  • Amazing

  • He must have been like 11 years old or something at the beginning of Battlestar. :)

  • Bear is one of the most brilliant composers of our time.

  • The music was the best thing in Caprica. Eric Stoltz was good too.

  • I love this man's music.

  • the 5 dislikes comes from clarice and here apotheosis believing group marriage.

  • Sounds like something out of Dollhouse.

  • I wish this them had a full version.

  • I like how he messes up with the pitch, but not the rhythm

  • R.I.P CAPRICA.. BEST THING EVER TO HAPPEN TO "SELLOUT TO WWE" SYFY..

  • I want sheet music for this soooo bad

  • @mrslovvet me too

  • really curious: where is he?

  • @cjcookie You mean where this video was shot? In a German town called Hagen (North Rhine-Westphalia). He was there visiting a ballet premiere that used his BSG music.

  • @lexspartan I am from Germany. Do you know the name of the ballet? I would really like to see it...

  • @ToBiOh2 Hi! The name was Three Faces, but it was only for two weeks. You can find a ton of information about the show on caprica-city.de

  • Anyone know what Scale this is in?

  • Crazy beautiful. My favourite of all his pieces.

  • Bear is just crazy good, by far my fav when it comes to music composers.

  • the finished theme is a wonderful, wonderful piece of music, possibly my favorite of all time.

  • This composer is a genius. I rarely listen to so much intense and deep emotional music. Romantic, dark and sweet.

  • i DONT CARE WHAT ANAYBODY SAYS BEAR IS TRULY AWSOME FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE WITH BSG CAPRICA AND TERMINATOR SCC. THANKS MAN!

  • Bear McCreary is incredible. Without his music, BSG would not have been as amazing as it was. You rock bear, keep it up.

  • Bear McCreary = new mozart

  • this song to me is more on the adama family

  • Dude your music is awesome. What is the name of that flute like instrument used in Battlestar's music?

  • There's a facebook page called "Caprica for season 2!" so if you want Caprica for season 2, join!

  • I love Bears' music. It may be laced with Phillip Glass undertones but I just cant get enough!

  • Anyone have the sheet music? or know where I can buy it?

  • @adam010289

if you find out, let me know! I would love to have the music sheet too!!!

  • @adam010289 his website i think only has the right hand notes

  • This guy is amazing. Never watched the battlestar show but stumbled on his music and can't get enough.

  • Bear you are a incidental music composer genious. You are up there with some of my favourites. Roger Limb, Lovett Bickford and Paddy Russel, all who worked on classic Doctor Who.

  • To me this musical theme has a very haunting and meloncholy sound that takes me back to believe it or not, DARK SHADOWS

  • @johnnecron

I said the very same thing on another forum entirely, a blog by Doug Drexler, prop designer & artist for BSG & Caprica as well as TNG, DS9, Voyager & Enterprise. Doug D. agreed w / me as well.

  • OMG, I want these notes for piano...

  • McCreary you're my herooooooooooo !!!! Best TV show soundtrack ever !

  • Comment removed

  • Oh wow.. I love this! I can't wait for the sheet music! I have the BSG sets, I want Caprica's too!

  • The melody is very simple and easy to play, but very beautyful. He´s genius.

  • Sorry guys, I accidentally deleted some comments I didn't want to delete.

  • mournful & intriguing

sums up the two families i guess

  • if the laws of nature allowed it, i would bare that man's children

  • That would make you a pedophile.

"Bear" is what you meant. Bear Bear's children.

  • That, and Jimmy Gibbs.

  • The music is awesome! I had not paid attention to the score until I read Bear McCreary's blog. I feel a sense of loss, but at the same time the hope for a way.

  • This theme represents the pain of battle. The sense of loss, emptiness, supported by the key of G minor ... Nice work with great influence on Philip Glass.

  • @musimundi More like feeling like the end is near, kind of like how many people feel about our world, and i am not talking about 2012. if you look around more and more people are preparing for a day without being connected to our current governments. and being tired of how they keep going down the path of destruction from listening to the right-wing nuts who are afraid of everything, and who hate their own people!

  • I sense those elements & more, with the promise of hope as an undercurrent.

I agree with the idea of being tired of going down the path of destruction from listening to right - wing nuts, etc.

