I remember seeing on AMC or some other channel one Samhain a few years back an old ep. of a Hitchcock film where a Gay couple was directly involved in murdering someone and stuffing the body inside a large chest! It was obvious they were Gay from how they spoke to each other, the fact that they were living in the apartment, and there was only ONE bedroom! Can't recall the title of the movie, though. If only he had portrayed us more positively!
"Rope" was based on the real life case of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb who were two gay lovers who murdered a fourteen year old boy because of Nietsche's (sp?) "Supermen" theory.
Also, Jimmy Stewart's character in the film was supposed to have had a relationship with the two men according to the filmmakers, but Stewart's performance came off as too much of a detective instead.
Thanks, but what's the "Supermen" theory? Is it kind of like that modern mental illness where a care taker deliberately harms one in order to try to save them? Can't think of what that's called, now.
The Superman/Overman/Ubermensch theory is a big part of the core of Nietzche's philosophy. It's the idea that a truly strong ruler of men would in fact be "Beyond good and evil" and subject to no man's rule save his own.
They were attempting to ascend to the level where they could prove themselves as true Supermen.
The barber shop clip is really hilarious! And to think it was made about 90 years ago! WOWW! It resfreshing to see the beginning of the subjet in movies.
Just too fabulous, darling! Of course everybody knows Bugs Bunny is gay, just like Snagglepuss is gay and Velma on Scoobie Doo is a lesbian. I didn't know about Gus and Jock. Bert and Ernie must be happy ...
This footage is fabulous, you know I've seen those clips with bugs bunny before and I never noticed how camp he was acting, I suppose it just didn't penetrate my thoughts.
BTW, as a kid, I always thought Bugs Bunny was a sarcastic gay guy. What else could explain his behavior? Bugs is mostly lipstick, bitchiness and smartness? Seems gay to me! If he isn't, he's a woman.
I can relate; I resemble one of the above descriptions to a T.
As the Alabama footballer said to Bruno, I'm not gay! But great tunes. There is a BBC jazz singer, George Melly, who in 2003 presented a BBC Radio 2 series on straight and non-straight songs from jazz. Funny.
it's very good. I enjoyed it very much. I hope this isn't your only project. I was surprised by Danny Kaye's statement. I am a big fan of the movie Hans Christain Andersen and never picked up on the line. I laughed when I heard it.
Is the $15 DVD simply a conversion of the original VHS release of the film, or is it a newly created DVD at DVD quality?

Thanks! Hmmm...any thoughts as to why Hitchcock refrained from making this gay couple a hero or victim, instead of the villains?
