The MTU-engine is a german construction, you can start it, if the engine is warm, you can´t start it cold like other british loco engine, so, it has "clean" exhausts!^^
@vectorm1299 more like 148 mph I think but still pretty impressive, the HST was certainly capable of a lot more than track conditions allowed, which is the only reason its limited to 125 mph
Well what can i say? the video is good but i had to turn my volume up full to hear the start up,those engines are crap, come back the valenta's all is forgiven.........lol
@Sephy69 It's a computer-generated announcement from a set of recordings - they use the same (or similar) system at Amsterdam Schiphol. Hell of a lot better than it used to be - you can at least make out that the train is going to North Berwick lol
@gner125 I'm with you totally. Valentas are awesome but if the MTUs mean that we can get a few extra years out of these 43s and create less emissions then I'd rather we had that than a roaring start and a diesel-flavoured cough once they've left ;)
Did you used a JVC Everio camcorder?

I still think the valenta should have been given a last hurrah, and given the chance to run without speed limits along HS1.
By no speed limits i mean both track speeds.
Mechanicly and electricly restrictions lifted.
If i recall correctly the prototype HST managed 168mph (correct me if i'm wrong) on normal BR tracks. No where near tracks the condition of HS1
