Wonderful! It's kind of a 'duh!' type of thing... free healthcare... and for you down there that put down 48%, go take a math class and learn how to do percent. I give it *5* Freebird's out of *5*. That's *5* Freebird's out of *5*!!! LOLz
I feel only pity for the stupid people who think that because the Nazi's called themselves "National Socialists" that they were actually socialists. Idiots. They were fascist, which is at the OPPOSITE end of the political spectrum. But what should we expect from youtube comments? XD
free health care? wtf were you watching. i wish we were talking about nationalized health care but we weren't... a more affordable socialized medicine alternative that actually works is all we are looking for anyway. right now we get raped on cost and denied of care - nice for the elite who are raking it in...
If you caculate the percentage of GNP spend on health care, then US has by far the most expensive health care system in the world, but as far as I hear they don't provide better service than the health care systems social democratic countries in Northern Europe.
Sometimes capitalism, isn't the most efficient way to do things.
Free health care, just like the NHS we have in the UK. There's not going to be death panels. It's for the poorer population to have access to health care.
Remeber this childhood song from the movie Mary Poppins "Just a spoon full of surgar makes the medicine go down in the most delightful way" Now it's "Just a sip of kool-aid makes the believing obama go down in the most stoned way"... "hope" "change" "HELLcare".
You are so right.Obama has a secret plan to socialize this nation. Taking away our rights to chose plan 1 or plan 1 or plan1 or no plan is an outrage. These insurance companies are the kindest most caring in the world that we have in the great U.S.A. and anyone who doubts it go to Europe and see what its like getting care for free. Free, that even sounds communistic doesn't it.
Maybe so, but if you think about it,wouldn't it be cheaper to have only one or a couple of plans, because if you have more people on the same plan or on the same company that company wouldn't have to charge as much per person to cover the insurance companies costs, sorry if that didn't make any sense, I'm still in High School so I don't really know what I'm talking about.
I was being facetious in my reply. But by plan 1 or plan 1, I meant that it really doesn't matter because all the "different" insurance companies are not all that "different". I know you said you are young, but have you ever checked car insurance prices. In my experience there isn't much difference in the prices. Few hundred a year. If we had only one health care insurance company for profit what do you think they would charge? I think a lot. Kind of what we have now.
People seem upset by the cost of health care, but what about the cost of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan? We've spent ~$900,000,000,000 killing people, and don't want to spend a penny more saving some. Why is protecting ppl from terrorists so much more important than from disease?
This isn't any different than having say, a fire department, or a police station. They are public services that we each pay a little for but we all benefit from if one of us happens to have a fire or needs help from the police. Why does no one say these things are "socialized?"
Don't know about fire departments, but we need a socialized police force. Or else it would be vigilante justice and chaos. No one would enforce the law.
See but why does everyone call his health care plan socialism but don't point out all the other things we have that are "socialized?" This word socialism needs to die because that's not what Obama is. I'm not a huge fan of Obama but he is far from a socialist.
Because health insurance has been primarily capitalist for a while. For example, look at USPS. The USPS is socialized shipping. The USPS is one of the most inefficient shipping methods you could use in this country. Look at FedEx and UPS. Those are capitalized shipping companies. They are much more efficient than USPS, and our tax dollars aren't spent on those companies either.
@blueboar1986 - quite right, USPS phased out any tax help in the 80s and has been running purely on revenue since. Which is why shipping costs keep going up and they have had to close post offices xD
Another thing, you can't be socialist or capitalist. Some are more socialist than others, some are more capitalist than others. And Obama, is indeed more socialist than others. There is nothing wrong with that, but it's the truth. Socialism isn't bad or wrong. Each has their own pros and cons. They are just different.
Honestly, it's not the word that's the problem. it's what's between the lines that bothers people. people seem to think that socialism=communism=extremist communist government. they fail to realise that one way doesn't necessarily mean 'all the way'. These guys need to understand Democratic Socialism, best of both worlds!!
socialism,I don't agree with this system, but its not new as he is saying its been introduced before, I am assuming it will come at some cost to us, and wont necessarily be free.Just a system where everyone is required to have health care under law like the car insurance. Must have.
