I'm a hard working Texan that doesnt put for anything. As of now my work schedule went from 7/14's to 20 huors a week (if lucky). I'm the type of person who doesnt like to take hand outs, so I've never filed for unemployment, I never enrolled for my GI bill either. Yeah I'm hurting at the moment, but I'm too proud to accept failure or take a hand out. So to everyone who's feeling the pain of no work
yeah, the temp job me and my husband have been working at for past 8 months, that was SUPPOSED TO BE 40 hours a week, is MAYBE 3 days a week every other week and most of us have to collect unemployment just to make ends meet!
fuck you yiu cocksucker I've been searching for a job for 20 years and none of them have hired me at all so its not always the unemployed person fault, and fuck every american that disagrees with this comment the goverment can suck my vagina

So TRUE! Unemployment benefits make people lazy. That is such a huge mistake by the government IMHO. Instead of wasting that money, create jobs for those people and make them earn their money. There are things in every community that can be done to make it better. Don't give unemployed people free money, have them contribute by helping out in the community.
you are wrong visionvictory! the only people that got 99 weeks are the ones that got laid off 2 years ago. anyone laid off after that does not-not even close! and it does not discourage people to work. there are no jobs out there!!!!
This engineered financial collapse could not have come at a worse time as Americas aging demographics are retiring on mass after having their life savings fleeced by the filthiest of industries" The America financial industry" aka the US government.
I'm living off $250 a month trying to make what's left of an obliterated retirement account last until I die.
Your comments apply only to low percentage of unemployed abusing the system. Most UE recipients are receiving much less than their annual paychecks and are barely making it. There are virtually no jobs you fool. Outsourcing has also killed us. Try adding age discrimination to your crappy reort, and see how people ages 40 and up are not hired. Don't worry dude, you too will be middle aged someday and We hope you will be discriminated against in the same way.
Ok, the comment needs to go, yes the first month I was off it was fun, but still stressful, but its not a picnic anymore, and I have look very very hard every day!!! I even started my own business on the side etc.! I think he choke at the end there because that was just rude! I know what is going on, we need to get the FED OUT OF THE US! But with all these Paul Reveres, who's really doing anything to fix the problem!!! I spend allot of time writing, emailing, using my business techniques to help
it only takes one thing to get me off unemployment, someplace out of the over 100 places that have accepted my application says 'report for work monday morning' yesterday i went to a job interveiw i filled out paperwork and took 3 tests they took photocopies of my license and social security card it took 2 hours then they told me to check back with them on monday, and this is for a 7.75 an hour job yhat anyone could do.
Growing up the want ads in the local paper used to be 4-5 pages. Now it lists 2 jobs, not 2 pages but 2 jobs. 1 job requires a CDL, the other is minimum wage.
Kind of hard for a Union Electrician to support his household suddenly going to minimum wage.
I know you mean well and it is true some people will not work for a certain hourly or salary....But trust me lots of people are looking for work at way less than even
$10/hr. and the jobs are simply not there!!
Personally I have worked basically two types of jobs in the past; Day labor mostly about $6.50 to $7/hr. or my one and only skill , Swimming pool service which pays about $1600/mo. Day labor jobs are virtually gone and the latter drying up!! I base a healthy economy on labor..GONE!!
I was applying during the weather - I was walking around in the snow, going into stores dropping my resumes. - I laughed when I heard that weather thing.
Snow removal and tree removal services were very busy in the Northeast. Companies that service heaters were also probably busy along with electrical utility workers who repair downed lines. Lots of pot holes to fill in the roads now.
It is what makes Anti Gravity. Money was an unmanageable goal for the rich to get richer. $ is gone soon.Obama has a time limit to announce before the real Power does. Money is an illusion, like time. There are millions of jobs that will seem fantasy, soon to be announced. The Second Law of Thermodynamics was wrong. That changed science and now text books are being rewritten. Obama needs to know that people want change! Change is not continuum of $. $ is impossible to exist with equality.
this is good news. the only reason obama is going to make this announcement is because we all want and need and it's inevtible-change. Obama is going to announce Orgone-which is the biggest discovery in the histroy of mankind.
Let's face it the NWO's doubletalk is debt is wealth, unemployment is good, war is peace, and evil is good. Remember what scripture says in the last days ppl would say? Evil is good and good is evil.
My friend is on extended UE benefits and has been looking for a job for a year. Construction is NILL here - so he is looking at making $7.50 an hr part time in retail vs. unemployment of $400 a week Gee, which would you choose? When his former co. actually has a job, it is only a day or maybe 2, so they offer under the table compensation to not interrupt benefits. Admittedly, he is not looking for work as when he opens the paper, the classifieds contain maybe 20 jobs, all PT, all under $8 hr.
We have the same debate here in germany since years. The establishment argues that unemployment benefits must be cut to give people incentives to search for jobs.
Guess why the establishment wants that in a time where there are more laborers then jobs: The more desperate the unemployed search for jobs, the bigger the competition among applicants, the lower the wages.
