LOVE the "Dark Adventure Radio Theater" adaptation of this, and although this looks like it is a little loose with the adaptation, it will be nice to see. It's nice to see Lovecraft appreciated and as a source for other creativity. Can't wait to get the DVD to make up my own mind.
@MyThirdUserAccount maybe it's becuase you have dicks in your eyes ya coack whore i bet you have dildos as airbags and you allways crash into shit on the street ya fagot....your license plate says cockblaster
@pete6963 judging by your post you strike me as an angry, sad little, spastic, cock-on-the-brain, punkass closet-case. I'm betting the unnecessary gay sex, which was my cue to immediately drill the dvd out my 3rd story apt window, made this your favorite film; thus causing my negative opinion to spark your aggressive homosexual nature. Its clear from your post you're obsessed with cock, so if you strike others as a 10/10 on the fag scale you probably shouldn't go calling ppl queer. you lose.
@MyThirdUserAccount hey just becuase you chew on ball sacks 24/7 dosent mean i'm the looser here kiddo, so keep you fagot comments to your self and keep a dick in your mouth becuase no one wants to hear you and no good madam (i'm assumeing from all the pointless bitching that your a woman) i am not a fag a fag is a bundle of sticks, or a British cigarette, or in this case a troll like you who thinks there all that ... so there for on the "fag scale" you madam are in correct...like most bitches
@pete6963 Lol, what a pathetic, stupid shit you are. Never before has there trolled such a useless little closet-case, then you created your account. Do the world a favor, take two steps back from your precious little computer and go fuck your own face. Then read my response twice, because it applies just as well to your second homosexual comment as it did to your first one. Stop spouting your angry faggot troll speech and go kill yourself. You don't deserve my words. Goddamn fag-spaz-troll.
MyThirdUserAccount Hey kiddo fucking my own face is impossible and "take two steps back from your precious little computer and go fuck your own face." is a quote from a movie so it shows that your complete bastard.. cant even think of your own insults how lame ... and another thing when the fuck did your computer make it into the kitchen? bitch get back to work pretty sure the food is burning becuase you suck more dong than a whore so no bitch stfu YOU go kill YOURSELF that will be more usefull
@pete6963 It still wows me how confidently you flaunt your colossal stupidity. Dumb punk little virgin teen spaz who can't stop talking about cock for 5 seconds... what a waste of life & space, how dare you use my air. You don't only deserve my words, but my acknowledgement you pathetic little loser. I normally don't even respond to posts this void of point or reason but your high level of angry closet homosexuality & low level of IQ is just... scientifically fascinating... it makes me lol
@pete6963 Thus any further homosexually undertoned, sexually confused, spewings from your cocksucker can simply be ignored by myself and viewed upon by all as another desperate attempt for human interaction. To put it in terms you'll understand: Cock, Cock, Get a fucking life, I'm out kiddo, bake me a pie cunt. (minus the spelling errors you usually entail). Now STFU you irritating little cunt scab.
@TheBeefyWizard35 It's a trailer, maybe they do show it in the movie. I think the main reason they rarely do is because if they did show it, the great chaos god would either be portrayed with a man in a suit or bad CGI effects.

