@cjcookie You mean where this video was shot? In a German town called Hagen (North Rhine-Westphalia). He was there visiting a ballet premiere that used his BSG music.
Bear you are a incidental music composer genious. You are up there with some of my favourites. Roger Limb, Lovett Bickford and Paddy Russel, all who worked on classic Doctor Who.
I said the very same thing on another forum entirely, a blog by Doug Drexler, prop designer & artist for BSG & Caprica as well as TNG, DS9, Voyager & Enterprise. Doug D. agreed w / me as well.
The music is awesome! I had not paid attention to the score until I read Bear McCreary's blog. I feel a sense of loss, but at the same time the hope for a way.
This theme represents the pain of battle. The sense of loss, emptiness, supported by the key of G minor ... Nice work with great influence on Philip Glass.
@musimundi More like feeling like the end is near, kind of like how many people feel about our world, and i am not talking about 2012. if you look around more and more people are preparing for a day without being connected to our current governments. and being tired of how they keep going down the path of destruction from listening to the right-wing nuts who are afraid of everything, and who hate their own people!
I sense those elements & more, with the promise of hope as an undercurrent.
I agree with the idea of being tired of going down the path of destruction from listening to right - wing nuts, etc.
Caprica is like every major civilization that's existed on Earth, albeit with more technology. It seems to be a combination of 1930's N. America, Canada, Europe & slightly more advanced contemporary N. America, etc.
I love Bear McCreary for there is alot of Philip Glass influences in there, and he takes that minimilistic style and makes his own. HIs cover of All along the Watchtower amazing
Has anyone else noticed that the Caprica government has a Prime Minister and ministers instead of President and Secretaries like in BSG? I guess the United Colonies of Kobol isnt formed until the first Cylon war...
The articles of colonization weren't signed until after the first cylon war, yes. They were a result of the war. The different colonies had to band together to defeat the cylons; it's also why this earlier version of colonial society seems a bit more technologically advanced. As Doral said in the miniseries intro, it was a time they were so afraid of their enemies that they actually looked backwards.
I'd imagine that Caprica would have a world government similar to that of State government. Each colony would have a prime minister and a representative in the Quorum of Twelve (much like a senator.)
The song is beautiful as well as the pilot. I can't wait until the series starts next year. Anybody know where I can get my hands on the sheet music of this song?
Oh, Zoe. Little did you know what destruction your short life would leave in its wake for years to come. More than footprints left behind, indeed. Ominous and tragic in the extreme. I loved the pilot.
Very haunting & yet meditative, MOW I have to admit that I'm curious about Caprica. Will Sci Fi show the DVD versions like they did " Stargate: Continuum " & " Ark of Truth " ?
Will the A.I versions of the daughters revolt ? Curious.
I have hope for this series music now that I know Bear is on board. I was a little leary from the promos. But hearing such a haunting melody like this gives me a glimmer of hope.
It almost sounds like some of those old soap opera songs. But, given that Caprica is supposed to be something of a soap opera of sorts, it fits pretty well.
Galveston, you misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying that it reminded me of some of the more classic soap theme songs from, say, back in the 1970s and 80s. And, moreso than that, I might even go as far as saying that it even reminds me of some of the tunes within soaps, like those moments when someone receives bad news or something. Otherwise, yes, it is a great tune. And, personally, I can not wait for Caprica. With the success of BSG, it has to be good!
Ah, I see. I find it very haunting music; it almost conveys a sense of foreboding and tragedy to come. Which makes sense since Daniel and Zoe have no idea that what they're doing will ultimately lead to the annihilation of colonial society.
Exactly. And, here is an interesting thought. Remember way back to Galactica's Season 1, when Leoben was captured and interrogated by Starbuck? He told Roslin that "Adama is a Cylon". The irony in that statement is he could have been referring to Tamara Adams (Adama), since she also is turned into a Cylon along with Zoe. I also liked the Daniel Number 7 reference than Anders and Ellen talked respectively of. It all nods to Caprica.
Actually, I am unsure as to how Tamara will be resurrected, save for she will be as a result of her death on the same train where Zoe is also killed due to Ben Stark's fanatism in monotheism. As far as I can tell, there is no Tamara-A avatar, like Zoe's Zoe-A. I can only surmise that when Joseph Adama agrees to have Daniel bring back Tamara, he uses Zoe-A's template and whatever data on Tamara's original personality to create her. Just a theory.
That's a good one.. cause Zoe didn't even met Tamara so how would she have all of her data like DNA and stuff..? Tamara's Avatar it's obviously invented by Daniel..
Your English is actually pretty good, Zera. I have been pondering also that Tamara's Cylon incarnation could be either the result of Zoe-A or, since Zoe's boyfriend Ben had an avatar, named Ben-A, it is possible that perhaps there might be some influence by the Ben-A avatar. I know this theory is strictly outlandish at best. But, a theory nonetheless. This would all best explain the later Cylon actions- belief in a single god and the fact that they sometimes resorted to suicide bombings.
I have been very skeptical about Caprica, however, the more I see of it and the more I read up on it the more excited I get. I just love the BSGverse and I think Caprica may very well be a wonderful addition to it. However, I don't know if it will be able to survive as Galactica did due to the fact that many may not appreciate it. I also would LOVE to see either an epic movie trilogy or another spinoff about Galactica & young Adama in the First Cylon War. That'd be so badass.
i suspect half the charm of the show will be given by its music. bear has such a gift for brining out the essence - emotional essence - of something very visual like a tv show.
The theme sounds interestingly and familiar, as others pointed out already. I'm still in doubt whether I should go to Hagen for the ballet premiere. (I just noticed the drive isn't even all that long, I presumed Hagen wasn't in Nord Rhein, oops.)
