Even if your not a freak, In my opinion, if i have extra money Id rather save up $550 and buy 3 150lbs of rice in one go rather than a new flat screen Tv.....  I mean seriously not having to go back and forth to buy food... It takes me 7 months to go through as an individual, on excessive amounts

your gonna have to expand there. Buy alot of one item you use then replace what you use and then buy alot of another item and so on and so on. Eventually your pantry will be full of canned goods. Don't forget dry goods. Flour, Sugar, pinto beans, rice, spices. Buy in bulk and then buy 5 gallon food buckets. Also dont forget water. I buy the 1 gal. square water jugs so I can stack them. I rotate them from one end of the wall to the other so that I use the older water first.

The USDA has been over estimating the soy bean production and we will run out sometime in June 2010. Also, thanks to the economy downturn, farmers made shortcuts this year with preventative measures just like 1931 and we could very well lose a lot of the 2010 crop from grasshoppers and locusts. Get gardening and stock up.

@Ooloosoon You're right, most of our junk food comes from soy and corn. A shortage in soy beans will cause food prices to rise across the board as people are forced to eat what is left on the shelves.

I planted another two tomato plants in self watering pots. Have another 32 started. I've even going to figure out how to grow food indoors for the coming fall and winter since this is only going to get worst.

@rayme4raw green houses are good too, for blocking frost and lengthening growing seasons to before winter frost breaks, and i guess also into late fall and early winter a little bit too. but mostly for growing many starts in feb. or march or april, depending on just how cold it is where your at. growing in your house is great too, the extra oxegen is good for your health too, also fermenting wine in a cool temp.-appropriate-area under or near your greenouse is better then buying CO2.

Thank you for the video. I do think you will need much more than this. In quantity and variety. Beans, rice, dry milk, juices... Also, you might want to think about getting some mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Lastly, water and seeds.
