  • You can use an iPhone to control keynotes on the iPad using the keynote remote app.

  • Can the iPad 2 mirror everything? All apps?

  • around 1:40 you said ipod, not ipad

  • Very Helpful! Thanks!

  • Has anyone tried this with an iphone 3, 3GS, 4 ?

  • @omegaphoenix6 I works with the iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, iPad, and iPad 2 only.

  • @DetroitBORG Thx for the reply!

  • can u fit the case in keybord

  • Is it possible to use this in reverse? I would like to use the iPad as a small VGA display.

  • @miamigroove No, you can only output.

  • I have a question, I have an iPad 1 with the VGA adapter for the iPad. I need to give a presentation in a week or so. The TV always says NO DEVICE INPUT meaning its not detecting it however when I hook up my laptop it detects it right away.

    Any ideas?

  • @themacbookone Did you get this figured out? Im having the same issues

  • @themacbookone The iPad only outputs video over VGA when you've launched a compatible app, like Keynote.

  • Does this also work directly with the ipad? or do you NEED the station?

  • Are you using an ipad1 or 2?

  • @kingdame83 This was iPad 1, I have an iPad 2 demo as well...little has changed however.

  • Are you using a Ipad 1 or 2?

  • 1:37 "Lets try and play a Movie with the iPod!!!" Fail

  • @ipodinfo1234 it was the iPod app

  • will this work with netflix

  • @Norizabeast Yes!

  • @DetroitBORG My teacher hooked this up to his Ipad, but it wouldn't play his movie due to copyright stuff. why is the movie playing on ur iPad but not his?

  • @salman6896 The VGA adapter only allows mirroring on iPad 2. iPad 1 will only work for certain applications.

  • Wonderful presentation im def subbing

  • @sphere191 Thanks :)

  • Is it possible to display safari content or another browser like Opera?

    Thanks

  • @iamatubertoo Unfortunately no you can't.

  • @DetroitBORG install icab mobile maybe then you can have the website you view on the big screen (Y)

  • @iamatubertoo

If you get yourself an iPad 2 and connect the HDMI adapter to it, you can ;)

  • will this work with Pages?

    thanks for the demo

  • @mugen1philley No, but it will work with keynote in slideshow mode.

  • If I can't use it to watch movies , can I use it to watch tv show or apple keynote podcast?

  • @xpv007 The copyright holder determines this, so no guarantee TV Shows purchased via iTunes will work either. And yes, you can output keynote presentations through this.

  • Does it work with iphone?

  • @McSaibot It does, I actually have a demo of that on my channel.

  • Or get a computer.

  • Anybody know if you can use a remote desktop app like LogMeIn Ignition and output to the projector?

  • Great vid.

I wish apple would let u see everything displayed sovi could see safari and games etc or pages on a bigger screen .

  • @SunseekerPredator130 its possible with a jailbreak.

  • only some apps work.....the next ipad should have a camera and a USB port!!!

  • @yogetout I'm doubting a USB port, but you can count on two cameras.

  • no way to output safari from ipad to the big screen?

  • @alantan79 Not unless you jailbreak or work as a developer at Apple :).

  • this work with windows?

  • @Kjonas171 How so? You're not interfacing with Mac or Windows when you output to a monitor.

  • Is it good to use your ipad with laet's say gogle docs to write on a bigger screen?

Are downloaded avi possible to be viewed on it?

  • @TheBelva85 Google recently enabled Google Document editing for Mobile Devices (like iOS) but I haven't really tried it yet. It will work with iPhone, iPod, and iPad. However, you can't output Safari through the VGA adapter. You can use the free VLC app to sync and playback avi files, there are also other solutions like Cinexplayer or AirVideo.

  • ABC does not work for me with the adapter!! Is there a reason why?

  • @jonivego It should work now, make sure you have updated the ABC player app.

  • Does it support 120hz displays for 3D DLP support :-)

  • Super vid! :-)

  • i noticed your using the flip video cam , what pod are using with it?

  • @Dmonkey2132 pod?

  • @DetroitBORG he means your flip-stand, is it a tripod or did you tape it to a stick?

  • @yannick128 @Dmonkey2132 I'm using a Tripod

  • the next ipad should have HDMI and DLNA.

  • @Saroku12 I don't think we'll ever see that, Apple is pushing wireless with the Apple TV and "AirPlay".

  • @Saroku12 It's rumored it'll have Mini DisplayPort which can carry HDMI signal through an adapter

  • 3:30-3:34 You get a e-mail :D

  • nice job!

  • What if you begin running out of battery while playing a movie on an external display?

  • @asCii88 Wish i could answer that, but only the iPad will show you the battery status or alerts, once depleted you can assume everything will quit working.

  • How to get iPad to display fully onto monitor

    1). Buy the VGA Adapter.

