Funny I'd often ask my first daughter to give me the toy she was playing with by stretching my hand like this guy, to educate her to be generous. I was afraid she could become selfish without siblings to share with, so I decided to play the part of the sharer.
The monkey only chooses the pro-social reward so that it's companion won't kick its ass later on. Note what it does when the companion monkey can't see what it does. selfish, primate. Clearly, the Pope needs to send animal-missionaries to the jungle to convert the beasts to Catholism.
I think religious people somehow think that if we descended from monkeys that makes us monkeys! This is not the case although the behavior or many religious people indeed seems very monkey like at times. All I can say is trust and faith are not in and of themselves godlike, it always depends on who you are trusting, and those you trust almost always have goals in mind for you that you are either unaware of inconsistent with your goals. However one seeks connection with god, its personal.
so. I shouldn't trust anyone because I'm unaware of their goals. And even IF I discover their goals, they will always be inconsistent with my goals. I wander if there's something that could depress me more.
In a cycling trip, a friend of mine stopped by the roadside for a breather. He threw a piece of powerbar to a monkey. This monkey took the powerbar, break it into half, and gave one of the half to another monkey nearby. We were shocked! If monkeys practice sharing, imagine how low a selfish human is.
seems like its a survival instinct. when the monkey is familiar then it would increase the chances of it's group's survival. if unfamiliar, the monkey is selfishly choosing it's own survival.
Nup. If there was a third option of taking the token that gave the monkey nothing but meant it's neighbour got something then yes, I could see that there was something going on but this is nothing.
I'm assuming you're talking about the "atheists nightmare'? Look up the wild banana on google. Your so called 'perfect god given banana' was actually genetically modified, by scientists, to be more suitable for human needs. I rest my case.
so the keyword to human morality is imagination? I wonder...