pretty much the reason Guillermo del Toro hasnt made a film for "at the mountains of madness", budget was to big for a movie with no happy ending or love scenes
still hopen though...
thing at the doorstep would make a great suspense movie.
Uh...actually having a gay main character is extremely lovecraftian. All of his main characters never have any sexual interactions with females/ show any care for them. Also lovecraft was a pretty asexual person himself. Althouh he was married (and he got seperated) it was always speculated that he was asexual/ homosexual...
basfaratu, in fact, I actually said that because of the -indeed- eminent asexuality surrounding his works (and his person). So, with respect, I wouldn't describe the fact of having a gay main character as extremely lovecraftian. Of course he haven't cared much about females in his live, but you know, he simply had that behavior about humankind in general. Furthermore, in all his poems, only one can be described as romantic and it clearly features him (first person) versus a woman... ;)
TwaletBrush, firstly, just cause he does have one romantic poem with versus a woman does not classify his sexual preferences in the slightest. The reason his works portray this asexuality/ homosexuality is because of his tenancy and preference of male characteres. Furthermore this disdain for humankind you pupport him as having is not true, as you may know he had MANY male friends which he cared deeply for, eg. August Derleth
Well 1st -I'm not saying that this isn't a possibility (if this is what you wanna hear) but you should notice that his characters just reflect himself most of the time.
2nd -Haven't you ever read bibliographies or similar stuff about him?! His friends (which he almost never met) were just the exception that confirmed the rule! I can't believe I have to remind you that...
excuse my lateness in this reply. I have been pre occupied with more pressing matters. Your earlier statements make it very hard to believe that you have conisederd this 'homosexual possibility', as you say 'in all his poems, only one can be described as romantic and it clearly features him (first person) versus a woman', pushing on your belief of his non-homosexual beliefs. Secondly, in regards to his supposed "disdain" for human kind, if his characters 'reflect himself most of the time' then
it should be noted then that commonly they have HEROIC tenancies, in which they try to assist, or defer the various forms of eveil they witness, saving the forms of life you suppose that he hates. Furthermore, if his characters also represent himself, it should be noted that throughout his stories, which often involve tales that are supposed to span years.
The MALE characters very seldomly talk, think, or even relate to members of the other sex, although they do seek out and come into contact members of the same sex (male). I assume your smart enough to know that this is not the thought process of the typical human mind, which Lovecraft always tries to portray.
Thus your frustration of having to remind me, of Lovecraft's relationships is a totally rediculous statement. You should come to terms with the realities, which you so ignorantly reject:
1) Lovecraft was not particularly upset about his divorce, though deeply distraut about the deaths of his male friends.
2) He did indeed have friends, and did not have a hatred for mankind, as even YOU said that his characters reflect his attitudes, and often heroic or saviour actions imitate his own feelings
I didn't rejected his lack of care about his divorce, the simple fact that he got married was even astonishing to my opinion, he was a harcore solitary, and had very limited contact with women. That was too obvious; I could never say the opposite. Still, I've clearly read that his official position was definitely conservative about sexuality. (I know what u'll think, but that still is a clear moral position!) Please don't be arrogant: I did not "so ignorantly" rejected any of this!
I'm curious about the examples you could give me about these "heroic saviour actions"... His characters are indeed good men, not to say gentlemen, but his style uses that old trick simply to get a better contrast when it comes to placing them in front of the famous unspeakable terrors taking place in all of his stories! Also, have you read some work from his favorite authors? Many are british, which, generally speaking, always features a tight circle of good ol'WASP gentlemen, you know...
And about his feelings for mankind, well, lets make it simple: Would a guy writing stories where humanity is always doomed and under danger, where none of the scenarios ends in hope, really like it? mmm, sounds a bit weird to me... At best he didn't gave a shit, don't you think? He had, indeed, a few very dear friends, but as I said; that's the exception that confirms the rule.
I don't want to start a war. Please, be friendly... that was just my point of view, alright? ;)
Its odd twaletbrush, that many of your statments only seem to further develop my point. His shamble of a marriage is clearly evident of his lack of interest in his wife. Also, just because his official position was conservative about sexuality does not mean he wasn't homosexual. Look at T.S Elliot for example, a man who clearly battled with his homosexual urges his entire life, while trying to maintain his straight orientation. And my friend, as for examples: it is present in too many of his
stories. The biggest example would have to be The Call of the Cthulhu, in which the whole story is narrated by a man trying to create a document that will be used later to save man against this dreadfull beast from the stars. It even ends with Lovecraft saying "Let me pray that, if I do not survive this manuscript, my executors may put caution before audacity and see that it meets no others eye". Or also seen in The Dunwich Horror, in which Lovecraft states "I'm going to burn his accursed diary
,[as]things like that brough down the beings those Whateleys were so fond of". These endings are purposely placed in a doomed setting to display a level of care, and that the world was a bad place, but the efforts of some could save it. Don't call me arrogant, as you were the first to make a childish comment saying that you "cant beleive have to remind me" etc. I'm not starting a war with you, but so far you have presented no evidence from any text, and furthermore need to improve your grammar.
Well I can clarify two things about me: I haven't brought you text evidence 'cause most of my reading are in french (although I did read some of his work in english, it's just that they're hard to get around here) so it would've been kinda tricky to quote stuff from my books. You also now understand that french is my native language so, not speaking english frequently, I might have done some mistakes indeed, i'm sorry...
