OMG, I have to say, I came across this Aria by means of another and I have to say as 'TFreckle', one of the most (if not the most) beautiful Aria ever written. Yes.. Simple but yet A-M-A-Z-I-N-G-!!!! GENIUS Maestro Handel!!! Just Genius!!!!!! I hope there's no limit on yen Viewing....
This is probably one of the most beautiful arias every written by handel. And Dessays supernatural range perfects it, too bad the violin soloist is having an off-day...
It's so amazing to think that after two hours of quite high-charged music the oratorio ends with this ravishing aria that really seems to come down from the sky... how can you get up and go home??
Handel in one of his most beautiful arias, and Dessay in one of her best Handel performances, perfect combination!
I am very confused with this Oratorio performance. There is an another version out there with an entirely different melodic passages. That version by conductor Rinaldo Allessandrini sounds slower version of the melodic passage taken out from HWV 6 Aggripinas first area for Ottone. Whilst this version HWV46A by Emmanuelle Haim sound like the collections of an unfinished Sonate di Chiesa per Violini e tiorba based on similar passage lines taken from Corelli Opus5 which reaches beyound E
This version HWV46A by Emmanuelle Haim sound like the collections of an unfinished Sonate di Chiesa per Violini e tiorba based on similar passage lines taken from Corelli Opus5 which reaches beyound E altissima which makes the passage very dramatic and sad. If anyone knew what went on the melodic passage, please kindly respond.
This is the greatest thing I have ever heard. This woman has an angel voice. perfect, musical, just beautiful... If anyone would critizice her, would be just a jealous
cierto! no era fácil darse cuenta, aunque creo que alguna vez lo dejé bastante evidente. Ahora mismo lo vuelvo a escuchar y no dejo de maravillarme!!!
In a recording situation, singers do whatever it takes to make them feel comfortable and 'in the moment'... very often this includes extravagant gestures that amount to conducting themselves. This is not limited to classical singers.
Me encanta ver estos videos de "cocina" cuando se graba, aquí se aprecia que lo que uno escucha en disco no es casualidad, es fruto de horas de labor obstinada... Gracias.
Breathtakingly beautiful. Haim, as conductor, the violinist and, of course, Dessay singing in that transcendentally magnificent voice. French baroque performance is just out of this world.

I really prefer Deborah York with Concerto Italiano under Rinaldo Alessandrini. The singer is much better without this irritating operatic touch in her voice which does not correspond to the affetti of the libretto.
Haim's version is just as good an interpretation - although I believe NOBODY can ever recreate that moment of enlightenment when Corelli himself played the solo violin.
I dont understand why so many people in the opera world seem to hate her ... at least if you look at some of the comments here, you would think she couldnt sing a straight tone. love her
oh stop talking about hate! some people don´t like her but that´s all,it´s a matter of taste, there must be singers you dont like at all and surely you don´t hate them..
Oddly enough, I stumbled on that video yesterday on EMI Classics' website (latest releases, Il Trionfo / Haïm), and I was in awe. What she does at the end (especially from 5:23 to 5:39 in one breath) is simply sublime. Her voice is like an instrument.

By the way, I was just wondering, is this a coincidence that Handel composed this 'Bella' Aria to be sung by ''Bellezza"? Genius!!

Tu del Ciel ministro eletto
non vendrai più nel mio petto
voglia infida, o vano ardor.
E se vissi ingrata a Dio,
tu custode del cor mio
a lui porta il nuovo cor.

A perfect balance between Voice, Violin, Theorbo make this version a way above common place, the finest work of virtuosi.

I dont know why, but if you sing, you dont sing only with voice but with body, voice is only the instrument to make a sound
