  • kan niet in de verste verte typen aan frankie lane

  • This song makes me want to drink beers and blast my neighbor's fence with a shotgun...

  • ok corral wtf

  • Yeah, a pale imitation of Laine's version. Of course the quintessential western theme is from 'The Magnificent Seven."

  • Western movies (B westerns) were popular in the 50's because there was a clear delineation between good and evil, right and wrong. The Cold War and othere1950's conflicts were murky and unclear. Korea (was it a war? did we win? Why did we die?) Berlin, the Iron Curtain, .. black-white gave way to grey and nebulous issues. Who was really right? High noon was about the McCarthy era (was communism our enemy? or McCarthy? or both? ) .. (if only all good guys wore white hats..)

  • sweet

  • By the way Tex Ritter happened to be John Ritter's (most notably from "Three's Company") Dad. As well as, Jason Ritter's (most notably from the NBC series "The Event") Grandfather. Jason is John's son. Jason has quite a few movies under his belt now. Sorry if TMI, but.........

  • In the Original movie with De Kelley, Burt, & Kirk, The song was sung by Frankie Laine. Johnny Western & many others have sung this song afterwards. The portions that were played in the soundtracks were never put out as a song from the movie itself. Frankie had recorded it a few times afterwards out of popular demand. However, until someone pieces together the clips of songs from the movie, you won't find the "original" available. Or, unless the studio finds the " original " recording.

  • I dobn't know who this singer is. he does pretty good and it is a full version of the song. I prefer Frankie Laine, but I have only ever heard him do the full version on the movie.

  • It may not be Tex Ritter!

Don't chuckle but the singer be

    the late Paul Robeson??

  • ♅♆♆♆♆♆♅

  • The guy on the far right in the photo looks looks "Bones" from the original Star Trek.

    Maybe he got beamed down...

  • @ronetteloverz You are right!.....thats exactly who he was......he acted in a lot of westerns.....which unlike this classic were usually B movies until he hit the big time in Star Trek.

  • @ronetteloverz And his name was DeForest Kelley. We are both saying "was" instead of "is" because the gentleman is no longer with us.

  • @ronetteloverz actually he's DeForest Kelley the Star Trek doctor Bones and also Wyatt Earp's brother in the John Sturges's movie and worked in the TOS episode the shadow of a gun just about the 1881.10.26 realgunfight ok corral.

  • @ronetteloverz Yes it is Deforest Kelly.Watch a movie call Judgement at Nuremberg and you will see somebody looks familiar.

  • Who is Rex Titter?

    The singer was Frankie Laine

  • Seems so Korny looking back at it now. Then there is MGM with movies like... How the West Was Won! I luv these movies from the 40's to the late 70's. There was so much talent there and the Studio System had it's way of doing aw-sum things.

  • thanks a bunch this is great

  • Thanks for puttig this to-gether.....give me a lot of enjoyment, memories of my dad taking me to the movies.

  • Frankie Laine sang this song on the film.

Rex Titter and every other hasbeen also recorded it later on.

It was composed by Dimitri Tiomkin (Exodus etc)

Coincidentally, Leon Uris wrote the screenplay - he also wrote Exodus.

Not a patch on "Back in the Saddle Again"

    :-)

  • The music for Exodus was written by Ernest Gold, not Dimitri Tiomkin.

  • Rex Titter, that's good! But as you imply Frankie is the best.

  • Thanks for info auzatmagne!

  • @auzatmagne The original singer for this movie was Frankie Laine. Te x Ritter was the singer for "HIGH NOON!"

  • Great voice and perfect for this song. I love Frankie Laine's version the best because it is all I have heard until this one. This was really really good. Who is this singer?

  • Terrific singer...but, it just doesn't feel right. I'm used to singing along with Frankie!

  • river2walk, I think the singer could be Johnny Western or Tex Ritter.

On the ok corral theme, why not try posting the theme from "Hour of the Gun" composed by Jerry Goldsmith. This film was also made and directed by John Sturges 10 years after "Gunfight at" and is intended to pick up from where that film left off. The opening sequence of the film is one of the top western cinematic moments and Goldsmith was very proud of his composition.

  • Hi ab4rereleaseCspray, "Hour Of The Gun" was an excellent western, which unfortunately failed at the box office. Of course apart from the odd exception no matter how good the theme music is, if the movie is not successful then the theme will sink with it. "Hour Of The Gun" is a prime example of this. Another consequence of the failure of the movie is that it's theme has never been included in any of the many collections of movie themes that have appeared over the years, which is a great pity!

  • @ab4rereleaseCspray But of course this was DeForest Kelley

  • I'm afraid I can't find out the guys name, but he is definately from the U.K....can't compare to ol' Frankie Laine though!

  • @river2walk Would that be Matt Monro you are thinking about?

  • @Juliaflo No es Matt Monro!

  • So who's the singer?
