  • I like to think this was a tribute to Opal Whitely. Did Syd know of her? Did Syd sympathize with Opal Whitely?

  • What I most like about his tunes are the 'homemade in a split second' feel on them.

They all sound really natural, spontaneous and wonderful.

  • utterly wonderful!!! we love you,Terrapin :-) xxx

  • Happy Birthday, Syd... <3

  • Tje most Surprising song Syd!

  • Comments as 'Syd > Gilmour' disgust me. Gilmour stepped up when Syd wasn't able to sing and write anymore. Roger handled the writing and Gilmour the singing. Weird how I see comment as 'fuck gilmour, barret for lifffeee' on other vids as well. Ignorance.

  • @MajorJackassCunt Syd > Gilmour isn't bad, it's merely stating preference. But people saying fuck Gilmour are idiots, they are both amazing.

  • @stnavres He did not say fuck Gilmour, he said Barrett is bigger than him. Nobody can say Gilmour sucks, though. He is a hell of an artist as well...in my opinion, the combination Syd-Gilmour would be like >>>>>> than Gilmour-Waters

  • @TheElma4 I never actually said that he said "Fuck Gilmour". Read the comment that I replied to.

  • @stnavres Nevermind, i made a mistake there, but my opinion is still the same. Respect for Gilmour, but Syd is the best!

  • nadie mas, nadie, nadie mas.... syd

  • This song saved my life.

  • Ma quant'è bella 'sta canzone??

  • so fucking beautiful! it's just, so fucking beautiful.

    I can't stand it.

  • @thearistacats1 die faghot

  • I like the chord changes!

  • awesome!

  • The lyrics for this song are simply amazing!

  • found me ..YEAH.

  • Would have been better without the drugs let's not lie, you do die

  • @parisianna87 Yeah, if you overdose.

  • @parisianna87 Don't talk crap. Syd never took drugs that kill.

To place all drugs under the "deadly" banner is wrong.

  • what the car is this? i want it, you see all steel, two km / lt jajaja, all style

  • with my brother remember you death day, fucking drugs, i want more syd...

  • Raw emotion. Pure art.

  • wonderful and beautiful, but such a sadness and loneliness

  • This song can really make me feel a several kind of status....first of all,it makes me think and imagine! AWESOME

  • Syd was 20th century's most underrated singer/songwriter/musician. R.I.P. Roger Keith Barrett.

  • @fropmozzle Not to mention Kevin Ayers

  • He was an original.

  • I hope Syd will never be forgotten!

  • @3ombieautopilot Impossible. Syd will never be forgotten. Not because he created Pink Floyd, but because his songwriting and musicianship is simply outstanding.

He was a unique talent. People will always listen to his music.

  • i love this songs they have been with me in very hard and great times, i love the detuned sound is special very special on the distant shore, i am tryiiiiiing to find you! forever syd barrett original man...

  • Syd was a musical genius. Syd started "The Pink Floyd" and then he was ostracized from his own band, so they legally just shorteded it to "Pink Floyd". Syd had everything people were jealous of, and he was attacked for it. Basically every song published or performed by "Pink Floyd" is about the character assination of Syd. Pink Floyd is about very sinister social concepts that excist. Syd was pshychologically injured and bullied for being of an exceptionally high order of creative genius.

  • @nycdarkglobe I don't think that's fair to be honest, I think his behaviour was beyond working with. If you were in a band and the lead singer was non responsive and playing one note throughout the gig then you'd probably feel that he could no longer go on. By the time he left I don't think he could have cared less about whether he was in the band or not - it was all the people around him could do to get him into the studio. I love Syd but I don't think you can blame the rest of the band.

  • I'm a big fan of Syd Barrett. Syd was sensitive, highly intelligent, creative and beautiful .... drugs destroyed his personality and its beauty .... his songs are immortal ...

  • cool & nice,5768789765

  • cool & nice

  • its a pity this song was not released on the moment but just because it does not match for all ears,

  • Syd Barrett > David Gilmour

  • @CaptainBukcwald Everyone else on the band > Roger Waters

  • @CaptainBukcwald Syd Barrett != David Gilmour

  • @CaptainBukcwald Syd Barrett > Davis Gilmour + Roger Waters

  • in the picture, what is it that has syd on your hands? I can see a cigarette but what else? :O

  • SSSS UNA LEYENDA ESTA ROLA!!!