if Obama tells the truth and illegals don't recieve the healthcare. I could see this working in the long run (after the political powers fluctuate and people tweak it to better fit). However, My constant distruct in any government (republican, democratic, independant) leaves me to believe that any compromise wouldn't work well and too many people have spiteful motives on both sides.
The health care in the Uk is shit they dont treat u properly and just give you the cheapest medication an hope your problems get better. Also we pay thought it with our taxes anyways.
that may be true in your area...but here in the good ol'IS of A - people literally DIE with NO health care...1000's every yr..who go untreated, cause they can't afford the basics.....I only make 32k yr - and have no problem paying a bit xtra tax if everyone in America has health care...but hey,Im not greedy..like 90% of americans!
48% tax already taken out of our pay checks, this health system is going to destroy our economy, think for a second if the elderly health care racked up about billions yearly, what will this do. and socializing health care is not perfect world, it would take you 100 times longer to be treated, because of the free health care, more and more people would go to the doctors more often, even if they really did not need to.
I'm the US citizen who can't afford the co-pay for his insurance (which is about to run out.) Recently I was injured on my bicycle that laid me up from work for a couple of weeks.
Just because there are flaws with the proposed system doesn't mean we should overlook the flaws of the current system. What's further is that each country has its own healthcare system, and it is unlikely that the US will clone Canada or the UK. Why not try to take what's beneficial form theirs?
yes! man, all this talk about socialism and stuff, seriously. people need to do some research. you don't think that this current government already uses some ideals of socialism? it has, for years. this country has never been any single system, but a combination of ideals, that's all. also, big difference between socialism and communism. it sucks that people think it's the same thing. please go do some research and decide for yourself! (psychology/sociology double major.)
I don't get all the hate on health care reform. Everyone's saying that socialized medicine will ruin this country well, look around, bucko; we're not in great shape now.
Besides, socialism is the government providing for its people the very lowest amount possible for them to survive. It's the sort of thing that helps keep revolutionaries in check. As long as we have something, we have something to lose. Otherwise, the masses can be brought to a boiling point. Has nobody ever read a book?
This is a really good point. The only times when countries turn towards extremist governments (e.g. italy, germany and russia) are when the nations in bad shape and yet the governments don't do enough to help them. If they centralize their wing policies even a little, it could be enough to discourage extremists from rash revolutions.
For the record, the actual proposed bill DOESN'T grant Free Healthcare. That's just sort of a scare tactic used by right wingers to make us think we're going the way of the UK, when it'd be safer to say we're going the way of France. Less socialized than Canada, basically.
our free healthcare isn't going to cover immigrants at least not illegal. you have to be a full citizen of the U.S. so if someone comes in from another country and they're here on like a visa or waiting to get citizenship i believe it won't cover them.
Funny video, Mark, but where did you get the notion of "FREE" Health Care? Nothing in the Health Care Reform proposals say anything about FREE. Affordable, yes. Free, never going to happen....
you are quite right. somebody has to pay for this healthcare. so mark, you paying taxes will end up going to this healthcare system. nothing "free" about it
Figure out why it costs $40.00 for a single aspirin, during a hospital stay, and then tell me you want this government to have more control over health care.
... Whats with the American mindset of "High taxes and free health care is Communist!". Nearly every developed country in the world fucking does it, face it Yankees.
...the weirdest thing to me in this debate is that I simply can't understand the opposition...I can usually understand what the debate is about, but someone says, "Hey, I have an idea, how about you don't have to pay to get your life saved?" and the guy across from person #1 says "No way! My life should be given an dollar amount or else it's government messing with my business!"
A slight adjustment to your hypothetical argument might make it make more sense: someone says, "Hey, I have an idea, how about you don't have to pay to get your life saved?" and the guy across from person #1 says "No way! Life should be given an dollar amount, it makes good business!"
Why is Obama getting heckled wherever he goes and Bush was not? Because Obama is open to differing points of view whereas Bush would have dissenters escorted to "free speech zones" and then pepper sprayed if they got too rowdy.
But NO ONE should have to suffer Freebird ever again.
Take care of your own health care! Great idea! unless you're really poor, then you can take care of your last will and testament after you contract an easily curable disease that your insurance won't cover...duuurp
