I first heard this song at an exhibition called the San Diego Film Fair & Photo Festival. The San Diego State College Art Department put on a multi-media show with this fantastic album as the sound track. With six slide projectors paired with dissolver units on three huge screens, they danced beautiful "mood" enhancing images across screens so big, they filled the end of a huge meeting hall. At one point they blacked out the center screen and showed a short motion picture film. Fantastic!
Exactly how does one go about the task of measuring "the power of ten billion butterfly sneezes" ?
Ah the majesty of Moody Blues lyricism. It makes listening to songs like 'Legend of the Mind', 'Twilight Time' and 'The Dream' real thought bending experiences.
Back in high school, our gang only had one 8 track tape, this album, and we listened to it everyday for a year :-) I think it's their greatest achievement. The songs have such a strong coherence, kinda like their very own rock opera. Puts me in a great mood every time I hear it.
Hmm don't know, but I would would like to see Graham's empirical data, backed up by good statistical correlation, and crosschecked analysis. Think I may be waiting some time !
My favourite Moodies album ~ inspired by the Apollo moon landings, with children and space travel themes. This must be the Apollo lift off ~ 'climbing to tranquility (Tranquillity Base) high above the clouds'. Moody Blues albums were always democratic, the five guys each getting at least one track. Don't always get Edgey's 'poetry' tho', and his '10 billion butterfly sneezes' is for me the only downer on this superb album, altho' he does reprieve himself with the great tranquillity reference.
this would have been a good song to play while entering the stargate in 2001 a space oddessey- the thing about reaching perfection is what do you do next?
i was heavily raised on this album as well as ALL of the other moodies albums. thanx 2 my late mother, this band will 4ever be a religion of sorts in my life! rest in peace carla 7/1/55-2/3/03
this album reminds me of a time when just before the bus came to pick me up for school, i was smokin the dragon. when entering the bus, i felt as i learned a piece of knowledge and at the same time i was high, thinking that everyone around me was on the same plane of exsistence, clear of misty shroud!
floyd fanatic here. ive been on a quest to find the best psych and prog rock albums of all time. some U may not yet know. these are all masterpieces that will blow your mind. my channel full album playlists.
The TOCCC album is a time capsule. This is an album about space, and a testament to what was happening and had happened during that time with the moon shots and stuff. "Watching and Waiting" is perhaps the loneliest song ever written. Thank God I'm not that entity in that song.
They sang this last night at their concert! It was amazing!!! It was the one song that Graeme came down from his drums and had fun on stage-dancing, strutting, etc while Justin and John jammed their hearts out. What a show!!! If you are able to see the Moodies on this tour-GO!! They sounded great!!!!
@joeyrsl watch the interview with justin hayward that moody jill has where he explains that this album didnt sell as well as some of the other albums i guess it went over some listeners heads
This is NASA's theme song.
