No, the reason he performed so poorly here is because he, like most pop singers, insist on writing parts that are at the very top of his range (it goes up to a high B on the part where he cracks really bad), and then has to force those notes out every night for months in a row on tour, which destroys his voice and results in the surgery that took place two years after this video.
