Maith thu, a ghraidh. You're doing very well for a beginner with no tuition, but you seriously need to slow down, and get some tuition from an able tutor. Try to get to oneof the Willy Clancy schools or some such.
Also, listen carefully to the great pipers (such as O Floinn). Learning some Irish can also be a help, as every music is driven by its language.
There is also a program that would be useful called Amazing X CD Slowdowner from Roni.
@celt1745 Thank you for your respons. Could you however please consider that this video is recorded three years ago? I'll make sure to update a new recording soon and get rid of this stuff then ;) take care!
Slow down a bit. But absolutely amazing for self taught. For the stock use waxed hemp. You can get it in most fishing shops or from na píobairí uilleann at pipers.ie
Btw is this that English girl from milltown malbay 2011? The 1 with the 1 pound stuck on her d key on the baritone reg? Hi.
Wow! You're totally self-taught? That's incredible! As to the drones slipping out of the stock---and forgive my ignorance; I'm a Scottish piper---can you use hemp twine around the drone boss where it inserts into the stock in order to give you a tighter fit? I'm impressed at any rate. Very nicely done! No one would know you're self-taught from listening to you.
You can find the complete tutorial DVD's from NPU at a decent price. they are very well made considering the age of the material etc dating back a few years or so. Keep up the good work. it takes time to master uilleann pipes as you have to develop an understanding of the instrument, how to control the pressure between octaves, drone and regulator usage. You will make an amazing piper. listen to artists like liam o flynn, davy spillane, seamus ennis and others. get in touch if you wish. lew xx
Well I was thinking of learning the Uilleann pipes. I have been a professional bassoonist and singer. I also play the highland pipes and tin whistle. But after researching Uilleann pipes, I think they are way too complicated for me to take up at my age. My compliments. I wish more of my students had your dedication. It's very comforting to see young people excited about traditional music. Keep up the good work.
If at all possible, I suggest finding a teacher! If you cannot, no problem; there are many different resources available now to help learn (DVD's, CD's, YouTube, books, etc.), but if you can find anyone at all to help you along personally, go for it!
Yeah,I'll try findin' someone aroun' here who actually plays em'...Might be A tad rare aroun' though, plenty O' Great Highland Pipers in Nova Scotia(A wee hours drive),but em' Uilleann's...Not sae much,LoL
I'm considering taking up the Uilleann pipes, I already play Tin Whistle,Bodhrán, mandolin and guitar so I'm no stranger to starting new instruments. However, people always say how difficult the Uilleann pipes are. How true is this? How hard are they and how long have you been playing? Any Advice and answers would be greatfully recieved :)
Hi, yeah it's true what they say: it's a tough instrument to "master".. but that doesn't mean you can't learn to play it. I'd say, if you can play the whistle, there's a fair chance you'll do fine :) Cause I did (at least for where I am now..). Just don't get your hopes up for the first months, cause they are going to be very frustrating :P And here is my advice: BUY ONE, cause you won't feel sorry for one bit: its the most beautiful instrument i've ever played..
Very nice and musical interpretation. Well done. Two hints, though: Watch your fingering on the lower hand (sometimes too "open" on low F, which might give you troubles in the upper octave). Second, try relaxing your grip and movements as you move along. Happy piping!