Touch the unemployment benefits and you are cutting your own salary, stupid. ;)
Money flows in a circle. Resource Mkt, Business, Product Mkt, and Household Mkt. Banks & Government are in the center serving as a regulator. Why the US Economy ain't workin' is money leakage out of the circle. Trade deficits with China, Massive Oil Imports, The War in the Middle East, US Debt interest to overseas investors, & lastly tremendous wealth transfers from Workers to Retirees. Unless these leaks are stopped, no amount of spending or tax cuts will work. If a ship sinks, plug the leaks.
@cloudsurfer007 Wealth transfer from workers to retirees is not a leakage in the Circular Cash Flow of Income. Neither is social wellfare. The only big leaks with considerable impact are corporate profits, that are invested abroad, and interests on credits. The money of the investment may slowly return, but only to be reinvested again, and cost interests again. This way more and more money circles in another Circular Cash Flow - the financial markets.
"Throughout our history Americans have been best when their backs are against the wall..." and as long as the government stands by handing out cash, you will not see the full potential of the American people, unemployment will not fall, and the real recovery will not begin.
of course people get lazy when theyre on it, I know like 5 people getting the 1900/month your talking about and not looking fo jobs, the fiends that ae lookig fo jobs are those making above 50k/year because that 1900/month doesnt cut it.
To finish your thought: It all started with the Revolutionary war again world power Britain. Then Japan "awakening the giant" when they took 30 ships and 2,350 lives in 1941. Yet not wars, but our innovation and determination won't relent. Our freedoms, as expressed by people like you Daniel, make us superior. Yet it is "in God We Trusted" that made us unstoppable. I pray we still are, as I pray for our everyday warriors who imbibe and emit in truth.
He makes the argument that the Unemployment rate is false and in reality much higher, but then gives examples that would inflate the reported Unemployment rate.
If you seek to prove something but then ignore contravening evidence - you are wasting your time.
As dumb as it is to hear of vacation "funumployment" and rich dual-income people not caring about really looking for a job, think about the fact that if it wasn't at all that way, it would just be another social redistribution program.
If people were truly slacking more, I think that they would hire more oversight quickly.
It's bogus to interpret the "time looking for work a day" study that way. Unemployment payment isn't really meant for such a situation as we're in now. It's NEVER been like this, in the '30s, at least we invested in real jobs programs.
Also, why should your 'snooty' cali people that want 15/hr LOSE MONEY in a job? Part of UE concept is to not have a death spiral of wages and mismatched skills.
Final thought: can the underemployment rate even go much higher until big time gov't layoffs?
My old neighbor wsa on unemployment for over a year and didn't look. She said she wanted a break (her husband had an income). For me, I would be whipping butt looking left and right. I couldn't stand to not look or work...
When the government spends the money you paid and does not treat it like insurance it's a tax. Thus uneployment is welfare not insurance.
I don't want to argue just think for a second if someone runs a ponzi and calls it an investment it does not matter if the government, business or individual runs a ponzi the end result is the same.
I don't care who told you what, reality is what's going on NOT what someone tells you.
I'll tell you what....I am sick of working 40+ hours a week to support the unemployed, the disabled, the elderly, the sick, and every other parasite who gets government checks....including lazy government workers with their criminal labor unions!!!
HOw bout AIG, Wall street, and european banks, thats where your fist bailout went. and the moneis that they spent? If it went to the folks you are bitchin about, IT WOULD HAVE STIMULATED THE ECONOMY. But your heads buried too far, up your.....
fuck you yiu cocksucker I've been searching for a job for 20 years and none of them have hired me at all so its not always the unemployed person fault, and fuck every american that disagrees with this comment the goverment can suck my vagina
This is a travesty that Ried can (Straight faced) tell the American people that 36,000 jobs lost is a really good thing as if he is reporting awesome news.
And it is just amazing that many libs are defending Ried stating that his words are out of context when taken in context it makes him and his people look like people with no answers.
Ried, in 2010 must incumbents will lose their jobs and this is a really good thing.
How does the BLS know if a person has stopped searching for work? They can't check a person's email account to see if they are sending out resumes or searching online. Did the BLS do this phony accounting under the Bush Administration as well or is this new?
against the wall....... it's just a shame that soon there'll be no walls to put our backs up against because of all the construction jobs that are being lost.
The baby boomers have given their entire lives for a system that is failing them in their approaching retirement.
Our kids are grown and we work to pay for our home, for medical insurance, for retirement, and for general living expenses. My home is paid for. It's hopeless to save for retirement wiith the Fed's USD printing strategy. Without medical insurance, we could be wiped out. Day-to-day expenses mean almost nothing.
With free medical care, most baby boomers would stop working, now.
The medical system is a tool used to enslave us. It needs to be neutralized so that corporate America can no longer use it as their way to ensure a workforce no matter what the working conditions.
The baby boomers understand this.
It may be years before the younger generations get it.
