I served in the military for seven years: two tours in Iraq and one in Korea. I never was never harassed by gay soldiers. However, I did see a couple of gay guys get harrassed by supposed straight guys. About 1 in 10 people are gay on some level; approx. 1 in 1000 are either bigots or act like bigots because they are in denial of being gay. Some soldiers feel they fit in by harrassing other soldiers. Bigots shoul removed so enlistment can go up.

Being gay doesn't have to be degrading. Gay service members being able to discuss their relationships and families without threat of dishonorable discharge shouldn't be a blow to the military's ego. It's embarrassing to me that people have turned this into a matter of "prestige." A soldier who loves his husband and children and refuses to deny them isn't a gay soldier. He's just a soldier. Just like a black soldier is just a soldier. They should be treated equally and without disdain.

i do have one question that is meant to be fair and not discriminatory. In many army camps guys shower as a group. So how do you monitor privacy? that is i would feel very uncomfortable to shower with a gay man just as much as i would to shower with a women i didn't know. simply because of the sexual attraction that may occur from the gay person. doesn't anyone see this as a very practical obstacle?

Soldiers are worried about a gay guy getting an erection in the shower.....sad. They went through hell in boot camp, they've seen people shot, they are away from friendly territory for years, yet they can't handle a person with an erection. Both the Army and Navy in the USSR were famous for the treatment of young recrutes as sexual objects by Sergeants & Supervisors. Gay rape was common in the Soviet Military and everybody knew it. I served 6 years in the US Army Medical Corps. I was surrounded with Gays. Everybody knew. My last company commander was a butch Lesbian. Half the company was made up of Lesbian women. Nobody cared. Nobody complained.

How do you think it will work out when MEN are sent for sensitivity training about a subject they believe is against GODS LAW? I know I would opt-out that same day. My 3 sons will not be serving now, and 7 of my friends are getting out ASAP! Where is that going to leave the US Military? A Lt Colonel in the Army is about to resign because of this. It's started!

We had conversations about what the Bible says about it, but he chose to ignore it. I see him about every 5 yrs or so. He acts happy around his parents, but he tells me his life is always chaotic, and he doesn't know how or if he could change. His mother dressed and treated him as a girl until he was 7 yrs old. Perhaps that had something to do with it. Ya think?

I served in the military for seven years: two tours in Iraq and one in Korea. I never was never harassed by gay soldiers. However, I did see a couple of gay guys get harrassed by supposed straight guys. About 1 in 10 people are gay on some level; approx. 1 in 1000 are either bigots or act like bigots because they are in denial of being gay. Some soldiers feel they fit in by harrassing other soldiers. Bigots shoul removed so enlistment can go up.
