Actually Grace it's Branagh's fifth nomination, not fourth. He has been nominated for directing, lead actor, supporting actor, writing and for a short film he did. He is now the most diverse nominee in Oscar history I believe. And I think you are ragging on Alan Arkin too much. Most people did not remember who Arkin was before Little Miss Sunshine came out and he did a really great job. Still, either him or Murphy winning would have been a "he deserves it" win anyways.
Considering the four Best Supporting Actor performances this year were snubbed (Brad Pitt in The Tree of Life, Albert Brooks in Drive, Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love, and Corey Stoll in Midnight in Paris), I'll have to go with my 5th choice: Christopher Plummer.
I can't decide who should win. I love both Nick Nolte and Christopher Plummer but Max Von Sydow looks brilliant. I just hope the Oscars do someone justice.
I loved watching Nick Nolte eversince he played Russel Price in 'Under Fire'. Also Max von Sydow deserves an Oscar for his whole career. The man is an outstanding character actor. He plays excellent villains :)
I had the weirdest dream last night with you, Grace! I was being buying comics from you in a comic shop you owned and I apparently had Spider-Man's powers and for some reason I was being very obnoxious to you. Kinda funny now that I think of it!
i understand nick nolte was good in the movie but he wasn't great but christopher plummer was a excellent performance and i love that movie so he should win and i couldn't understand that mother beeb and i hope he doesn't win but chris should win
Jonah Hill deserves the nomination but he won't win. The whole accumulated performances is ingrained in the memories of the voters. So I can't say for sure.
Nick Nolte! When I put Warrior on my list of the best films of 2011 I even said that he if didn't at least get a nomination I would lose what little faith I still have in the acadamy
@v4lkyr They're both fixed. It's all about the business politics. Watching it as some light entertainment, I understand, but people getting into arguments over who shoulda, woulda, coulda won is ridiculous because it's not as if everyone had a fair chance to win. It's all about the business agendas these groups/organizations have and what will further those agendas. What the masses think is the least important thing on their minds. Most of the time, it's not on their minds at all.
I really hate how the Academy almost never pays attention to films that come out earlier in the year, even in September, like Drive, 50/50, or Warrior. And why do they feel they need to give out awards as a "lifetime achievement" type of thing. If this is the case, why not have a separate award just for those people. It's not that these people don't always deserve the award they're getting,I just wish the recognition was wasgiven to the mostdeserving personfor their performance.Sorry for rambling.
Christopher Plummer is most likely going to get it. Jonah Hill was a surprise. I really liked his performance in Moneyball, it's always nice to see comedic actors turn to drama (and actually do it well). Biggest upset in this category was Albert Brooks for Drive getting snubbed. Otherwise, it was a nice selection. :)
Max von Sydow! For certain! Man's voice capabilities are beyond fantastic. Theres no man on the Earth who can't recognize Max's voice when he hears it. Hes should win, seriously! Besides hes a living legend of the old generation of holliwood actors. I had a rough time choosing between Max and Plummer, but Max won in my heart! For sure!
Cristopher Plumber. I'm kinda surprised there was no mention of the girl with the dragon tatoo which he also did last year, which was a good straight-faced supporting role where he gave his character good depth and made him believable and likable.
The only film I've seen out of these is Warrior, so I can't judge the other nominees, but Nick Nolte's performance moved me to tears; I mean, it literally had me crying. The instant I watched Warrior, I said "Nick Nolte had better get an Oscar nomination." And again, I can't comment on the others, but I would've loved to see Andy Serkis get a nom for Rise of the Apes; he's LONG overdue for one. Alan Rickman for HP would've been nice, too, though I didn't expect a nomination for him.
Instead of Hill, I would have liked to see Albert Brooks get nominated for Drive. The best supporting categories usually go to the actors who stole the show from the lead, which Brooks, Nolte, and Plummer did.
Well, I would rather have Jonah hill take the honor of a nomination than see Sasha Baren Cohen be granted one for "Hugo," or Daniel Craig for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo."