everyone says "health care has to be reformed so people can afford insurance"...i say outlaw insurance and let the price of medical care go down to the real value ...just like housing bubble..lets bust the medical /health care bubble...no way is it worth 3 k a night for a bed in a hospital after a rutine gallbladder operation that isnt worth 25k...prices are artificially high due to insurance and health care collusion on prices..not due to market demand or real cost.
Unfortunately, contrary to conventional wisdom a complete deregulated Health Care sector will inflate rapidly. The health care sector behaves different to standard commodities. There is a reason why Japan, Canada, Germany, France, S Korea, Taiwan, Australia end up having a Government controlled HC Sector.
In the US the history of HC has been from completely deregulated to increasing regulations as needed. Now we are coming to the realization that is not working and needs reform.
any thought on the fact that the American worker has been screwed for the last 35 years? Any mention of resentment against fat ass bankers and brokers stealing every day from us? Any thought that unemployment PLUS off the books is the only way to make ends meet? The economy sucks, our elected officials are a joke and it is a rigged system to which we have no key.Survival is the buzzword.Abuse is rampant in any public system.
We are supposed to be fooled into believing that things are getting better. Do you believe it? The second dip was set up by the continued use of a system that is taking the USA apart. The second dip will be very deep. Without true revolution, there is no hope.
People wil get it when they are hungry and can't go to the malls. Most will believe the roof could collapse, when it is on their heads. This type of wake up call, is on the way. USA, USA, USA, USA.
Thats kinda funny...Employed people give tough love lectures about how people shouldn't collect UI...However, when these same "tough love" people loose their jobs they end up collecting UI.....Hypocrites!!!
Don't you think that people would be happier collecting a decent paycheck as opposed to some minimal UI check???
NOT EVERYONE TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE SYSTEM.....THERE ARE THOSE WHO CAN ACUTALLY USE THE MONEY ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS...."NO WORK"...LIKE YOU SAID!!!
Yes, I can site several examples that I know of that I have personally witnessed in which unemployment benefits discourage people from actually getting out there and trying to find a job.......
(continuation) Our industry momentarily bought into the notion that a recovery was in the works. Business picked up and we saw glimmers of hope. However, over the past month or two we've begun to realize that what little business we were actually seeing was exactly that.... false glimmers of hope. We were once a very powerful, skilled, competitive company currently holding on for dear life. A year ago we worried about part time work, a year from now we worry about not job at all.
I'm an engineer, now working part time, available for full time. I'm the U-6 number at its finest. My Civil firm was directly tied to the housing and commercial industry (site design), and suffered massive losses during the collapse. A firm of 150 people reduced to a firm of 35 people. We have work for the month of March, but have no idea what we're going to work on in April. THIS, my friends, is the reality for a firm that used to turn down work because we were too busy. FALSE HOPE.
First, I think of John Belushi from Animal House with his famous lines:"Over?! Nothing's over 'til We say it is! Was it over when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor? Germans? Forget it, he's rolling."
Okay, perhaps those were not the best words to finish your thought. Still, you are right. We are best when things are at their worst. Whether gaining our Independence, "Awaking a Sleeping Giant" from Pearl Harbor, or responding "Let's Roll" for 9/11, it is in our nature to survive and thrive.
American people are resilent and are underdogs at heart and that when we are down we find a way to get up rather than looking for a hand out. Sometimes we have to continue to fight even when the going gets tough
Mag: when was the last time you saw "made in the usa" on anything? Small businesses and the American people will have to go underground to survive and trade for a few years. The president should be a 2-term president, 1 in office, and 1 in prison.
You might have intended to say that: unless we are forced to become productive (rather than encourage our bad attitude of entitlements with all the benefits) can we truly begin making our way out of this continuing economic downturn...and maybe use the benefits to learn how to invest, such as in silver/gold.
I'm getting close to being sick of everything....Thankfully, I can work on my own stuff. My '05 Trailblazer needed new front struts. No problem, I can change them myself, which I did. I bought Gabriel's from the local Autozone. Stamped in the side of them was "made in Venezuela".
WTF! Does this country make anything anymore??? What kind of jobs does Obama or anybody else think we can have here??
If the Government/Corps wanted all Americans to have high paying "Tax Revenue" value added jobs why would we continually allow $20K-$50K jobs to be sent everyday over to China to become $10-$12 Hour jobs on the world's economic stage. at this rate a Neuroscientist will make $25Hour in the USA by 2020.
It sounds to me like you were going to say something along the lines of:
"...difficult circumstances forces people to act and sometimes even get creative in finding ways to feed themselves and their families..." which i agree with. Many people never find out what they're made of until they're tested.
I lived on the east coast for 37 years.. in Maryland and Virginia never gained or lossed a job due to the weather! Obama and his cronies are a bunch of worthless donkeyHOLES!
This wall street banksters bailout that has unofficialy bankrupted America ahead of schedule will have a corrupting influance for all areas of our culture thanks to the suspension of moral hazard by this financial industry that has captured our government.