How do you take care of your own healthcare when you're run down by a hit and run drunk driver and left for dead in a ditch? Do you really think I should pay for an ambulance or paramedic to come pick you up? At my expense?
No, I don't think you should pay for my health care if that happened. I think the if I am hit by a drunk driver, the drunk driver should pay for my health care.
it's called restitution, and we already have it.
And if they don't find the guy, tough. Guess I'm paying some bills, huh?
Why is it my job to pay for your health? I don't even know you.
I'd have to disagree with this. The purpose of a government is to represent and run the affairs of the citizens in question. in my opinion, if they aren't assisting their citizens the they aren't doing their jobs.
Those other countries have taken huge steps to keep costs down, and it's still on the verge of overwhelming them.
Until we seriously address costs, we can't afford to "give" it to millions of people. It's been reported that malpractice insurance costs from $80,000 to $250,000/yr. Those other countries don't have that cost.
Do you think the Democrats are going to take on the trial lawyers?
Absolutely, the USA is the only developed nation on earth apart from south africa that does'nt have some form of 'socialized medicine'. These countries are not communist, or in many cases not even socialist. Anyone who calls obamas health plan communist has no understanding of what communism actually is!
For crying out loud, it's such a misrepresentation to say "Socialized medicine is a free ride." No, it's an attempt to use economies of scale to provide a basic necessity for living to its populace at a less expensive cost. There is a social benefit to having citizens have health care-just like there's a social benefit to having roads and infrastructure. Someone pays for it, sure, but that doesn't mean it doesn't pay off.
That dumbass bitch would still say she supports Obama..."its the GOP's fault that I cant afford my mortgage and gas and groceries!!! Obama be tryin to help us poor folk, but them nasty racist white Republicans be stopping him!!!"
Even though the Dems be havin da majority in both houses!
Lmao! Democrats claim that Obama is out to help the middle class and poor... HAHA. All he has done is give bailouts to the RICH! I think they are confused... I haven't seen him do anything for them yet. Somehow, it always comes back to being the republicans fault!
There you go... now you are catching on! Thought he was for "change?" Thought he was all for helping middle class and the poor? Thought he was all about ending the war and having troops come home AS SOON as he took office?
Relyt22... It's time to stop pulling the Bush card. It never makes a good argument.
If Congress passes free health care gold prices will probably go up. Makes sense, since Bernanke will probably have to print the money for it and who wants dollars with a steadily increasing TP quotient?
Had you given this portrayal of a Repubilcan on the big silver screen you would be a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination! I wish I could give you more than a paltry 5 stars but alas.
Well if you run into a person who watches Fox News every night, let me know, since that isn't me.
I'm a guy who knows a Canadian girl who, under their "free" health care system, can't get her illness diagnosed (even though she's losing her sight) and can't get a second opinion. I know a Candian man who is on sixteen different pills, but can't get a job.
I'm also a man who has SEEN the British "free" health care system up close and personal.
Your "facts" sound a lot like anecdotal evidence and bad luck. I'm sorry about your friends.
I live near Canada and have studied extensively in the UK, so I've seen both systems up close. Both of them function at acceptable levels while costing considerably less than the US model.
But why even look at either system? The model that is being so hotly debated is much closer to the German or Swiss models than either of the two you mentioned. Every version has its flaws. America's just has more.
"Acceptable" if you want a tax burden that will eventually cause a massive ecnomoic crash and don't take good care of the citizenry in the meantime. Sounds like you're viewing your own experience through rose colored glasses.
But, it's no matter. Even after that outburst by dimwit Wilson, what we'll get is a watered down compromise bill that will, again, increase the tax burden.
And if you go back to my first post, you'll see I acknoledged that our current system is flawed.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I pay enough in taxes already, why should I pay for people who don't get their own health care. Besides, I don't want to wait a month just to get in to see a family doctor. Screw nationalized health care.
You should pay for people who don't get their own healthcare because they could DIE otherwise. Is it really too much to ask of society to take care of each other's basic needs? I'm sure christ would agree if he existed
Some people have the ability to get it yet are too lazy to go get it. They want everything handed to them. These people don't deserve to get free healthcare. Now there are many people that do, such as the homeless(for the most part) and those physically or mentally unable to get a job or otherwise have a steady source of income.
Only if it's done right.

Theycallmetomu 2 years ago
our free healthcare isn't going to cover immigrants at least not illegal. you have to be a full citizen of the U.S. so if someone comes in from another country and they're here on like a visa or waiting to get citizenship i believe it won't cover them.
RockSymphonyLove 2 years ago
Funny video, Mark, but where did you get the notion of "FREE" Health Care? Nothing in the Health Care Reform proposals say anything about FREE. Affordable, yes. Free, never going to happen....
gryphonshire 2 years ago
you are quite right. somebody has to pay for this healthcare. so mark, you paying taxes will end up going to this healthcare system. nothing "free" about it

...the weirdest thing to me in this debate is that I simply can't understand the opposition...I can usually understand what the debate is about, but someone says, "Hey, I have an idea, how about you don't have to pay to get your life saved?" and the guy across from person #1 says "No way! My life should be given an dollar amount or else it's government messing with my business!"
DamNationDiplomat 2 years ago
A slight adjustment to your hypothetical argument might make it make more sense: someone says, "Hey, I have an idea, how about you don't have to pay to get your life saved?" and the guy across from person #1 says "No way! Life should be given an dollar amount, it makes good business!"

Why is Obama getting heckled wherever he goes and Bush was not? Because Obama is open to differing points of view whereas Bush would have dissenters escorted to "free speech zones" and then pepper sprayed if they got too rowdy.
But NO ONE should have to suffer Freebird ever again.

RadicalPaddy 2 years ago
How do you take care of your own healthcare when you're run down by a hit and run drunk driver and left for dead in a ditch? Do you really think I should pay for an ambulance or paramedic to come pick you up? At my expense?
jx14aby 2 years ago
No, I don't think you should pay for my health care if that happened. I think the if I am hit by a drunk driver, the drunk driver should pay for my health care.
it's called restitution, and we already have it.
And if they don't find the guy, tough. Guess I'm paying some bills, huh?
Why is it my job to pay for your health? I don't even know you.
HeadoftheHydra 2 years ago
That's why I said hit and run.
Everyone I know expects to have a cop, fireman, or paramedic come screaming to their door if they call 911.
jx14aby 2 years ago
Firefighters are mostly volunteer, not government employees. Paramedics are mostly private.
HeadoftheHydra 2 years ago
"Firefighters are mostly volunteer."
These numbers are from my city's 2008 budget:
Fire 9,286,645
Paramedics 3,497,637
Alhambra, CA.
jx14aby 2 years ago
And? They're still mostly volunteer. Just because one city has a lot of paid fire-fighters doesn't mean everyone does.
My city's all ARE volunteer.

The paramedics mostly private,eh- That explains why I got charged over 800 dollars after calling 911 some years ago, just for the ride.

I'd have to disagree with this. The purpose of a government is to represent and run the affairs of the citizens in question. in my opinion, if they aren't assisting their citizens the they aren't doing their jobs.

Socialism will NOT prevail.
bucs2921 2 years ago
it has prevailed in alot of countries
Manekdk 2 years ago
Those other countries have taken huge steps to keep costs down, and it's still on the verge of overwhelming them.
Until we seriously address costs, we can't afford to "give" it to millions of people. It's been reported that malpractice insurance costs from $80,000 to $250,000/yr. Those other countries don't have that cost.
Do you think the Democrats are going to take on the trial lawyers?
klrdotorg 2 years ago
Absolutely, the USA is the only developed nation on earth apart from south africa that does'nt have some form of 'socialized medicine'. These countries are not communist, or in many cases not even socialist. Anyone who calls obamas health plan communist has no understanding of what communism actually is!
Themixedtwits 2 years ago 2
Neither will free market capitalism.

This person likely watches Fox News every night and doesn't pay attention to facts.
Kind of sad, really, that the conservative rumor mill actually reads "truth" to some people.
do0rdie7 2 years ago
Well if you run into a person who watches Fox News every night, let me know, since that isn't me.
I'm a guy who knows a Canadian girl who, under their "free" health care system, can't get her illness diagnosed (even though she's losing her sight) and can't get a second opinion. I know a Candian man who is on sixteen different pills, but can't get a job.
I'm also a man who has SEEN the British "free" health care system up close and personal.
Fox has nothing to do with it. Facts do.
RealArcalian 2 years ago
Your "facts" sound a lot like anecdotal evidence and bad luck. I'm sorry about your friends.
I live near Canada and have studied extensively in the UK, so I've seen both systems up close. Both of them function at acceptable levels while costing considerably less than the US model.
But why even look at either system? The model that is being so hotly debated is much closer to the German or Swiss models than either of the two you mentioned. Every version has its flaws. America's just has more.
do0rdie7 2 years ago
"Acceptable" if you want a tax burden that will eventually cause a massive ecnomoic crash and don't take good care of the citizenry in the meantime. Sounds like you're viewing your own experience through rose colored glasses.
But, it's no matter. Even after that outburst by dimwit Wilson, what we'll get is a watered down compromise bill that will, again, increase the tax burden.
And if you go back to my first post, you'll see I acknoledged that our current system is flawed.

I'm sure christ would agree if he existed
livesimply 2 years ago
Some people have the ability to get it yet are too lazy to go get it. They want everything handed to them. These people don't deserve to get free healthcare. Now there are many people that do, such as the homeless(for the most part) and those physically or mentally unable to get a job or otherwise have a steady source of income.
lychanking 2 years ago
lychanking - Yeah but why a complete Government takover just to give - How many homeless people could there be in the US?
Our country cannot afford free health care.
