  • @Sk8FalIen i consider it cheating if you want a fair comparison of which car is faster. I mean if the stang had internal work done instead of spray, then fine, that would still be comparing what car was faster at the time with how each was built. Throwing a 100 shot on a stock car is a cheap way out and doesnt actually make the engine itself any stronger - it just puts more ponies down to the pavement. Its an additive and not a part of the actual car so i dont think it should be used in races.

  • @trunkisloud Ether your brain is playing tricks on you or you meant to say 4.0. My 4.6 is dyno'd at 386 HP to the wheels now, with headers, exhaust, and high flo cat. Still no CAI. A 100% stock 4.6 is rated around 303-309 HP.

  • @TVdinnerFTW for your car to be putting down 386HP to the wheels would mean that you have over 420 crank horsepower, which would be more than the new 5.0 mustang. For some reason I do not believe that your 4.6 is making more than 100HP over stock just from exhaust mods.

Its going to take more than bolt ons to make a s197 make that much power and get even CLOSE to trapping 115. Bolt on LS1's are beating 5.0's no problem, do you really think a bolt on 3v is on the 5.0's level especially from a roll?

    I am a LS1 owner and us who know anything about LS1's they will not trap 110+ stock. Yes the rustang was spraying there is no 4.6 stock that will hold with a LS!

  • @Microbombs I too have a LS1 and yes on a cold day some stock LS1's have trapped 110. I thought by now everyone has witnessed the bone stock LS1 run 12.69 @ 110 with only dr's. Yes it was probably a cold day but it did happen and still does. My auto WS6 ran 13.2 all day whenever she was stock with street tires. Pulling 1.9 60 ft and trapping 108. How is it that hard to believe that the M6 wouldn't be able to hit 110. I'm not saying every LS1 can but some do.

  • Regarding the Coyote, its putting more to the ground than the LS3 Camaro. See the Livernois vids for evidence.

    It's an impressive engine for 2011, but the Mach and 03 Cobra were impressive for 2003, and the LS1 was impressive up until 2002. Time marches on, but Ford has stuck to their guns and it has paid off and has been paying off.

    PS, Ford has been offering 400 HP w/o an SC for years in Australia. :)

Honestly I love the new Camaro and Mustang, but GM did an injustice to the Camaro by bringing it back so damn heavy. Came back w/ 400 lbs of I guess safety equip and maybe IRS. The 2011 5.0 is prolly the first Mustang past 1970 worth having on my list.

  • ...short on potential and modability. Another good comparison would be the FPV Boss 315 (5.4 4V N/A) versus the HSV 6.2 LS3. The 5.4 puts more horsepower and torque to the ground stock for stock.

    Another comparison would be FIA GT3, where 5.0L Ford Cammers (n/a) are beating up on LS7Rs. See the 2009 GT3 season results for evidence.

  • I romped all over a '09' Mustang GT with intake exhaust and tune in my stock '01' WS6 last sunday... Rolling start 60-150mph. I pulled ahead around 110mph. He had to shift before I did and the LS1 5.7l is just too much for a stang

  • @DarknightOTC just some info for ya...the LS engine is a ford design.....it and the modular were designed by ford and ford elected the modular to replace the 302. Then sold the rights of the "LS" engine to the general. Dont beleive me? look it up...the firing order is exactly the same as a 5.0 HO. Ford had the technology but sold it (which is why they didnt need a gov't bail out like the general)..put that in your pipe and smoke it ;)

  • @dalemllns I'm not sure what Mustang forums you've been reading, but only supporting evidence you'll find about your "theory" is there were some Ford engineers that came over to GM during the time they developed the LS engine. The LS engine apparently was the better choice considering there have been more of them swapped into vehicles than Ford could ever imagine. The after-market is much more receptive of it as well. Firing order doesn't mean anything. Ford started making better cars=No Bailout

  • @DarknightOTC no forums, I actually read that in a chevy high performance magazine years ago...and yeah there were some engineers involved. And the after market has always been good for mustangs..there are companies that only sell mustang parts. Just tell me this... (the new 5.0 helps) if ford had made the modular say a 351ci instead of a 281ci all those years ago would the LS engine really be so tough. GM guys never want to admit that the mod motor is good. 400+hp now on 302ci.... vs 377 6.0?

  • @dalemllns Ford has always had the 5.4 available so I really don't see how a 351 would have made a difference. LSx is still tough regardless. They can be build to withstand high hp for less money. The LSx has a huge following no doubt. I'm not going to get into a Cu Inch war. The fact is regardless of the "size", the weight of the engine is still less than a Mod motor. The gas mileage is the same or better in most cases yet no extra cams. Currently Ford doesn't make a very good point for DOHC.

My 4.6 currently sports CNC Ported heads, Cams, Intake and a few other bolt ons... I will post a more current vid later and let you watch that one...the reads LSXASSN......

  • @dalemllns LS cars include Vettes. A stock C6 6.2 could take anything you just mentioned. For every bit of tuning or engine work you could do the same on the LS engine for less. This could be an endless argument. I'll just say I prefer a WS6 sportin' an LS engine.

Nowadays it's getting more and more common to see 700+ hp LS cars. Caddys, Vettes, Trucks, etc. There's some pretty wicked Z06s in town here as well so. As long as your in a Mustang and looking for a fight you'll eventually find a car that will take you down no matter how much pride you have.