Also, earlier, I honestly didn't mean to be childish at all, it was just that the point about which we disagreed was something so obvious to me that I couldn't understand why you couldn't see it my way, that's all. On the other hand, if many of my statements seem to speak your way, I think it shows that we're simply misunderstanding each others about the original subject: All I tried to say is (I think) that our beloved Lovecraft
wouldn't have accepted to place a main character being obviously homosexual in his works. Period. Why? mainly 'cause of his cultural background and conservative positions. I wasn't saying he couldn't have been gay, I just know he never confessed such a position, even in his numerous correspondences. Finally; about his love for humanity: He wasn't able to bear the presence in his country of anyone that wasn't snow white... Among others you probably have heard about his comments on black peoples?
they're a bit hard to swallow, just like his prose poem describing strangers omnipresence in NY city. Furthermore, his friends aren't "that" numerous, still, they are very very dear. He has never met most of them. He doesn't seem to feel much need for a life companion. He sleeps during the day, writes or walks alone in Providence's streets at night.
Those are anti-social symptoms. That's some of the facts that bring me to see him as such, you know. You may disagree, I'll respect that. ; )
Okay TwaletBrush, I will address this simply then:
1)Even if you havent provided me with textual evidence, you still havent provided me with much SPECIFIC evidence from his stories.
2)I am half black, and I know about his hatred for black people. This is completely irrelevant though as we have seen numerous times throughout history that just because you have a dislike for a certain race does not mean you do not like humanity (eg. Hitler, KKK, which are all groups who in fact embrace life,
3) furthermore, fine if you want forget all that stuff about his friends: you still ignored my EVIDENCE that I gave you from his stories, of his stories with an overall savoir tone. I'm not saying he loved humanity, but he did care enough to add a tone to his stories that showed that he wanted to save what was left after these monstrous abhorations.
I think we should just agree to disagree, because this is not going to go any where.
I know, this is what I tried to suggest earlier... I'm okay with you thinking differently. I'd just like to mention that I didn't wanted to ignore your "evidence". It's more that I would've had to write at least two other entries to explain my view in details, while I'm almost sure that it wouldn't have changed a thing to your perception. If you really want to hear much, write me personally please, 'cause I think we've loaded this comment section enough for now. I'm sure we can agree on that!
Thank you for your your being okay with my thinking differently (thats sarcasm if you cant tell). I won't message you because frankly this is such a waste of time and energy. Your comments, though loaded, remain devoid of substance. In other words- suck my dick (bitch).
Why do people feel like they can exploit the name of Cthulu? What fucking arrogance! What fucking Gawl! Leave lovecraft alone, you fucking hacks! You can not touch his fucking brilliance!!! All you want to do is make a cheesey horror flick, fine! Do that! But do you have to take a big ol' giant shit in the punch bowl? Why coudn't you just call this something else?
This look like total bullshit, Lovecraft fans have been waiting for a truly good and faithful movie and everyone so far seems to suck. Tori Spelling? what the fuck? suddenly in The Music of Erich Zann they're gonna cast Nikki Hilton, what the fuck? Simply stupid
there are several. First on the list if you dont know would be to check out The Call of Cthulhu. Unlike this piece of (appearently) shit, Cthulhu is in it. Also check out the Shunned House (3 in 1), Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, and HPLHS is making a new film, an adapation of Whisperer in Darkness.
damnnnn u know where i can buy em or download em online dude? i would really love that, but ive only read the call of cthulhu, which was one of my favorites
I could be wrong, but judging from the trailer the movie seems to lack, among other things, the necessary atmosphere for a lovecraft-inspired flick. Its like they completely missed the point.
im a newbie at lovecraft but i think the real horro is what happens because of cthulhu and not him because he and the old ones are locked somewhere my friens bought me a book with lovecraft stories :)))THIS MOVIE IS GONNA SUCK SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!UUUUHHH
....why must they do this to my favorite horror authors works?
anyone who read the book knows that the shadow over innsmouth and call of cthulhu are different stories. and this looks like shit. call of cthulhu needs 3 things. scary mood, violence and of course cthulhu....
which of course a movie this low budget wont ever produce.....please..is it so much to ask for one person to make a cthulhu based movie and know what the fuck their doing?
Cthulhu didn't make a direct appearance in The Shadow Over Innsmouth, so I would be dissapointed if he did in this version of that story.
For die hard Lovecraft fans, the only movie I've seen which I would recommend is Call of Cthulhu 2005, which is both silent and black & white. It is superb.
Another bulls*it movie supposedly "based" on lovecraft, but as always not even a bit near to the original stories, cheesy, bad acting, bad scripting, bad filming, bad bad bad... as a big lovecraft fan i dont even feel a bit excited with this trailer... just looking at the cast (tori spelling?! c´mon!) know what to expect from this big BS.
I'm a newbie to HP Lovecraft's stories, but this thing is being loosely based on "The shadow over Innsmourth". I'm not sure wether Cthulhu will actually have anything to do with the plot. Could someone tell me?
I don't think 'Cthulhu' will make an appearance in the film. Instead, I think it's one of those 'psycho-dramas' with the belief that not showing the monster is supposed to be far more scarier. The problem is that Tori Spelling is in the movie, and I think she's far more scarier than of the Old Ones.
LOVE the "Dark Adventure Radio Theater" adaptation of this, and although this looks like it is a little loose with the adaptation, it will be nice to see. It's nice to see Lovecraft appreciated and as a source for other creativity. Can't wait to get the DVD to make up my own mind.