    2). Jailbreak iPad.

3). By Display Out from Cydia.

    4). Voilà !

If you wish to be extra cool, download BT Stack from cydia to pair a mouse and keyboard to the iPad.

  • So the ipad cannot ??mirror onto the screen? and does the ABC player and Netflix app work ??

  • @applefreak66 Correct, you can't output the iPad screen beyond the playback of video. And yes, the ABC Player and Netflix player will output video through the VGA adapter.

  • @DetroitBORG Would this work with the elements app? Or not?

  • @Videoseeker234 I don't have the app to test, but I'm doubtful.

  • is the video slow on the iPad when using it on YouTube???

  • @apotikallo Not sure I fully understand the question, but YouTube video quality is excellent on the iPad, it's never slow. Video quality is downgraded when watching YouTube videos over the 3G network, but that's only a concern if you are using a 3G iPad on a 3G network.

  • @canzan100 I know what you mean, but I don't quite look like a Romulan ;)

  • I connected the adapter to the ipad and can not get it to work. I also downloaded VGA Expedition and still can not get it to work. Please help.

  • @rucciaamodt The VGA Adapter only outputs certain content, such as video podcasts or video from certain apps like the ABC Player. Make sure you try outputting a source that is known to work with the VGA Adapter. Some DRM content from iTunes won't work at all. I haven't used VGA Expedition so I can't test it. Try a different monitor as well, might be an issue with the display.

  • @Newbl3t Yep, I did that many times during these videos, you should see the bloopers.

  • does tvcatchup . com on ipad work with this??

  • @AsparksSHOW i'm in the US so it won't let me download the app or login to the web app.

  • if u unboxed all those macs and macbooks why th f*** do u have a cheep ass view sonic monitor

  • @ilovemacintosh100 It's a monitor from my PC graveyard, I don't have any peripheral monitors in use anymore. This was actually sitting in my basement unused for a few years.

  • can you connect that VGA adapter to Ipad without a dock? Thanks.

  • @gabyavra Yes, no dock required to use the VGA connector!

  • See, I'm put off by the ridiculously short cable. If I wanna try and plug my ipad into the back of my TV, it simply isn't gonna reach...

  • @zQWASZX The VGA Adapter is female so it requires you to use a male VGA cable connected to the display/projector.

  • I wonder if a Jailbroken iPad can mirror it's screen with an external monitor...

  • @danhellerjr I don't know of VGA output hacks, but there are Wi-Fi VNC viewers on Jailbroken iPhones that allow you to display the iPhone's screen on your computer over Wi-Fi. Veency is one of them.

  • Wow... this is before you started saying Deeeetroiiit borgggggggg

  • @popopool Keep going back and you'll run into videos where I don't even talk or edit! ;)

  • will it work with an itouch

  • @CrazyTechTime No, it only works with iPad.

  • I purchased two of these when we got our iPads... all I can say is "WHAT A POS!!!"

I sent them right back... I was thinking "VGA Adapter" meant everything that goes to the screen of the iPad would go to the monitor screen... not no.. but HELL no...

Why didn't Apple make it that way??

  • @gspotr69 Part of the problem has to do with resolving how to display the iPad UI on non-standardized monitors or projectors. A full-featured OS has the ability to scale and adapt to the resolutions of different monitors and sources (thanks to a huge array of drivers), but the iOS doesn't have this capability and the hardware is incapable of scaling the output. So that means the iPad can only output a standard video at a standard resolution which the input device can use and scale itself.

  • Very useful

  • super extremely useful is you don't want to bring your laptop but need to present something onto a bigger screen :D

  • @MRA9700 See my comment... not everything on the iPad screen goes to the external monitor... that's why I sent 'em back.

  • Great video. I'm working on a presentation now but not sure how an application restricts or allows the usage of the application to be visible.

For example, Steve's keynote on the iPad enabled him to actually show safari and him guiding through the device. Are you aware of how to do that?

  • @deshonlive Only Apple has access to this capability, developers can virtualize their apps on a computer, but only their apps. So right now there is no way to directly output the display of the iPad.

  • Do movies that are not downloaded from iTunes work????

And can you create keynotes/pages docs while connected???

  • @oscarroseforest1 From what I can tell, only DRM movies will not playback over the VGA adapter. So if you sync movies to your iPad that have no DRM restrictions, you will be fine.

  • what´s about iworks für ipad und vga on an extern monitor? - kann you work with a iworks on an extern monitor?

  • @Hironimus17 You can only output Keynote slideshows to an external monitor, otherwise there is not output when running any of the iWork apps.

  • they fixed abc player

  • @GoldenHeartedTV Yes, I need to post an annotation to the video alerting people.

  • does it charge ipad while connected with VGA ??

  • @hhassann1980 No, VGA sources don't output voltage so no charging possible.