When did the phrase "save or created jobs" first appear form the Whitehouse podium(s) and pundits?
The answer is early 09 during the run up to the "stimulus package". It demonstrates that the Whitehouse was then anticipating their own failure and the need to fudge employment numbers. And they have been doing just that ever since.
At one time, it wasn't a case of being unqualified for the work the greencard folks held, it was a case of unwilling to do the work. Case in point: We have a large migrant population in our area who do field labor in the summer. If they didn't come up, the blueberries, orchard fruit, vegetables, etc. wouldn't get picked. At least in years past. I'm not sure if the unemployed would jump at such jobs now or not. I'd dare a guess that many would not, especially white collar folks.
??? I'm not sure how we got to what the farmer will make?? I thought your previous comment was implying that those with the green cards are taking jobs away from umemployed American citizens. If so, I don't think that's true in many cases given the type of work many of those holding greencards (or not holding greencards -- ahem) do.
When I was in high school, the boys in my class would always ask me if my Dad was going to need help with haying that summer because they wanted the work. Now, I'd be hard pressed to get any of the neighborhood teens to help put up hay in the barn. I stacked 400+ bales by myself last summer (hubby has allergies). Maybe this summer will be different? Of course, I'm of the mindset that if I could do it last year, I'll be able to do it this year, so their loss!
Yup, my 7 year old (girl) LOVES to help (and she really does help!) in the garden, helps me pick up road apples in the paddock all summer, knows how to milk a goat, and can make pancakes from scratch without a recipe (better than me, her Dad taught her LOL). She puts much older, suburban kids fiddling with Nintendos all day to shame with what she can do. Oh, and she's getting to be a little crack shot with her 22 too.
Actually, I read on one of the youtube sites, that Americans were going to the fields to work, but they were turned away- the bosses wanted to keep their "illegals".
Wow. . . . That's mind-blowing. . . Last year, I noticed on our local Craigslist that a group of high school students were advertising they would work doing field labor. I'm betting unemployed adults had taken all the summer fast-food restaurant jobs. I have often wondered if they had any takers.
"And we, who are not attached to the mainstream media by some invisible umbilical chord, are feeling pretty confident, about now-- knowing what's ahead-- and having the luxury of being able to prepare, each in our own way; well before the US currency change over. "
I wish you would do more to educate people about 'worker displacement' and how allowing 20 million Illegal Alien Foreign Nationals to run around loose EVERYWHERE destroys the Consumer/Tax Base. Add that to Outsourcing and NAFTA Offshoring of the manufacturing base (and 23 Visa programs) and you have the makings of a Foreclosure/Bankruptcy/Mortgage/Credit Crisis ...
Come off it Terra! You know you would never change motel bedsheets or pick grapes for a living! But "offshoring" - and tax breaks to DO so - has a lot to do with our present state of affairs, IMHO!
a pesons brain atropies hugely when not working... i've seen it in myself in the past , and others... took me 5 years to get some of it back, 10 years to get hot again.
employers are not going to be impressed.
2 years of not working will cost people 50 to 80% of their skills base... they will say it hasnt, but once back to work, they almost have to start over.
You see it yourself in software programs...stop using one for year or two then go back to it... you will have a lot of relearn
I've been taking temporary work whenever possible ... keeps your skills up to date and abreast of new technologies, while providing a little caulking for that hole in your financial dam.
Unemployment can only discourage you from getting a job if there are actually jobs to apply to. I have friends on it who would love to get a real job but simply have to make due with what is available as there just is no where to work.
The problem with census jobs is that there is no production. These jobs are good for the person who has the job, but nobody else. They don't produce anything that you can buy or want. May as well mail out checks to people for all of the economic activity it will bring.
VV i am a huge fan of yours but face it. Always hedge your bets, its pretty clear that the Depression crowd was wrong, and I aswell. IMO, I believe we are bouncing off the bottom and im getting on the bull side monday. If the manipulators are manipulating, then there is no point in trying to beat them anymore.
this is a very true video but the jobs are extremely scarce out there Daniel the dash would you recommend buying more silver from buillion direct again thx
My husband actually found a new job before he was laid off from work. The job didn't start for three weeks, so we had a wonderful three week family time before he started his new job.
His new job pays only 77% of what his old job paid, but a 33% lose of pay was better than unemployment. We have always lived on less than he made.
can you explain how the death birth rate influences our employment rate? Jan 2010 showed all negative figures while Feb. showed all possitive numbers. Thanks for the thnngs you do forget these flames trying to discredit you and your point of view.
Ive been unemployed for a year now, unemployment benefits do discourage me from taking a lower paying job. I can't afford to take a job that pays less than the UI benefits. I just found a job I'd like to apply for, it's close to home but it pays $10 an hour. I do look for a job for about 6 hours a day on average. My sister in law is unemployed and she's working at a bar and she's not on the books.
European findings say a single container ship may cause as much pollution as 50 million cars and release as much as 5,000 tons of sulfur oxide into the air annually. There are 90,000 such ships in operation in world at any one time.
