@24gwen24 Daniel Day Lewis adopts whatever accent is needed. He has a great Irish accent in many films, not just this though...he does the accent of both Dublin and Belfast, which are very different to my ear and he does it perfect. He's just a great actor, same as Idris Elba. By the way Mc Nulty is English and the mayor is Irish in the wire.
