@kowz4u of course, we all do. But not all think of it or even know what they are. Back when I started wheeling we didnt have all the stuff because we didnt have the money for it. I've seen an Ebrake work pretty good. Shoot, it even works on my john Deere lawn tractor :)
@firebrand07 I have to pinch and save for the list I have and the jeep its self . I am not greedy about what I want . just a 4in. lift one locker a 8000 lb warn. I have had my TJ for a little more than a year. I know that this works .I t is in the manual that came with the jeep. but thank you this may give others a heads up. It is like the folks that don't know what the little #s after D on an auto trans.this changes down hill driving. it can save your breaks from fading. :) OllllllO
@firebrand07 Just put wipers on today. now it won't rain. like they say Just Empty Every Pocket . just another 37$ ching ching. At least I can see now. Thinkin of goin mudden. OllllllO' S rock:)
@brodief LMAO...I think quite a few have had his Mom! and who would be dumb enough to remove Rubicon selectable air lockers which are virtually indestructible and replace them with full time Detroit Lockers??
@yukonwheeler1 LMAO...I think quite a few have had his Mom! and who would be dumb enough to remove Rubicon selectable air lockers which are virtually indestructible and replace them with full time Detroit Lockers??
some younger jeepers might not know this but in that type of situation you can give a slow tug on the emergency brake to put power to the other rear wheel. It can work in a pinch. Been there. Try it sometime.
It will work to a minor extent and perhaps enough to help get you out of a jamb.....it's helped me a few times. This is an old farmers trick and works best when you have "steering" brakes on individual wheels. I use it with my John Deere lawn tractor with good success....just brake the wheel that spins and the other will kick in.
can anyone tell me whats wrong with this picture?......stock anything 4x4, passenger rear and drivers front are power wheels, so how did he "become stuck". any 4x4 without lockers would not be stuck in this position.
lockers deff. will get u out of a tight situation ...my 07 sahara has a option on it called trak lok limited slip on it, anybody know exactly how it works?
Trak lok is not a locker, it is a posi traction device. So a locker is #1, a limited slip is #2, and open differential is #3. A limited slip is like a manufacturers excuse to say we've tried. A limiteed slip isn't much better than an open differential when you get on the slick stuff.
A trak lok is a clutch type limited slip. Similar to the limited slip used in mustangs and such. They work well but are more used for streetable vehicles. They will not keep the axles fully locked but are definitly better than an open diff. they function automatic. You can ope up the rear and switch the clutch packs around to get a better torque split which means it will lock up faster than stock
Real World examples are always 5*'s in my book. Have you had the chance to over-ride the OEM locker switch yet? Our NanoBionic Rubicon will be set up soon.
i still don't understand what they do. i'm only 17 and i go off roading all the time. i've heard of them but if you could explain to me what they do that would be great. thanks
well as you can see, he was in four wheel drive as he became stuck do to limited slip differential. all lockers do is force all 4 wheels to spin at the same time with equal power, allowing you to power through situations such as this one...although i couldnt think of a better situation you could need them than this one^^
or just modulate the brakes, but to each their own. :p
You probably want to take it easy on the gas with lockers too. One thing lockers do best is break axle shafts.

Im new when it comes to utility assortments. What exactly are "lockers"? isnt it just 4x4?
kagome4life456 1 year ago
@kagome4life456 It's real time 4x4. All 4wheels turn at the same time. No limited slip differential when engaged.

lol... without lockers, it means that the power is going to the wheel in the air...
lockers mean both wheels have power, enabling you to get out of that type of situation