I'm no fan of Tori Spelling, she's a truly terrible actress who only gets work because her dad had money and influence in LA.
However, in this case she is perfectly cast as she has probably the most perfect case of 'The Innsmouth Look' that I have ever seen.
They must have saved a fortune in make-up by hiring her.

Saw this flick. Dagon pull it off way better. But seriously, why not just call it The Shadow Over Innsmouth?
And you guys discussing HPL's tendencies might want to read the L. Sprage de Camp biography.

Uh... if Tori Spelling is in this, that probably sucks... and I heard that the main character was gay, which isn't really lovecraftian I think.
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
Uh...actually having a gay main character is extremely lovecraftian. All of his main characters never have any sexual interactions with females/ show any care for them. Also lovecraft was a pretty asexual person himself. Althouh he was married (and he got seperated) it was always speculated that he was asexual/ homosexual...
basfaratu 3 years ago
basfaratu, in fact, I actually said that because of the -indeed- eminent asexuality surrounding his works (and his person). So, with respect, I wouldn't describe the fact of having a gay main character as extremely lovecraftian. Of course he haven't cared much about females in his live, but you know, he simply had that behavior about humankind in general. Furthermore, in all his poems, only one can be described as romantic and it clearly features him (first person) versus a woman... ;)
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
TwaletBrush, firstly, just cause he does have one romantic poem with versus a woman does not classify his sexual preferences in the slightest. The reason his works portray this asexuality/ homosexuality is because of his tenancy and preference of male characteres. Furthermore this disdain for humankind you pupport him as having is not true, as you may know he had MANY male friends which he cared deeply for, eg. August Derleth
basfaratu 3 years ago
Well 1st -I'm not saying that this isn't a possibility (if this is what you wanna hear) but you should notice that his characters just reflect himself most of the time.
2nd -Haven't you ever read bibliographies or similar stuff about him?! His friends (which he almost never met) were just the exception that confirmed the rule! I can't believe I have to remind you that...