  • Thanks. I wanted to see how Keynote worked with external displays. It's pretty disappointing. Even the iPhone remote for Keynote shows the next slide. By the way, can the iPhone Keynote app be used to control the iPad? Most of the time my computer is up in the tech room while I'm on the stage controlling it via bluetooth remote control but there doesn't seem to be a way remotely control the iPad.

  • @kockgunner To my knowledge, there is no app to remotely control the iPad from another device. Part of the issue is that Apple doesn't allow remote access to the iPhone OS so perhaps there are some jail breaking options.

  • haha you sound like the guy from the AT&T commercials

  • @kevinator231 Well, wish they paid me as much as I pay them ;)

  • How does one use VGA and charge the iPad simultaneously?

  • @gertvanderpaelt You can't. Perhaps a third party manufacturer will invent a splitter...if that's possible.

  • You saved me some money; using it with Netflix was the main reason I was interested in the VGA adapter. I don't understand the rationale...

  • @ayj984l3 I'm not sure how much of this is Apple, and how much of this is the app. It's clear that developers have the SDK to output to the VGA adapter if they choose.

  • Is there any way to display the home page and run application programs that will display on the monitor. I want to give a presentation of the iPad.

  • keynote is awesome, the is even a "laser pointer" just tap and hold to show laser pointer on the presentation. i'm looking forward to get my adapter ;) thx for the video!

  • another question can you use the apple remote when the ipad is connected to an apple dock?

  • Question i own a macbook and have a similar adapter that will let me connect my macbook to a monitor. when my macbook is connected and i turn the brightness all it practically blanks the screen allowing me to enjoy a movie with out getting distracted from it showing on two screens. Assuming you have your ipad connected to the keyboard can you also turn the brightness all the way down to enjoy a movie or youtube video?

  • @utubestrong and i turn the brightness all.... the way down....

    sorry about that

  • This is a very disappointing adapter. I expected this VGA adapter to be what Jobs used during the Keynote speech about the iPad to show the screen on the projector.... Lame.

  • Hey, I have the same Monitor!

  • @Applesadge117 Yep, my old Viewsonic fro my HP PC days ;) Now it gets dusted off every once in awhile to be my guinea pig.

  • very dissapointing adopter

  • thank you there is absolutely no reason to buy this adapter except for keynote and stuff. I'll prolly get it later after u know.

  • This is a good review and convinces me that I'll not spend any time trying to watch iPad video content on my TV. Instead, I'll stick to playing it through my MacBook which uses DVI with no restrictions (that I know of) regarding content. Apple has its own reasons for severely limiting iPad output, but this somewhat un-transparent decision diminishes the value of the product.

  • I have tried the Iphone RCA adapter, it worked great....for a while, the first Itunes movie selected played fine, but once I shut it down the picture froze on the tv, and when I tried to resume anything, the frozen pic from the first video stayed frozen on the tv and the next movie played on the ipad, but the audio came out the tv. Even when I disconnected and reconnected the cable, the same frozen picture appeared....more work must be done, sucks if it can't be hooked up to a tv either

  • Pretty bad you can't watch a movie you paid for, next you will tell me Netflix doesn't work...lucky for me the screen is big enough, after all my TV is only 8 inches anyway, but I do have a nice 23" monitor.

  • @johnmonk66 Indeed, Netflix won't play through the adapter either.

  • you can just turn down the screen brightness

  • Does It Work With An iPhone Or iPod Touch?

15 Pin Adapter So You Never Know?

  • This works very much like the Apple Composite AV Cable. It allows you to do the same exact stuff on any T.V. and it does work with the iPad. Check out my Apple Composite AV Cable demonstration if you would like more information.

  • @RAILTECHCHASER What are you talking about? You do not have a video showing the composite cable works with Ipad

  • @johnmonk66 I don't have an iPad. That video wasmade back in January. My point was to show how the cable works.

  • @RAILTECHCHASER Excuse me, YOU clearly said it works with the Ipad, now you are saying you don't know? Why tell everyone it works with the Ipad if you don't know?

  • 1 word: WORTHLESS.

  • In the iPod shuffle unboxxing video you said your trying to collect all the iPods, are you gonna get every other generation of iPads as well?

  • @dagamelord Probably, I'm also picking up the iPad 3G.

  • whe3re y buy it

  • @strickmans The Apple Store under iPad accessories.

  • the ipad should turn into a monitor not the actual monitor...

  • @Xndingo11 what

  • @Xndingo11 Yep, that would be epic!

  • @McMichael96 that's what stuff like that are supposed to have!like the dock!they should have made it so when u dock it,u press a button and it works as a secondary screen!i meen come on!

  • @Xndingo11 It would have been nice, but it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't enable such a feature. There are some workarounds that turn the iPad into a 2nd monitor by running a VNC client.
