  • how we missed dennis and carl

  • mike says toward the end that their goal was to have the greatest harmonies in pop music . mission accomplished . not even the beatles could touch them .

  • I root against Kevin Love in the NBA just because he's related to Mike Love.

  • lol Mike Love shouldnt be on this documentary

  • @jammmon No arguement there

  • @jammmon hes absolutely useless.

  • Amazing artists! Legends

  • What you also don't hear on the tapes is a SONG!! This is an incomplete album, background harmonies and sound effects being sold to the public as a fully realized "genius" album. It a lot of noise in search of a song.

  • @viddrome Don't be so sure; you just have to understand the format. Pet Sounds' instrumental passages were expanded upon in shorter and more articulate instrumental narrative. Notice there are three key songs without verses and three movements; and CITFOTM-Look-etc. are just sections of Surf's Up. Separating them into tracks fractures it. If you treat it like 5 or 6 *masterpiece* pop songs nestled nicely between these great 2-3 minute sonic explorations, it's less far out.

  • @viddrome also he used the instruments to create the "sound effects", turning violins into sirens, you can almost hear the diving board on "love to say dada", the waves of french horns on "Surf's Up"--it's just the most beautiful sound scape to lie around in for an hour or so. also none of The Elements were ever intended to have vocals except "Love To Say Dada", but even then how can you top the water chant? it's much more than an album; it's a statement and a comforting one. it's a big song.

  • @viddrome and you are alot of bullshit in search of a brain

  • i think its better smile came out now than in the 60 ies, the world need smile now more than ever!

  • thank you, i love it so much! they did it!!!!

  • These videos are just fantastic!

  • Amazing video!! Very insightful in terms of how the process of creating harmonies worked.

  • It all goes back to Brian and The Four Freshmen, who

are the group influence and formed the basis of his harmonies, but

took it a thousand steps forward with more falsetto layered

and higher based harmonies. I often compare his higher

register harmonies to vocal group such as The Manhattan

Transfer, or the New York Voices, both jazz groups but

very similar vocal harmony structure. But his clever trickery

using voice to mimic sounds of musical instruments plus

    his use of unique sounds

  • I don't know much about Rundgren, but I do know he is

a techie and did a good job on Good Vibrations, just like

Brian, pretty much all by himself. He definitely is quite different

but 'ol Brian was pretty obtuse himself.

  • Brian is brilliant! I love him so much and he was so attractive...even now, just the cutest old dude I have ever seen :)

  • I love these videos!

  • Ever notice, no one could ever duplicate those complex harmonies.

It blows me away, Brian created all this 50 plus years ago without

the advantage of today's tech. Simply brilliant, nothing more nothing

less. Something about Brian's harmonies. It tickles my eardrums and

    makes me SMILE.

  • @cobrabobby1

Todd Rundgren came close on a cover of Good Vibrations.

  • @cobrabobby1 i lost pretty much any respect i had for todd rundgren when he tried to take over my favorite band of all time, the cars. thankfully, that ended swiftly.

  • @cobrabobby1

I think it's BECAUSE technology was so limited back then, that he is so gifted. He very disciplined.. I think most musicians today sit in front of a computer screen, reading tabs, learning songs that way . Brian Wilson sat at the piano for hours, probably going back and forth between the piano and the record player, dissecting songs, learning everything by ear. This of course yields different results.

  • @gdoddmeta3608

Simply put, he heard musical things no one else heard. He has an ongoing

musical scale that he taps when he makes music. The result is very pleasing,

unique, sophisticated music that most cannot duplicate.

  • This is an amazing video. Love seeing all the guys. Brian on piano is so cool. Father of the man!

  • How Brilliant is Brian Wilson!! Another great episode :)

  • Spanish Subtitles anyone in the production team Please?

We are almost 500 million spanish speakers , many of us love The Beach Boys and sure be grateful.

    Thank you from Argentina.

  • Goal accomplished.

  • 0:14 begs the question to be asked....Al Jardine had to stoop down? Where was the rest of the band? Lying on the floor? LOL,

  • Genius! AH! I adore Brian Wilson. What a gift to bear.

  • Awesome!