If you implement extra tough carbon tax laws on shipping to make shipping commodities unattractive, companies will be forced to import work to make goods locally. It will also save massive amounts of worlds dwindling energy supplies.
"Throughout our history Americans have been best when their backs are against the wall..... however because government has replaced the wall with a hammock, Americans put forth less effort. With less effort from Americans, America cannot possibly be at her best but in fact has entered decline."
its impossible to steadily lose 500.000 jobs a month. we have reached peak job loses but we will see a continued job lose but not at high numbers cause companies are at bare bones. do these idiots think we are all dumbasses and do not know whats going on here????
You can hardly expect a person to endanger their UI, which they depend on, by reporting that they received $50 for fixing their neighbor's porch. Of course, they won't.
In NY the UI can be up to $405/week plus the federal $25 add in. That is gross not net (I don't know why they tax UI benefits but they do). Plus many people work while on UI (there's no reason not to no one really checks), and they just get paid cash or do a 1099 b/c the 1099 has no start date on it. Getting UI benefits really destroys the incentive to find a job, especially when they direct deposit it and make it so easy for you to get it.
It's funny how so many people here think that collecting UI is only abusive when you don't need it.
The people that need it are the irresponsible ones that can't seem to make ends meet even with 430 free dollars a month. These are the people that ended up in upside down mortgages with large families, totally living it up.
These are the people that created the housing bubble in the first place and now we're saying they're the ones who "need" it because they have the largest payments? F that!
You were going to say that the unintended consecuenses from the goverment by extending the unemployment benefits longer than normal will discourage people from finding work that otherwise would find it when being backed against the wall.
Hey all. Well I've been on Unemployment since I lost my job in Sept '08 and I'm very grateful for it because it allowed us to pay our bills long enough to arrange our migration out of the country. Since losing my job we've been living very lean, selling belongings and saving everything we can for this move. The basic living expenses exceed the income slightly so it wouldn't keep us afloat forever but it saves having to sell gold to survive. Now there's just 2 months left and we're outta here! :)
The economy is bad enough now that the government should be directly creating jobs like the WPA did during the depression. An employed person is a 'Value added' revenue stream to the government and economy of the United States. There are 1 Billion+ well educated Chinese that can't wait to take jobs away from Americans and the multi-national corps are more than happy to oblige. Hire Americans first because if you don't the tax burden is only going to get worse for every remainingworkingcitizen.
V V, your optimism for a future more honest & improved America is certainly admirable. Keep up the outstanding work. from...................Sydney, Australia,
I thought you were going to say "So if you are unemployed don't wait to long looking for a job because when that time comes there might not be any to be had".
I think to finish your comment you were going to say something like....we do our best when our backs are to the wall but with the fake support of UI we delay or put off continually doing our best. We don't take the situation seriously because we, like the economy are being artificially propped up by the gov with UI stimulus....thats where I thought you were going.
we are loosing more jobs before july comes around. we are talking about millions of jobs by the end of the year. within one month, about 6000 or 20,000 jobs will be lost. Corporations will like that because now they employ plenty of slaves for peanuts and get rich... Corporations are setting is up for slave employment inside the U.S and abroad. Corporations will in turn make millions on the consumers of the U.S or even on third world nations. Corporations, politicians, secret societies..
EXAMPLE---> Buddy of mine works as a cook at a local restaurant, 1 of the owner's many scams includes telling their off the books employees to go collect unemployment benefits for a certain amount of time(while still working under the table). After that certain amount of time, the unemployed employee is asked by the owner to apply for a job at the same restaurant. You see the owner gets some kind of tax break for hiring "unemployed" people(not sure on the exact details)
Daniel its been quite a while since I worked in HR, so if I'm out-of-date on this someone let me know. Most states try to set their UI benefits to encourage work - ie if you find some work and get paid $250 in a week, and your benefit per week was $425, you would still get your UI benefit payment, less a percentage of the actual payroll you earned. The result is you end up getting more in your pocket than your regular UI check would have been, by just working a little bit.
Also 1st time filer numbers are almost always going to be skewed. Benefit amounts are determined by a look-back earnings period, and anyone in seasonal (or construction type trades) will hold off filing until their look-back period is most favorable to qualify for the largest possible UI benefit check. They'll find piece work or other under the table work to hold them over until they finally file.
Us Americans (even those who are poor) are among the richest people in the world. If you have change in your pocket, under your couch cushions.....you are rich.
The BIble says it's almost impossible for a rich man to enter Heaven....I think what is happeneing now is a blessing. Sell what you have and give the rest to those who need it. Live VERY simply. God said He'll take care of those who listen to Him....I need to to listen. God is taking away our worldly items......this isn't bad.

