  • @HammarHeart Bad ass is a genre now.. it contains the melvins.

  • Genres suck. Listen if you like it or go away.

  • Some weird people would certainly not agree, but I believe this is simply MUSIC.

  • The Melvins are The Melvins. No genres needed.

  • For the love of god, can we please get some more cow bell, for fuck sake... 1:43, nevermind, we're golden

  • best

    haircut

    ever

  • good music is good.

  • King Buzzo!

  • If the Melvins were small enough to fit in a genre they wouldn't be the Melvins

  • @Cyrillion

You went straight into it. They are one of most inspirating band since the late 80's, it's almost like they created everything in alternative metal.

  • Melvins Rock..period!

  • How do we know what genre to search under if we don't know where to begin?

  • I believe the Melvins are classified under "MELVINS".

  • i dont get the point of two drummers...

  • @toriplatypus you sir, are a moron. the dont always play the same thing for one. and when they play together it sounds a fuck tonne thicker. its not possible for the to be EXACLTY! together. thus making the drums sounds a fuck tonne more awesome.

  • @ITouchTheElderly wooooooh

xD i just dont get the point... and im not asking for some fat guys answer (:

  • Im gonna kill that nazi-bitch

  • Princess Leia on bass

  • @sideburnstijger The mutant offspring of Leia and Chewie

  • Two drummers. I think it's cool how people can turn into machines and do the same thing

  • I like

  • buzzo

  • everyone shut the fuck about about trying to fit the melvins into some arbitrary genre. yes, their music contains elements of sludge, drone, grunge, punk, metal, ambient, alternative rock, etc... but to say they are any of those things would be wrong, because they are unclassifiable.

jesus, what is this obsession you people have with fitting everything into these sterile, divisive categorizations... just listen to the damn music without all these preconceptions and take it for what it is...

  • @HammarHeart I totally agree..........lets just call it UnPop! Go the Melvins.

  • @HammarHeart It would be nice if humanity thought that way. Sadly, we don't. That includes me. I don't think that way. I fit things into genres, as do you. As does everybody from Beethoven to King Buzzo himself.

  • @HammarHeart Most of the time people want to find what genre a band is so they can find other bands that do similar stuff. That said, personally I would label them something like Experimental Sludge

  • @HammarHeart Fitting music into genres makes new music easier to find. Yes, the Melvins are very difficult to class, but becuase their music contains multiple genres then you can say they are part of multiple genres, as they quite simply ARE. I would just settle on "music of much variation, including a bit of this and that."

  • OMG the bassist IS shaycarl

  • retards dont know shit about the melvins

  • thsi just blew my mind

  • what is the name of the song?

  • @IOU203 The Talking Horse

  • @IOU203 talking horse

  • i don't even see grunge as a genre to be honest. if you look at nirvana and mudhoney and compare them to bands like love battery, they're entirely different. love battery is more psycadelic rock but they're still called grunge. to me grunge is most of the awsome bands from the early 90s. i just see it as a way to group all the sub pop (and a few other) bands together. i mean to me grunge is punk. maybe alittle diferent but still mostly punk

  • I wonder if the guys ever considered giving lessons in being pure badass?

  • Don't know what the dickens people are on about - Melvins are pure sludge.

Personally, I've never heard sludge with continual blastbeats, and little with screaming. Thought that was saved for the -core kids.

  • sludgegrunge?

  • WOW!

  • I really know which genre it is ...!

    It is Melvin music!!

  • os melvins sao simplesmente os melvins.

  • fucking awesome!! no make up, no faggy tight pants!!!!

  • how about "grudge"?

  • wut song is this?

  • @jelizarose6 The Talking Horse

  • Melvins invented grunge, bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam commercialised it. If you disagree take it up with Danny Carey

  • We really need more of these hairdoos and especially more of this type Muzak. I think I'll go out to the garage and "test" my amp.

  • they were before they nirvana era!

***cobain was taught ho to play guitar by buzzo***! they lived in the same building!

  • how about grudge metal?

  • This is new to me, and I love it.

  • Sometimes I want to crawl into Buzz's hair and just lose myself.

  • whats the name of the song?

  • most greatest underrated band!!!!!!

  • Neato, thankx mate :)

  • Are there normally two drummers? And if not then why are they using two drummers?

  • @violatorut2003 cuz when Buzz needed a bass player he found the bass player from big business and just added the whole band instead.

