actually, these products have not always been "expensive". At one point. French made gloves were very affordable to European and American consumers...my Mom owns 20 pairs and my grandmother owns over 50 pairs...all were made in Paris. Today, the suppliers (quality leather and hardwares) and artisans (less of them) drive the price up.
@Microglia1 This analysis, of course, depends on what your definition of expensive is and also your "financial" standing in life.....let's not make quick pronouncements - these may have very well been expensive for one quarter of the entire world.....
Also, the skilled artisans, who were once treated as "a dime-a-dozen" worker bees are now very limited in numbers--their craft, handed down for decades, is now deeply vaunted--they are finally getting their due...