TwaletBrush 3 years ago
excuse my lateness in this reply. Secondly, in regards to his supposed "disdain" for human kind, if his characters 'reflect himself most of the time' then
basfaratu 3 years ago
it should be noted then that commonly they have HEROIC tenancies, in which they try to assist, or defer the various forms of eveil they witness, saving the forms of life you suppose that he hates. Furthermore, if his characters also represent himself, it should be noted that throughout his stories, which often involve tales that are supposed to span years.
basfaratu 3 years ago
The MALE characters very seldomly talk, think, or even relate to members of the other sex, although they do seek out and come into contact members of the same sex (male). I assume your smart enough to know that this is not the thought process of the typical human mind, which Lovecraft always tries to portray.
basfaratu 3 years ago
Thus your frustration of having to remind me, of Lovecraft's relationships is a totally rediculous statement. You should come to terms with the realities, which you so ignorantly reject:
1) Lovecraft was not particularly upset about his divorce, though deeply distraut about the deaths of his male friends.
2) He did indeed have friends, and did not have a hatred for mankind, as even YOU said that his characters reflect his attitudes, and often heroic or saviour actions imitate his own feelings
basfaratu 3 years ago
I didn't rejected his lack of care about his divorce, the simple fact that he got married was even astonishing to my opinion, he was a harcore solitary, and had very limited contact with women. That was too obvious; I could never say the opposite. Still, I've clearly read that his official position was definitely conservative about sexuality. (I know what u'll think, but that still is a clear moral position!) Please don't be arrogant: I did not "so ignorantly" rejected any of this!
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
I'm curious about the examples you could give me about these "heroic saviour actions"... His characters are indeed good men, not to say gentlemen, but his style uses that old trick simply to get a better contrast when it comes to placing them in front of the famous unspeakable terrors taking place in all of his stories! Also, have you read some work from his favorite authors? Many are british, which, generally speaking, always features a tight circle of good ol'WASP gentlemen, you know...
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
And about his feelings for mankind, well, lets make it simple: Would a guy writing stories where humanity is always doomed and under danger, where none of the scenarios ends in hope, really like it? mmm, sounds a bit weird to me... At best he didn't gave a shit, don't you think? He had, indeed, a few very dear friends, but as I said; that's the exception that confirms the rule.
I don't want to start a war. Please, be friendly... that was just my point of view, alright? ;)
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
Its odd twaletbrush, that many of your statments only seem to further develop my point. His shamble of a marriage is clearly evident of his lack of interest in his wife. Also, just because his official position was conservative about sexuality does not mean he wasn't homosexual. Look at T.S Elliot for example, a man who clearly battled with his homosexual urges his entire life, while trying to maintain his straight orientation. And my friend, as for examples: it is present in too many of his
basfaratu 3 years ago
Or also seen in The Dunwich Horror, in which Lovecraft states "I'm going to burn his accursed diary
basfaratu 3 years ago
,[as]things like that brough down the beings those Whateleys were so fond of". These endings are purposely placed in a doomed setting to display a level of care, and that the world was a bad place, but the efforts of some could save it. Don't call me arrogant, as you were the first to make a childish comment saying that you "cant beleive have to remind me" etc. I'm not starting a war with you, but so far you have presented no evidence from any text, and furthermore need to improve your grammar.
basfaratu 3 years ago
Well I can clarify two things about me: I haven't brought you text evidence 'cause most of my reading are in french (although I did read some of his work in english, it's just that they're hard to get around here) so it would've been kinda tricky to quote stuff from my books. You also now understand that french is my native language so, not speaking english frequently, I might have done some mistakes indeed, i'm sorry...
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
Also, earlier, I honestly didn't mean to be childish at all, it was just that the point about which we disagreed was something so obvious to me that I couldn't understand why you couldn't see it my way, that's all. On the other hand, if many of my statements seem to speak your way, I think it shows that we're simply misunderstanding each others about the original subject: All I tried to say is (I think) that our beloved Lovecraft
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
wouldn't have accepted to place a main character being obviously homosexual in his works. Period. Why? mainly 'cause of his cultural background and conservative positions. I wasn't saying he couldn't have been gay, I just know he never confessed such a position, even in his numerous correspondences. Finally; about his love for humanity: He wasn't able to bear the presence in his country of anyone that wasn't snow white... Among others you probably have heard about his comments on black peoples?
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
they're a bit hard to swallow, just like his prose poem describing strangers omnipresence in NY city.
You may disagree, I'll respect that. ; )
TwaletBrush 3 years ago
Okay TwaletBrush, I will address this simply then:
1)Even if you havent provided me with textual evidence, you still havent provided me with much SPECIFIC evidence from his stories.
2)I am half black, and I know about his hatred for black people. This is completely irrelevant though as we have seen numerous times throughout history that just because you have a dislike for a certain race does not mean you do not like humanity (eg. Hitler, KKK, which are all groups who in fact embrace life,
basfaratu 3 years ago
From their race.
I think we should just agree to disagree, because this is not going to go any where.
basfaratu 3 years ago
I know, this is what I tried to suggest earlier... I'm okay with you thinking differently. I'd just like to mention that I didn't wanted to ignore your "evidence". It's more that I would've had to write at least two other entries to explain my view in details, while I'm almost sure that it wouldn't have changed a thing to your perception. If you really want to hear much, write me personally please, 'cause I think we've loaded this comment section enough for now. I'm sure we can agree on that!
TwaletBrush 3 years ago 3
Thank you for your your being okay with my thinking differently (thats sarcasm if you cant tell). I won't message you because frankly this is such a waste of time and energy. Your comments, though loaded, remain devoid of substance. In other words- suck my dick (bitch).
basfaratu 3 years ago
kurumotsu 3 years ago
Yes well...looks like yet another interpretation of Shadow over Innsmouth. Shame...this looks more and more like a soft-core porno.

