For me, I was in my early teens in 1982-83. Those were the years that built a foundation on my life, and it took ~25 years for the 4 original Asia guys to get back. Guys like Payne, Armand Pineda (new Journey singer), Kelly Hansen (new Foreigner singer), and Ray Wilson (the guy who took Phil Collins' place) are fine singers, but can never replace the true sound I grew up with. Yes, Perry wasn't Journey's original singer nor Collins Genesis', but those 70's and 80's songs were of MY LIFE,
Saw Asia at the Kentish Town Forum & I loved the way the Video for this song was intersperced with shots of them now. Time has not been kind to so many people, myself included.

I couldn't agree with you more. The guy sucked...and anyone with any taste at all in music knows that. He is a talentless turd of glam metal shit. There NEVER was an Asia from 1991-2005. It was a cheap cover band. Some of these people insult my intelligence
This is really funny, but wherever someone say I still prefer John Payne rather than Wetton. And the thing is all of this are just opinions and the opinions never can be the same, But there are some people that like their opinion over the other is the correct.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It is ALWAYS tough when you change the lead singer of a ANY group. You really change the sound.
The only time it really works is if you have a group like the Beatles or Eagles where a few guys can sing and the fans get used to it in the beginning.
Astra was a good album but you could tell something was missing in the sound when Howe wasn't there. They are easily a group that is the sum of its parts.
Well, I got into Asia with Wetton, even when they released Astra, with just 4 0 5 fans. After Payne absolutely kicked ass as a singer. In fact, most non commercial music was made in Payne's tenure (1992-2006). I like Wetton but Payne is more artist, more artesan and less commercial and played longer than Wetton so far, so he is as much a member as everyone else.

They took approximately 15 years to learn how interact themselves to avoid their discrepances and come back. During those years John Payne and Geoff Downes were playing and maintaining Asia alive. For me the Payne era was the best, but apparently for them no.
I agree that the Payne era was the best. I am going to their concert here in Sofia on 22 March, and may know better after that. Regards from Bulgaria!
All right... I was at their show last night. And enjoyed it very much. There was 'Roundabout' and 'The Court of the Crimson King' among their original and new stuff. Steve was brillaint, as always. A great show indeed!

hey at this concert was the snair on the drums to loud and it kinda drownd out the other stuff? cause at the concert i say i mean it was awsome but the drums were over powering

Whatever you do, look up that drum solo, and then watch that 4 part interview he gave, this year. Awesome. Absolutely AWESOME!
Hey, I am only stating the obvious, "Thumbs down" only indicates that you misunderstand what I am saying. He has been my inspiration as a drummer since I was 19, I'm now 53. It's sad to see him take a back seat to people when he could do so much more!
Carl Palmer is still an immensely energetic and entertaining drummer. I loved watching him this tour, more so than the couple of times I saw Neil Peart and Rush. Palmer's just THE MAN!

We just figured out who 2 of the 5 fans were for the Payne years.
Payne's songs were different but his voice sounded VERY cookie cutter. He sounded like a glam metal singer crossing over to prog.

Yes, Payne did very much for Asia. But original era was something incredible. They came together, made some immortal stuff, and split up.

I LOVE Asia and this is one of the songs that got me into the band to begin with but the live versions don't do it justice.

I think Carl Palmer has seen his better days as an outstanding drummer. He can't even play this simple stuff the way he did in the 80's. How sad.
