Any and all of you "haters" need to effin chill! That being "said" Thin Lizzy should be hailed as not only "Rock" icons, but music icons because they will always be the one and only! Hear,Hear1
Shredding ala Gary Morre wasn't Snowy's style; but Scott makes up for it at the very end with a highly dramatic cadenza. The man is the most soulful player I can even think of. If you listen to his solos at half speed, you'll hear all kinds of crazy timing devices-- syncopation, etc.-- to where he almost swings like a jazz player. It is so unorthodox I often wonder if they aren't, in fact, mistakes.
i was fortunate to meet Phil outside the glasgow appollo in 77, what a true gent...we talked for 2mins and then he bought me fish and chips, he was and still is my musical influence.....RIP Phil

@MrPorsche91730 you definetly did lol, i was emphsizing what a great person Phil sounds like. but your not to quick on the uptake are ya?. you know what j/k means right? and id rather be a twat then a retard. I correct people who think they know everything, now im not saying i know everything, but when it comes to racing, i do know a little :)
Aparrently they were a draw for drug dealers wherever they played I dont Phil could cope with the availability of hard drugs such a shame I have great memories of seeing Lizzy play live
this is originally a track from the 1979 LP Black Rose recorded in Paris, produced by Tony Visconti, with as mentioned the blazing guitar of Gary Moore.
Snowy, though a great blues player, isn't in Gary's league and would say the same himself.
This song is so close to the bone- its amazing that Lynott dabbled with material that was so telling about what was actually going on. Makes me really sad every time I hear it, but I LOVE this song so much. I love how upbeat and rock and roll this song is. Its full of emotion.
What a amazing band! And the deal with Thin Lizzy is we might have never ever heard of them in the states if they hadn't wrote boys are back in town. No one knew who they were or ever heard them until that song surfaced over here!
Of course there are recordings of Gary Moore playing this live...there's several from the '79 tour. I assumed someone would have posted one by now, but I guess I can.
it's just that some like them more than others hehe..in my opinion their worst album was 'shades of a blue orphanage' and then i guess 'nightlife' but only cause of the bad production..its pretty amazing their sound was always better live than studio albums...if only Phil didnt die on us..he could reform thin lizzy and continue their awesome musical journey and blow our minds :D..bands like THIN LIZZY - MOTORHEAD - BLACK SABBATH change the world
who cares what anyone "looks" like..listen to how tight and clean these f**kers are live...RIP Phil..Gary Moore rips in Black Rose...one of the best if not the best Lizzy Album in my opinion...
Thank you for your inspiration and your magic. Seen too many bands .....never seen anything like Lizzy in The Glasgow Appollo. The Whole Place Was Bouncing. If I could go back in time.......
I love Scott's GINORMOUS moustache in this picture. Then there is Gary trying to be the fucking pretty boy of the band... he really pisses me off, because it is so obvious he was trying to be the pretty boy, but hes an ugly SOB compared to Phil and Scott, who are two very hansome men.
Hahahahah, I'm only joking around, as if you took me seriously. The point I made about Gary is something I find funny, but I love him, he was responsible for Waiting for an Alibi, and Black Rose! For a time he was my favourite guitarist out of the band purely for his tenchical skill.
Plus if you love and listen to Lizzy as much as I do... there are little things about them that you notice a lot and either start to love or hate. You can't like everything about all of the members of the greatest band in the world can you?
Nope. I certainly don't like every song Thin Lizzy ever made, and I wouldn't expect anyone else to either. I think "Chinatown" isn't that great of an album, and I've never been a huge fan of the Eric Bell stuff (although it has grown on me over time).
And while I think Snowy is a hell of a player, he totally wasn't the right fit for Lizzy. So that's just a few things.
That is a good song on a mediocre album. I agree with that 100%.
I said this someplace else, but I surprised a couple people when I said my least favorite song on Chinatown was the title track. I just never liked that one for whatever reason.
I remember reading that on one of your uploads. Someone said that 'Genocide' was bad, and you said it was great but 'Chinatown' wasn't. I personally like 'Chinatown' a bit. Just the attitude of the song, and the main guitar riff.
Yeah I'm a huge fan of Genocide. I play it on guitar and I love playing it. It's just fun to play. Chinatown I've played and it's just sort of tedious. I don't know if that attitude was already there from hearing it a lot, but the only advantage with Chinatown is that you can really change up the solo a bit in it, while Genocide...doesn't really have a solo.
I angers me that Phil is gone. I hate to see talent wasted. I hate to see God's gifts wasted. Ultimately, however, I am angry because I so miss the man.
I agree with the comments talking about the inspiration this song is to addicts but I get more inspiration from Fighting My Way Back "Rough,Tough,Ready and Able to Pick Myself Up From Under This Table" RIP Philo Legend Genius and Tragic Loss.
This song is depressing but in a way that makes any who has an addiction realize just how strong of a message this song has. Phil Lynott knew early on he had a problem and the only way to get it out was through his lyrics. He was a prophetic lyricist and this song is amazing. Makes me realize just how amazing of a person he was. RIP Phil you have helped me to get through my drug addiction and to become normal again!
omg ... this song ... takes me way back in time, did all the nasty stuff i wasn't supposed to do as well ... this song helped me 15 years after the date shown ... to bad it didn't helped him ...

Yeah great song... but what´s the freaking point in uploading a version with no visual media to it when there is? Pointless, check the internet first.
So people can conveniently hear it. That's the point...not that I should have to say it, because anyone with half a brain should of already figured that out. If it bothers you so much that's there's nothing "visual" (although pictures are "visual"; you really mean animated), then stop watching and bitching and find it somewhere else to download. You are correct. It was just so sad. Late 1985 Phil decided it was time for him to clean up his act, get sober, Get the band back together. Ironically by getting sober he dies. This song is so prophetic as well as Heart Attack on Thunder & Lightning. RIP Phil. You have touched many a soul!
Late 1985 is a really unclear period when it comes to what Lynott was actually doing. Even Putterford's book "The Rocker" doesn't do a good job. Laurence Archer is saying how he got Phil to quit for three months (I think it was him anyway) and others say he was hard at it until he died. Moore mentions sometimes how he had a desire to quit, and how other times it was "in one ear, out the other". He did want the band back together, but I don't know was his intentions were toward his lifestyle.
True true. Its I hear alot about him wanting to quit and doing so but then others saying he was still using. I mean his last TV interview he looks a bit bloated and his voice is sore and horse. It could be just from all the years of abuse. I mean I can attest personally that drug abuse especially Heroin can take a toll on you. It nearly cost me my life. With the help of the people around me and that of Phil Lynott and the music he made I pulled through and now am Sober :)!
Phil was well and truly still at it up until he collapsed. The last 2 years he was never really clean. It's been well documented in many interviews that he was a mess for most of 84 & 85 and was suffering severe depression as well as his drug habit. He took something the night before at a Xmas party.
By the way - this is possibly THE greatest rock song that Lizzy had that wasn't a single. That guitar solo here and on the studio version is a killer.
The first guitar solo is undoubtedly an on-form Scott Gorham, a much underrated guitarist and recorded before his much publicised rock star excesses. The album 'Black Rose' from which the track is taken featured Gary Moore who left Thin Lizzy soon after the following tour to be replaced by Snowy White.