Touch the unemployment benefits and you are cutting your own salary, stupid. ;)
The unemployed are workers too - unite!

Why can't we all just look at things like our government does;with their EYES WIDE SHUT
mcap52 2 years ago
Money flows in a circle. Resource Mkt, Business, Product Mkt, and Household Mkt. Banks & Government are in the center serving as a regulator. Why the US Economy ain't workin' is money leakage out of the circle. Trade deficits with China, Massive Oil Imports, The War in the Middle East, US Debt interest to overseas investors, & lastly tremendous wealth transfers from Workers to Retirees. Unless these leaks are stopped, no amount of spending or tax cuts will work. If a ship sinks, plug the leaks.
cloudsurfer007 2 years ago
@cloudsurfer007 Wealth transfer from workers to retirees is not a leakage in the Circular Cash Flow of Income. Neither is social wellfare. The only big leaks with considerable impact are corporate profits, that are invested abroad, and interests on credits. The money of the investment may slowly return, but only to be reinvested again, and cost interests again. This way more and more money circles in another Circular Cash Flow - the financial markets.

As dumb as it is to hear of vacation "funumployment" and rich dual-income people not caring about really looking for a job, think about the fact that if it wasn't at all that way, it would just be another social redistribution program.
If people were truly slacking more, I think that they would hire more oversight quickly.
YankeeGlacier 2 years ago
It's bogus to interpret the "time looking for work a day" study that way. Unemployment payment isn't really meant for such a situation as we're in now. It's NEVER been like this, in the '30s, at least we invested in real jobs programs.
Also, why should your 'snooty' cali people that want 15/hr LOSE MONEY in a job? Part of UE concept is to not have a death spiral of wages and mismatched skills.
Final thought: can the underemployment rate even go much higher until big time gov't layoffs?