  • @LieKiller I never said they are superior. Dollar for Dollar they are better imo, but that's my opinion. DOHC can be great unfortunately some companies just don't show it. Until recently stock V8 powerplants from Ford have been pretty average. Every time they make a muscle/super car it involves forced induction. All that weight adds up. A good comparison would be the 5.4sc in the GT500 vs the LS7. The weight difference in the engine alone is ridiculous. DOHC+SC vs. Pushrod NA.

  • @DarknightOTC A good example of DOHC/OHV is Mach 1 & 98+ Z28/SS. Despite the Mach being down by 65 cubic inch and the cars weighing roughly the same, the Mach is all over the LS1. The LS1 doesn't even manage to exceed the Mach's peak rwTQ by much.

    GM's first stab at a "super car" (ZR1) involved forced induction. You are comparing an iron block DOHC 5.4 to an all aluminum LS7. A better comparison would the Ford GT 5.4 vs the LS7, but admittedly the LS7 is still lighter, but falls way...

  • @LieKiller I'm primarily comparing engines, but comparing the Mach 1 which arrived the year after the end of production of the F-Bodies doesn't make much sense either. The LS1 introduced in 97 compared a updated design in 2003. I could compare the LS6 to it as well since it was introduced during the same time. The Ford GT 5.4 has a SC plus DOHC extra weight. It makes only 45 more hp and 30 ft/lbs of tq more. At the same time is less fuel efficient than the LS7.

  • @DarknightOTC You're kidding yourself if you are going by manufacturer outputs on the FGT 5.4 and the LS7. FGT's make between 525 - 545 rwhp (SAE) to the LS7's 430-450 rwhp (SAE). Not even close. And regarding modability, stock FGT LONGblocks can take 1,200 rwhp, and will break 650 rwhp with nothing but a pulley swap and a tune.

    And I hope the LS7 would be more fuel efficient, being that it is in a lighter car making ~100 HP less. Regarding fuel efficiency of an engine BSFC figures...

If BSFC figures are always better on the Ford then I guess they like to choose bloated cars and bad gear ratios? All the years of 5 spds instead of 6 spds like Fbodies. It took years for the MODs to get the low end grunt that the LS1 and even LT1 had. 5.0 Coyote is the first promising NA Ford engine I've seen. Finally touching 400hp w/ no SC from the factory.     Ford GT - two standing mile world records, 1500 rwhp street builds, 2500 rwhp race builds (albeit not in the FGT chassis), the LS9 dynos virtually the same numbers stock for stock but hasn't improved one lick to the minor bolt on performance Ford offered 5 years earlier.

  • @LieKiller There really isn't any point modifying the LS9 in a ZR1. Mostly collector cars. Most would rather build up off an LSX block in a more affordable car. Besides that LS9 has only been on the market so long. Obviously there are easy hp upgrades from the SC on the LS9 already to get into the low 700s. Super high hp is where DOHC shines, but for us everyday ppl that aren't going over 700 or 800 hp i see no clear cut advantage. Costly to get that much power from anything.

Once the engine is installed in a car, variances in gearing, aerodynamics, mechanical drag and factory tuning matter as much or more to the window sticker than what's under the hood. The 4.6 actually has better BSFC numbers than the LS1. Doubt me? Buy engine simulator software.

  • @DarknightOTC ....despite the smaller cylinder bores and smaller volume intake ports. The Mach heads actually outflow all of the factory cathedral ports stock for stock, 241 or 243s. :)

  • @LieKiller Any way you slice it from 93-02 (4th G) F-Bodies stomped all over Mustangs in those same years whether your comparing the LS1, LT1 or even V6s. 0-60Mph, 1/4 Mile, Skidpad, Track times. I remember reading the article in MT in 2003 when they put the new 390hp Cobra up against the 02 TA WS6 and how despite more power the TA still had the best lap times every time. I'm just not impressed. For an example. 2003 Mach 1 0-60 (5.6) 1/4 (13.2) while 2000 TA WS6 managed 0-60 (5.0) 1/4 (13.4).

  • they both came with about 300 hp from the factory so for haveing nos in the mustang and the t tops off on the T.A. it was pretty close

  • My bolt-on LS1 T/A WS6 w/ headers,T-tops off Vs. A Mustang GT with a 100 shot of NOS/bolt-ons. Yes he sprays. Have you ever raced with the t-tops off at high speeds lol it feels like the ass end of you car is floating so just imagine how much drag that is making and o yea HE IS SPRAYING A 100 SHOT and the mustang won by maybe a car. Both fast cars and the mustang did look very sharp just not enough go for a 100 shot IMO but modular engines dont respond to nitrous as well as a LS1/pushrod engine.

He didn't sound like he had a cam, he didn't have a blowoff valve, a whine from a pulley, he sprayed. You really aren't a genius on cars at all. Thats why you think he didn't spray.

  • that mustang is not spraying, bs on the guy who posted. i have an intake, tune and exhaust on an 05 automatic gt and i am running consistant 12.80s trapping 108 each time. I assume this car has about the same mods as me, cuz thats wut it looks like when i run ws6 with an exhaust. That car spraying would be outttt. stock for stock, ws6 wins, their high end is too much for the 4.6 when stock.

  • My WS6 runs 12.7 @ 111 on street tires and stock gears, only mods are magnaflow catback and ory pipe. I've never had a 4.6 pull me on top end with full exhaust and a few bolt ons

  • @sinisterseven8 depends where he lives.... if hes at sea level its possible to dip into the high 12's. here in high elevation utah a stock ws6 runs a 13.5 but he could aslo be a butt fucking liar ;)

  • i also live in utah and my bud has a 2001 ws6 i have never seen him run faster then 13.9.. i think ur talkin sea level with that 13.5 high 12's would be un realistic imo