so, is Dagon at least in it? Or is this just a bunch of nonsense fit to be ignored?
egdeltur666 4 years ago
The latter...
No monsters make any appearance in this film, including Deep Ones, unless you count their monstrous acting... 'Dagon' was better than this.

Why do people feel like they can exploit the name of Cthulu? What fucking arrogance! What fucking Gawl! Leave lovecraft alone, you fucking hacks! You can not touch his fucking brilliance!!! cuaji51206 4 years ago
there are several.

Its like they completely missed the point.

you can blame Derling, the heir to the mythos after Lovecraft's death. He expanded it to include any mention of the old ones in any books, etc.

EndarianNetherstorm 4 years ago
....why must they do this to my favorite horror authors works?
anyone who read the book knows that the shadow over innsmouth and call of cthulhu are different stories. and this looks like shit. call of cthulhu needs 3 things. scary mood, violence and of course cthulhu....
which of course a movie this low budget wont ever produce.....please..is it so much to ask for one person to make a cthulhu based movie and know what the fuck their doing?

Looks painfully cheap and poorly made. They would have been better setting it in period.

MrBummelum 4 years ago
I don't think 'Cthulhu' will make an appearance in the film. Instead, I think it's one of those 'psycho-dramas' with the belief that not showing the monster is supposed to be far more scarier. The problem is that Tori Spelling is in the movie, and I think she's far more scarier than of the Old Ones.
