EffLabels Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. Modern Greece, with all of its shortcomings, could not and IS NOT a "continuity" of Ancient Greece or, if you may, The Classical Greece the world has known and loved. We, modern day Greeks, may occupy the same space as they did, but we have very few in common with our ancestry. We are the direct descendants, political and cultural, of the Byzantine era. Not of Ancient Greece. And this is not just semantics. Logical enough?
nexus01gr 1 month ago
@nexus01gr Modern day Italy have nothing in common with Rome, modern day English have nothing in common with the once great British Empire. America is not what is used to be. What's your point? All countries change, but genetically ofcourse we are connected to our ancestors in one way or another
EffLabels 1 month ago
@EffLabels My point is, that you can not pick and choose your past. History is linear and Classical Greece is way further back than Byzantium in our "cultural" genes. Witch means that people, or nations, are more influenced from their most recent past. As for the "genetic" argument, I would be humbled by any, repeat ANY, study that can confirm that claim.

The Greeks have been in worse trouble during their glorious history. They will recover and get on with their lives. The Greeks will do what has to be done.
bitikreas 3 months ago
Great speech, great presentation, thank you Mr. Economides... but wrong diagnosis… Whereas nobody would evoke the Roman Empire while speaking about Italy of Silvio Berlusconi, why should we always link Ancient to Modern Greece ? Does Past, however glorious it was, give us a credit on the present situation ? Yes from a socio-historical point of view, but unfortunately not from an economical one.
petitpoussinch 3 months ago
@petitpoussinch I dont think he was linking it at all. I thought he was basically saying that Greece should be more versatile with the way they market themselves. Instead of Tourisim, Tourisim, Tourisim, they should market their shipping industry, their solar enegrey exportation, agriculture etc.. At least that's what I perceived

Economides!
