I'm sad that he died, but the death was excessive in my honest opinion. It's like they REALLY wanted you to get it the first time:

Being stabbed by a pincer the size of his body, a little bit of coughing out blood, the happy montage with the cliche shot of his smile (and fun times with Clan), and then being flung into space, with no way to retrieve the body.

Aside from that, I'm not going to lie, when I watched the series I almost cried when I saw this.

What is it with snipers always dying in anime these days? bah, that sucked. but it was a good episode!

Gotta agree with you. The Snipers are the people who are "On a battlefield" in the safest position since they are sniping from behind friendly lines and not up front. However, on solo missions they have the most dangerous missions imaginable.

Both Lock-On and Micheal were excellent snipers, but they both made the same major mistake. They came out of hiding and rushed into battle, resulting in their own fatal death.

Remember kids, if you are a future sniper, don't come out of hiding! T_T

lol, sadly snipers don't alway "snipe". There a good amount of the times they have to do normal missions to, that don't let them use their sniper rifle. (Not going to get to much in to military stuff on a anime vid)

Different atmospheres. Macross milked the sentimentality and passion of the moment. Code Geass R2 went for compassion and sympathy for what Lelouch did in the end.