When the government spends the money you paid and does not treat it like insurance it's a tax. Thus uneployment is welfare not insurance.
I don't want to argue just think for a second if someone runs a ponzi and calls it an investment it does not matter if the government, business or individual runs a ponzi the end result is the same.
I don't care who told you what, reality is what's going on NOT what someone tells you.

BeenInACaveWayToLong 2 years ago
The medical system is a tool used to enslave us. It needs to be neutralized so that corporate America can no longer use it as their way to ensure a workforce no matter what the working conditions.
The baby boomers understand this.
It may be years before the younger generations get it.
BeenInACaveWayToLong 2 years ago
everyone says "health care has to be reformed so people can afford insurance"...i say outlaw insurance and let the price of medical care go down to the real value ...just like housing bubble..lets bust the medical /health care bubble...no way is it worth 3 k a night for a bed in a hospital after a rutine gallbladder operation that isnt worth 25k...prices are artificially high due to insurance and health care collusion on prices..not due to market demand or real cost.
centervilletn 2 years ago 7
@centervilletn

What we need is a non-violent "voting revolution". Our system works, if people would just participate!
We could change the entire situation just by replacing all of congress with "like minded" representation.
We need representaion who will turn the emphasis back into the direction of the American people.
Without educating the general voter, nothing will change.

Where I come from unemployment works like this: To receive benefits you must show that you have made 10 attempts to find a job per week.
When you do get a job, you will not lose all your benefits, your benefits will reduce by 50 cents for each dollar you receive from working.
There are also many people who cheat the system and I see a lot of drug addicts and so forth.

We have work for the month of March, but have no idea what we're going to work on in April. THIS, my friends, is the reality for a firm that used to turn down work because we were too busy. FALSE HOPE.

I think you were going to say:

SSanf 2 years ago
i'm not talking about that, i'm talking about people making 2,500+ a month.

F that!

"430 free dollars a month"
I meant to say 430 free dollars a week.

same in the uk , better off not working if you don't have a mortgage, if you do have one u have to work for peanuts!

The times have changed, yet history is a good guild. Hopefully American's do prove to be "at their best when their back is againist the wall".
InTheSticks1881 2 years ago
You were going to say that the unintended consecuenses from the goverment by extending the unemployment benefits longer than normal will discourage people from finding work that otherwise would find it when being backed against the wall.
Keep up the great work, I enjoy the info

The result is you end up getting more in your pocket than your regular UI check would have been, by just working a little bit.
hunt1803 2 years ago
Also 1st time filer numbers are almost always going to be skewed. Benefit amounts are determined by a look-back earnings period, and anyone in seasonal (or construction type trades) will hold off filing until their look-back period is most favorable to qualify for the largest possible UI benefit check. They'll find piece work or other under the table work to hold them over until they finally file.
Some wait nearly a year before filing.