ESTA INCREIBLE Y LUEGO LA LETRA ESTA MUY ABSTRACTA AL IGUAL QUE LA MENTE DE BARRETT GENIO GENIOO TOTAAAAL!!!!

    LARGA VIDA A SYD :)

  • truly...truly..awe inspiring!!! we love you,syd xxx

  • "Crisp flax squeaks tall reeds" - I don't know what it means, but I love it!

  • @teddy1066 In all honesty, all of these first lyrics sound very zen in their nature. They are all basically statements of nature, or reality. My favorite is the second set of lyrics....just pure "suchness" or "thusness" to it.....kinda hard to explain, but I think I feel the same way you do. Great music, with lots of wonder :)

  • beautiful

  • syd, you are my hero. R.I.P my friend

  • I want to get more by Syd - hav only got Mad Cap so far -WHICH I LOVE!!!

On this he sounds like hes using a really thin plectrum -which is cool in its self -as so many guitar snob reckon thin plectrums are gay.

  • @Mrsjessywessybessy The album Barrett is a gem. I was lucky enough to get an original vinyl.

  • @888anotherusername9 Nice, I have The Madcap Laughs on vinyl. Best birthday present I could ever ask for.

  • Happy birthday Syd! :)

    You're a genius!

  • if you like syd's music, please check out my music! Search for Roger Delarge on facebook or youtube! Syd is my favorite artist and a huge inspiration for me! thanks ;)

  • how i love that song *.*

  • good music to enjoy my old age

  • With the exception of a few songs like Echoes...I like Syd's music more than the floyd's. I know Roger and David helped him produce his work, but all that said I like his music better. Just a personal opinion!

  • Amazing song. Syd my inspiration to play music even if it's mostly his. I also born in 1973. The release date of Dark side of the Moon. Wish I could have shook his hand. RIP Barrett!

  • These kind of people, like S. Barrett, in these moments of... transformation their mind explodes into million pieces, and parts of it reaches some of us like a drop in our still isolated souls. I was born 1973, and I got a drop of this bliss on my head. It is growing to that same ozean of... wonder - and i´m not on drugs right know.

    The music bears a witness.

  • he left us a long time ago, but he's still with us.

  • Syd's best song no doubt

  • <3 Syd....RIP to the purest Genius that ever lived...Your soul lives on even after 4 years :)

  • never forget you Syd.

we be of one blood ye and i

  • the 'comfortable' insanity

  • Beautiful man, beautiful song, beautiful words, beautiful music....

  • On a distant shore, miles from land

stands the ebony totem in ebony sand

a dream in a mist of gray...

    on a far distant shore...

    The pebble that stood alone

    and driftwood lies half buried

    warm shallow waters sweep shells

    so the cockles shine...

    Beautiful lyrics. I mean, beautiful.

  • 3:02 creepy chord

  • Syd was genius. He will never be replaced. We will forever love and miss you, sweet Syd.

  • Was he driving an old Pontiac around London ?,,lol

  • @PupuTheClown hes standing in front of one

  • That's gotta be my favourite krazy-kord sequence of all time.

  • Wow ! Ethereal and haunting sound. This is where Pink Floyd originated..no doubt.

  • Not even John Lennon could compete with this song.

  • @DoctorPencilK just a stupid statement

  • @DoctorPencilK You are right with that one.

  • quando nasce la volontà di raggiungere il desiderio tramite l'arte di note musicali, li nasce syd barrett! peace

  • rip syd...poor guy:( sounds as though he's drowning and is very unhappy. i hope the next life is better for him.

  • Reading the book: Crazy Diamond - Syd Barrett & the dawn of Pink Floyd. Very interesting cat. Every true Floyd fan should read it.

  • @pucksterz12

Yeah, I read the same book.

You will really get a major lump in your throat reading the last paragraph.

    Great book.

  • @PinkOld What book?

  • @Xbox360Gamer7

"Crazy Diamond: Syd Barret and The Dawn of Pink Floyd"

  • @PinkOld you should check out "A very irregular head" by rob chapman if you havent already, its pretty spectacular.

  • @PinkOld You mean the last in the epilogue? With Syd and his step-brother's guitar?

