@zee729 This was the last song the Marketts recorded as the original group with Michael Z. Gordon, Randy Viers, Lynn Frazier, Hal Bleich and Scott Engel. The later songs were not the original Marketts and called themselves the New Marketts but they were just a bunch of studio musicians. Many of the original group also played as The Routers. The Marketts biggest hit was Out Of Limits which was composed by the leader, Mike Gordon. Gordon also wrote Surfer's Stomp, their first big hit.
@michaelzstuff Actually this is Carol Kaye on bass, Tommy Tedesco on guitar, and Hal Blaine on drums. Carol is a legendary bass player and played on many of the Beach Boys tracks as well. Carol states that she was called to do this session at 4 AM the day the TV show premiered and demo tapes were brought to radio stations and it was on air later that morning.
@19cassidy65 I don't remember Carol on that session but I'm glad that she does.. Her memory is probably 100 times better than mine. However I could never forget the great musicians that I worked with including Tommy and Hal on many, many sessions including Outer Limits and Let's Go, both big hits for us.. I have so many of my songs that popped up on Youtube that I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't even remember writing, let alone producing them including Big Man by Barbara Jackson.
FINALLY someone uploaded it! I had this in the late 60s, and I can still see the orange label going round and round. May have had a Warner Bros. logo, but I couldn't swear to that.
What I do remember most while listening to Richie's Theme is that the label had a right-pointing diamond arrow all along the edge. So fascinating the quirky tricks that memory plays, and how the sound of the song can pull out a memory buried for 30 years.
@60sThru80s: Your memory IS correct about the label...it was on Warner Bros. (at the time, their 45 label was orange with diamond shapes all around the edge).
The Marketts, the Monkees, and most 60's bands were the Wrecking Crew. 99 and 44/100 % of every recording, regardless of whether the label said Marketts, Monkees, Phil Spector, Bacharach, Beach Boys, Byrds, Doors, Association, 5th Dimension, Ventures, Sinatra, Dean martin, Etc. was just The Wrecking Crew, fronted by various singers, rarely augmented by additional musicians like a Manzurek or Krieger. No 60's -early 70"s record / TV theme was made in LA without the Wrecking Crew at it's core.
@dobod2 Let's keep in mind that Ventures and the Doors were strong bands in their own right, whether the WC played on their albums or not. These bands were no Monkees (and I dig the Monkees). I know that Hal Blaine and Tommy Tedesco have claimed credit for Ventures recordings where the union record sheets show that Mel Taylor and Nokie Edwards did the playing, so let's not undercut the considerable talent of the originals.
Up to 2:33, this was the original Marketts Batman Theme as I remember it. From 2:34, this was the flip side, entitled "Richies Theme", a great song in it's own right. Thanks Sids, for posting this one.
@Sids60sSounds I remember having the Marketts' Batman album (which my darling little brothers destroyed utterly) back around 1967. It was filled with cool Bat-tracks like "The Batmobile," "The Batcave," and "Robin, the Boy Wonder." I wonder if there's any chance of seeing these posted one day?
@Sids60sSounds A friend of mine managed to find the record at a garage sale for $3 this summer, and got it for me as a gift, as I'm a huge Batman fan. Sadly though, I don't have a way to get the audio from the vinyl onto my PC. Rest assured though, if/when I have the means to do so, I'm posting the whole thing
@Sids60sSounds I'll try not to! I have to find a deck first! I was only able to listen to it because a friend of mine found a deck for $40 in a pawn shop. I do not own one myself, and finding one here in South Korea could be a pain. I'll do my best though!
Nice 1 great tunes for the Batmobile :) . x