  • I love his hair.

  • Even Wikipedia knows what "blastbeats" are. They have absolutely NOTHING to do with "sludge".

  • Last time I checked, blast beats had nothing to do with "sludge". It's rather a "grindcore trademark".

  • @flamesfearfuture dumbasss you prolly dont no shit about grind

  • scuzzy awesomeness. try that for a melvins genre.

  • What is this song call ?

  • @TobeyCZ the talking horse

  • @nick91stick thank

  • @TobeyCZ Thid song is called "The Talking Horse"

  • god, buzzo looks like a freak =]

  • @ parade

dude although i agree with you about them not being anything specific sludge doesnt have any blast beat drumming grind core and shit like cannibal corpse has blast beats not sludge!!!

  • special flavor of awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • melvins call it melvins.

  • it kinda sounds like hardcore punk

  • 1) what album is this from

    2) what are the 3 most essential Melvins albums? I am just getting into them, and am not about to buy 19 albums.

  • @Bulldog22031 This is from a senile animal- All melvins albums are essential Just Buy them one at a time, starting with The most recent, and working backwards all the way to OZMA/Gluey Porch Treatments- Maybe skip Mangled demos from 1983, as well as Prick, those are kind of unlistenable-

  • what's the name of the song they're playing?

it has been stuck in my head for days and I fuckin' want it!

  • @flowjob2 the talking horse!!

  • now i have even more respect for arte tv!

  • Stoner Rock!

  • simply one of the best ive heard............and the drummers.

  • Pearl Jam is technically grunge, I would definatly not call this grunge. Although I do like pearjam.

I also wouldn't call the Melvins sludge, caus they don't scream, and their drummer doesn't play blast beats all the damn time. The Melvins are a special flavor of awesome undefinable by earth's current list of genres.

  • If you want grunge, check out TAD:

    Tad - Ictus

    watch?v=E3uZHf09bNM

    Tad- Helot

    watch?v=4louOXPp7LE

    LIVE...

    Tad - Lycanthrope (1993)

    watch?v=XEArEFfFOB4

    TAD - Daisy

    watch?v=sxPkO0QkPtU

  • Yeah, TAD was great.

  • @parade

    Excellent post.

  • @parade I think they technically just hardcore, which is where grunge came from. But your right, like a lot of alternative bands you can't simply define them in subgenres, they are blends of everything that came before.

I think every band in the Seattle area just got labeled grunge at the time because of the popularity, the entire genre is essentially fabricated. They are all just different blends of alternative and hardcore.

  • @parade This Is Definatly GRungE! put it this way... if the melvins are playing it, it's grunge!

  • @parade Grunge was just metal music that started in seattle man, like the Melvins. So this is Grunge actually, technically.

  • @sorlag110 Is Rock!!!!, get over it please

  • @parade You don;t have to scream or play blast beats to be sludge. Sludge is just used to describe fuzzy, messy dropped tuned heavy music. I agree though that the Melvins defy most al genres, I'm not one for genres though...

  • @parade they are punk rock the true epidamy of contemporary punk rock

  • @pot4tots Punk? Rock? HARDCORE? Where do you crazy kids come up with these ideas.

For the record, hardcore music makes me wanna puke blood, and the melvins do the opposite.

  • @parade What do you call it or what are those genres i just named?? cause im sure they mean something completly different to me than they do to you so maybe we should just say fuck the labels and lay on the fact that the MELVINS KICK ASS

  • @parade

Yeah dude, sludge definitely has blast beats. You obviously know your genres well.

  • @parade its called sludge

  • @parade sludge has blast beats?????NOoo.....The melvins are just the melvins..if anything they are punk, but all this labeling is stupid anyways. I dont even call Pearl Jam grunge..its just rock music to me.

  • @parade

The melvins are a the world's best fucking rock group. No subgenres... no stupid made up names just good old fashioned hard rock n' roll.

  • @parade how about srunge?? :)

  • @parade Poser... sludge isn't about screaming or blastbeats... Sludge doensn't have blastbeats at all...

  • @parade grunge is a meaningless word sludge is a meaningless word the only viable words that could be used to describe this is either punk rock or just rock n fuckin roll

  • @parade Agreed, i prefer to catergorise the Melvins myself as 'drone'!! Not grunge, not metal enough for sludge etc. They have their own brand or flavor as you say, what comes to me whether they are playing fast tracks like this or slow sludgey tracks like nightgoat is drone!! Hard to explain but thats why melvins have their own unique sound. Sloppy (not technically sloppy), droning, sludgy riffs! -thats about the best i can describe em! :))

  • @parade no but at 1st they were grunge but yeah now its all ballads and shit

  • @xxsubzeroxxxx Accept my friend invite and respond to the comment I left on your channel.

  • @parade w/e happened to just calling it rock n roll? lol all these media labels make me sick to the stomach

  • @parade sludge and blast beats?

    playing grunge?

grunge is just a "life style", is a trend (as it was punk rock in the 1970s) developed from 1980s hc punk and folk music (like early Neil Young).

Melvins just plays rock music with really heavy sounds.

  • @taliskermcchouffe Grunge is a style of music and a way of life, sort of like Punk. Like I said, Pealjam is widely considered grunge.

  • @parade Melvins are the grunge and sludge fathers, ther aren´t sludge cuz they don´t scream?, what are you talking about? haven´t you heard Stag or Houdini or Honky? and scream? that´s for long hair metal shit mens

  • @parade You cant put The Melvins in a catagory... There too fucking good for any of that stupid bull shit. The Melvins are The Melvins.

  • @parade genres make me angry.....take your genre spewing elsewhere.

  • @skrilla420 Really? Posts that state unfounded opinions that add nothing at all to anything at all make me angry.

I was replying to someone calling the melvins grunge, and concluded by saying you can't even define them . If that's "spewing" genres, then maybe you should go elsewhere. I mean other than youtube, cause that's how this shit works.

  • Comment removed

  • @parade You know what i call grunge? A stupid label to try and pigeonhole totally original music.

  • @parade Cant we just listen to music without having to shuv labels on everything? its good music.

  • @fergz101music People need to stop confusing LABELS with GENRES, labels are attached to things, genres are just used to describe how music sounds with words, which would be really annoying to do otherwise. Imagine having to be like: "I heard this band I like, they're pretty heavy heavy"

"Oh yeah, what kinda heavy?" "Like, chun chun chun chun, chugga chugga chugga chugga, chun chun chun, SCREEEEEE"

Yeah, I'd rather tell someone "drone metal" or "stoner rock" or "hip hop" or whatever.

  • @parade But u just said grunge was a label

  • @fergz101music where did I say that?

  • @parade I have never heard of a sludge band performing blast beats, you have your genres confused my good man.

  • @parade I say they can easily be defined as sludge.... as well as many other ridiculous sub-genres... I call it bad fucking ass

  • @parade Sludge defined by screaming and blast beats? That's a new one.

  • @TheWoodish Well give us your definition then SludgeMaster Woodish.

  • @TheWoodish there is nothing new about the MELVINS. they formed in the early 80's and have a special place in the heart of anyone who enjoyed underground mutant rock during that and later time periods. May KING BUZZO reign forever. Do your research cause right now you have SLUDGE for brains. with all due respect.

  • @malkinmario What? You talking to the right person here? Read carefully before you comment dumbass.

  • @TheWoodish oh. I thought you were describing their music and then flippantly saying it was not original. as the 2nd most popular comment it was removed from context. I'm dearly sorry. I'm glad they didn't have youtube when I was young. peace out my fellow melvinite.

  • @parade Blast Beats In Sludge??? Are You Deaf? Crowbar Is Sludge And Never Once, Have I Heard A Single Blast Beat In Any Of Their Songs.

  • @fallen661 People quote me time and time again saying "ugh genres, shut up" or "THAT"S A POOR DESCRIPTION OF SLUDGE" when the point of my post is that FUCK GENRES, the melvins don't need to be affiliated with any of that shit.

But music snobs (a funny phenom where people decide to enjoy the image of liking music more than just enjoying music ) like to point out how much more educated they are about music than everyone... I don't care, maybe my description was balls. The point remains valid.

  • @parade Since when were vocals the defining factor of sludge?

  • wo kann ich mir die sendung anschauen??

auf der arte homepage find ich sie nicht ..

    verdammt geil da video!!!!

  • nirvana sucks compared to the melvins

  • how can u even compare? they dont even begin to sound the same

  • yeah your probably right but I just never really liked nirvana, if there is a good song by them that you would recommend, but not the ones that everyone has heard like smells like teen spirit, heart shaped box, or rape me.

  • territorial pissing

  • @mattguitarist72 u need to check out Something in the Way by nirvana. its one of those songs that sounds like the writer was just a liiitle insane when they wrote it. plus it sounds reaally good. ENJOY!

  • listen to the first album by nirvana : Bleach

something like blew, floyd the barber, paper cuts

  • Tourettes and Very Ape.

  • gestöööööööööööööört aber richtig geil.... melvins are fucking crazy .....

  • awesome fucking performance!

  • lol grunge.

    try sludge.

  • Dale has a few parts in the show where he is singing. The other two are background-vocals.

  • Out of curiosity, are all 4 members doing vocals? It looks like Dale and Coady both have headsets on for singing through or whatever, but I can only distinguish Buzz and Jared's voices.

  • all of them...

  • wat song is this

  • The Talking Horse.

  • jesus! awesome!

  • i love when there are 2 drums and and they do not play the same

  • that had to put the stupid french woman over the best riff didnt they... nevermind :P

  • you're an idiot ;-)

    find out why

  • german not french ^^

  • whats the name of this song?

  • the talking horse

  • The Talkin Horse

  • the melvins are icons, truly unique and incredible.

  • this band is purly for the drumming to me, its cool to check out but the guitar, and bass are like half assed background filler for soem seriously cool drumming, the vocals are pretty cool, if you where to break this down into a fruity loops track and took it as note for note, the drumms would stand out and the vocals, and strings would be augments and accent, none the less its pretty flippin sweet

  • Plexeus what the fuck are you talking about?

Your grammar and your opinion are both worthless!

    Flippin Idiot!

  • Melvin 's hair rules!

  • I had heard some songs by these guys. But after seeing them live, I realize how much talent they really have. Marvelously unique band.

  • i guess i'm seeing these guys with down tonight

  • this video is flipping AWESOME!

  • whats the name of this song?!

  • talking horse

  • big sound heavy tone

  • Good band......but not, by no means ,the best.

  • grunge

  • There is no band in the world capable of what this band brings to the dinner table. No band. If you haven't yet seen them live, you're missing out on a lifelong impact. Dale & Coady really could use a few extra drums, though...

  • what a ridiculous claim. thats a joke if i ever heard one. this is gimmick rock, its not that good. I'll take Tool. nuff said.

  • Gimmick Rock?! I guess thats why they've been around for more than 25 years. Besides, Tool's covered Melvin's songs. The Melvin's are one of the most influential bands of our time. Most GOOD rock acts credit the Melvin's as being an influence on their sound. Save yor coments for something you know about . (It's obviously not music)

  • sorry if this sounds like garbage. truly i am. this is ridiculous. no part of this impressed me. seriously, where is the substance to this? in the lyrics? the hair? wtf...

  • I seriously don't believe their music translates at all well through a computer. If you like Tool, I'm sure you'd be more than impressed with them live. I'm sure I won't be able to convince you of that! From my heart, great band. If I saw them for the 1st time through a computer, I'd probably say the same thing.

  • Dude ur a Buckethead fan and ur bitchin about Gimmick Rock...thats pretty hypocritical that haha

  • i agree his image is as much of a gimmick/ attention getter/ distraction as these guys. but his music speaks volumes. and not his guitar hero music. his REAL music. all im saying is that this has little substance to grasp and appreciate. and im sorry if you like this, because there is MUCH better out there. and no not just buckethead. although he probably has 40 songs better than any of the melvins best or most popular songs.

  • yeah but ur comapring Buckethead to the Melvins totally different...fans like the melvins as they really are partly responsible for inspiring alot of great bands that later went to the mainstream...ppl respect Buzzo and the guys for not ever selling out and still playing their style throughout many lineup changes, any underground rock fan should respect ppls opinions as alot of ppl dont have the same idea of what creative music is

  • tool sucks you dickhead admit it

  • what's the name of this kind of musik ?¿?¿?

  • Bad Ass....

  • It's called Melvins, man.

  • To my ears, the Melvins are the best and most truly unique grunge band ever. Take punk and alternative and metal and everything you like, throw it in a blender, and out comes this awesomeness. Of course, they are way more visionary than the word "grunge" has come to represent.

  • Yea. And they're basically considered the first 'grunge' band.

Although do be careful, they hate that term. Most 'grunge' bands did. Like 'kfant' said, the term Sludge is much better :)

  • MELVINS!

  • Love Melvins so so fuckin much!!!!!

  • 5 stars!

  • What song is this!!!!
