Mantids should be fed insects,not lizards. Those 2 should not be housed together. This is like pitbull fighting. Totally cruel and inhumane treatment of animals. I've had both as pets and never even thought of housing them together. The mantis was acting out of defense and not hunger. I hope that you released the both of them.

I have had huge mantids that would make a snack out of your mantid and that fence lizard both. I fed them the huge garden spiders and they had do problem devouring them. Your mantid wasn't even that big,it was normal sized. I also repeat,it was acting defensively and not trying to capture the fence lizard. I'm asking my local zoo about this.

Mantis and lizards fight all the time. I heard this story of a gecko which used to hunt mantises. One day an large one decided to fight back. They fought for 5 minutes, the gecko got cut to pieces and lost its tail but eventually won by breaking its legs. Now THAT would been a good fight to watch.