Caprica is like every major civilization that's existed on Earth, albeit with more technology. It seems to be a combination of 1930's N. America, Canada, Europe & slightly more advanced contemporary N. America, etc.

  • Haunting, somewhat mournful & melancholy ( foreshadowing the tragedy of loss ? ) but very well - done.

  • Awsome Dude. Love your tunes.

  • Charming

  • Oh my god, so good.

  • I love Bear McCreary for there is alot of Philip Glass influences in there, and he takes that minimilistic style and makes his own. HIs cover of All along the Watchtower amazing

  • well said, but as you can hear in my video response, the Philip Glass influence is replaced with a Battlestar drum beat, unfortunately.

  • @ISAFWolf is philip glass related to ron glass?

  • Just amazing... sad, mysterious... just Caprica. You get it men!!

  • when's the sheet music coming out for this?

  • That song is beautiful like everything he does.

I cant wait for the Soundtrack to be released. :-)

  • man CSM never gets a break, always dying. lol.

  • Gotta give him credit though. He died like 3 times in one show! Maybe he'll make a deal with the Cylons and get his mind put in Cavil or something :P

  • You can feel he's matured... I love his work... it feels a lot like my own but damn... You can truly get an insight into his mind... its great.

  • beautiful.

  • Has anyone else noticed that the Caprica government has a Prime Minister and ministers instead of President and Secretaries like in BSG? I guess the United Colonies of Kobol isnt formed until the first Cylon war...

  • The articles of colonization weren't signed until after the first cylon war, yes. They were a result of the war. The different colonies had to band together to defeat the cylons; it's also why this earlier version of colonial society seems a bit more technologically advanced. As Doral said in the miniseries intro, it was a time they were so afraid of their enemies that they actually looked backwards.

  • I'd imagine that Caprica would have a world government similar to that of State government. Each colony would have a prime minister and a representative in the Quorum of Twelve (much like a senator.)

  • The song is beautiful as well as the pilot. I can't wait until the series starts next year. Anybody know where I can get my hands on the sheet music of this song?

  • Oh, Zoe. Little did you know what destruction your short life would leave in its wake for years to come. More than footprints left behind, indeed. Ominous and tragic in the extreme. I loved the pilot.

  • Pilot was great 10/10. Great Closing Song which leads-off with a violen solo. Where have we heard that sound before?

  • It reminds me too much of the hideously dull piano music we constantly got during Baltar's time on the cylon basestar during season 3.

  • Those songs were fantastic man.

  • This man can frakking compose.

  • Very haunting & yet meditative, MOW I have to admit that I'm curious about Caprica. Will Sci Fi show the DVD versions like they did " Stargate: Continuum " & " Ark of Truth " ?

Will the A.I versions of the daughters revolt ? Curious.

  • I have hope for this series music now that I know Bear is on board. I was a little leary from the promos. But hearing such a haunting melody like this gives me a glimmer of hope.

  • It almost sounds like some of those old soap opera songs. But, given that Caprica is supposed to be something of a soap opera of sorts, it fits pretty well.

  • Have you ever heard an old soap opera song? It's nothing of the sort. This is a haunting theme. It's not the theme song to "The Secret Storm."

  • Galveston, you misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying that it reminded me of some of the more classic soap theme songs from, say, back in the 1970s and 80s. And, moreso than that, I might even go as far as saying that it even reminds me of some of the tunes within soaps, like those moments when someone receives bad news or something. Otherwise, yes, it is a great tune. And, personally, I can not wait for Caprica. With the success of BSG, it has to be good!

  • Ah, I see. I find it very haunting music; it almost conveys a sense of foreboding and tragedy to come. Which makes sense since Daniel and Zoe have no idea that what they're doing will ultimately lead to the annihilation of colonial society.

  • Exactly. And, here is an interesting thought. Remember way back to Galactica's Season 1, when Leoben was captured and interrogated by Starbuck? He told Roslin that "Adama is a Cylon". The irony in that statement is he could have been referring to Tamara Adams (Adama), since she also is turned into a Cylon along with Zoe. I also liked the Daniel Number 7 reference than Anders and Ellen talked respectively of. It all nods to Caprica.

  • Zoe made an avatar of Tamara??? Oh my.....

  • Actually, I am unsure as to how Tamara will be resurrected, save for she will be as a result of her death on the same train where Zoe is also killed due to Ben Stark's fanatism in monotheism. As far as I can tell, there is no Tamara-A avatar, like Zoe's Zoe-A. I can only surmise that when Joseph Adama agrees to have Daniel bring back Tamara, he uses Zoe-A's template and whatever data on Tamara's original personality to create her. Just a theory.

  • That's a good one.. cause Zoe didn't even met Tamara so how would she have all of her data like DNA and stuff..? Tamara's Avatar it's obviously invented by Daniel..

    Sorry, bad english xD

  • Your English is actually pretty good, Zera. I have been pondering also that Tamara's Cylon incarnation could be either the result of Zoe-A or, since Zoe's boyfriend Ben had an avatar, named Ben-A, it is possible that perhaps there might be some influence by the Ben-A avatar. I know this theory is strictly outlandish at best. But, a theory nonetheless. This would all best explain the later Cylon actions- belief in a single god and the fact that they sometimes resorted to suicide bombings.

  • Your theory was correct... With quite horrific consequences.

  • It is nice to be right about something. LOL...

  • I am very much looking forward to it as well.

  • So say we all, my friend.

  • I certainly hope so, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not. Spinoffs of a great, long-running series like BSG rarely do well.

  • Lords of Kobol be praised the more I see and hear the more excited I get. Love Bear McCreary.

  • So say we all

  • so say we all

  • so say we all

  • He did such a beautiful job with the score for Battlestar Galactica; I can't wait to see the one for Caprica!

  • Very nice - I also see the Philip Glass influence, but I have absolutely no problem with that. A beautiful piece, Bear!

  • I love it!

  • I have been very skeptical about Caprica, however, the more I see of it and the more I read up on it the more excited I get. I just love the BSGverse and I think Caprica may very well be a wonderful addition to it. However, I don't know if it will be able to survive as Galactica did due to the fact that many may not appreciate it. I also would LOVE to see either an epic movie trilogy or another spinoff about Galactica & young Adama in the First Cylon War. That'd be so badass.

  • This sounds like windy autumn evening with old men in overcoats rushing from place to another.

  • Ice cold, very nice indeed. It's so interesting to see BSG's composer play themes from the show.....

  • Haunting and brilliant! Looks as if Caprica will also be a big winner! Can't wait!

  • wonderfully philip glass-ian. yet... bear's. :)

i suspect half the charm of the show will be given by its music. bear has such a gift for brining out the essence - emotional essence - of something very visual like a tv show.

    thank you for sharing!

  • The theme sounds interestingly and familiar, as others pointed out already. I'm still in doubt whether I should go to Hagen for the ballet premiere. (I just noticed the drive isn't even all that long, I presumed Hagen wasn't in Nord Rhein, oops.)

  • is it me a does it sound like the music starbuck and Helo listen to on Caprica back in season one, the one that Starbuck's dad tape?

  • That piece one is actually a Philip Glass piece if I'm not mistaken, the recent one on Drelide Thrace's tape is a Bear composition.

But yeah, this one does seem a similar style to the one from Valley of Darkness.

  • The song from Valley of Darkness is a Phillip Glass song called "Metamorphosis One". And yes this song does have a very similiar style. A little bit of "Baltar's Theme" as well. I think Bear did that on purpose.

  • Thanks to both of you for the info. I think the Phillip Glass piece is really nice.

And yeah it sound like Baltar's theme too. If this was made on purpose maybe it is a sign that there's a connection between Kara & Gaius, like some people seem to think.

  • Hmmm, maybe. I guess we'll find out soon.

  • That guy has some serious talent.

  • Doh.. it's gone.. were you asked to remove it? Or is it just my computer?

  • I can still see the video. I just cleaned my cache and tried it, worked fine.

  • Thanks.. Still can't, but the same thing happened with another vid. I couldn't see it, but others could... perhaps something to do with me being in South Korea?

  • AWESOME! can't wait to hear all of his music on Caprica ;)

  • First comment! Sounds great... waiting for the CD will be hard!

  • Good news! Bear told me that it is very likely that they release the CD at the same time the "Caprica" DVD will be released. That's in late April.