If it's that, oh man, you can't believe how you're right... Made me almost cry

  • @ZiggyPeterLewis Yes!

    Definitely heartbreaking.

  • Easily Syd's best song. Staggering he left it off the album and not released until the 80s. Some author had said once maybe Syd though it was TOO good and would make the other material seem weak in comparison. The outro part at 3:50 breaks me.

  • evan though he;s passed he still shines on like a crazy diamond,.....rip roger keith "syd" barrett

  • Yeah. did have quite a mind. Genius, indeed, highly intelligent, talented, cool ,stoned ,refined, like an opel stone embedded in the sand....Rest in peace, Syd Barrett...........

  • Syd was too smart for his own good

  • indeed.

  • He search for the secrets to soon, like david said

  • It's so weird, it's like he's just waiting for the band to fill in with something in the middle where he stops singing.

  • omfg, that hit me like a truck.

    so true...

  • So the cockles shine ........

  • Wow! His song writing skills were sheerly amazing.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY SYD

  • I listened to this song when I'd first found out about Syd's death. It broke my heart. Still does.

The end makes me think of my father (who is also gone), though I'm still trying to find him. What an achingly beautiful song...

  • brings tears to my eyes....it is all things!!!

  • amazing!

  • Thanks.

    Enjoy your day :-))

    - Thomas

  • Genius.

  • This is one of histories great sages, a messenger from a fairer place, trapped in a harsh world. While Yeats strived to understand and connect with the Fairie realm, this man was of it. Also want to say i appreciate and agree with the comments of all those here.

  • painfully beautiful...

  • Sooo Beautiful :(

  • driftwood lies half buried

  • Brilliant! ♥

  • when Syd goes into the last part 'I'm trying" it rips at your soul....

  • it sure does...

  • I fucken love this song i heard on lsd while at a lake and honestly it just blew my mind and body away. I got so lost and into the guitar strumming and the way he carries his voice. The ending of the song is really sad when he sings the final lyrics.GREAT SONG...

  • I'm trying

    I'm trying to find you!

    To find you

    I'm living, I'm giving,

To find you, To find you,

    I'm living, I'm living,

    I'm trying, I'm giving

    <3

  • Hello, dear unforgettable genius. You'll forever live in our hearts.

  • God.

  • Great, great song...!!!

  • grazie di tutto sid...:)

  • Today it is 3 years without Syd Barrett. RIP Syd.

  • Unmatchable lyrical genius, this man was.

  • i agree

  • Despairingly beautiful.

  • one of Syds best. RIP Syd.

  • this is great! lol love his song Effervescing Elephant

Its childlike but I love it.

  • If you like "Effervescing Elephant" you might like "Signifying Monkey" and other old African American songs...that whole "jungle gossip" tradition came straight over on the slave ships. Syd gave it a nice British twist though.

  • The end of this reminds me of the Crying Song by Pink Floyd.

  • buena, gran ambiente

  • strange song

  • Yes, it's strange. Good you got a chance to listen to it.

  • I have 12 minutes long version of this song. It's even more haunting. That "I'm trying" line could last forever. Amazing!

  • Post it, I'm sure people would love to hear it.

  • Maybe I will try to post it one day, but that song is in some strange format, which only VLC Media player plays.

  • Awe dang. Have you tried making it into a video format? If you have Windows Movie Maker you could probably do it.

  • I will try, but there is another problem - the song is longer than 10 minutes. I don't think it would be great to cut it in two parts...

  • Oh dang. lol. What a troublesome song it is haha.

  • Well, one guy sent me it. I don't know where he got it.

  • Hits the spot when you need it.

    I'm try-ing... to fi-ind you...

Haven't we all felt that way at some stage in our lives before?

  • fuckin great song

    its true crazy song :)

  • a tru poet. thank u

  • he has such a nice voice! x)

    I like his hair. 8P

    lol

  • it's almost as if you can feel through syd's voice & singing, him sincerely "trying to find" us. the chord changes are so strikingly beautiful and haunting. it either moves you or it doesn't? you've got to take it for what it is, the words I mean. it hurts my heart to hear this. the ending fade out goes on forever in my mind.

  • Yeah

  • crazy song

  • great

  • Love this.

  • im liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiving im giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiving
