But, hey, maybe Lou Barletta could make this work. Right? Probably not. Barletta has made bad decision after bad decision, bringing Hazleton to her knees and on the verge of bankruptcy. He wasted millions in trying to defend his mindless “Illegal Immigration Relief Act” in Federal Court. He illegally used the city’s pension fund for purpose it wasn’t intended for, and needed the State to come to the rescue of the city. Honestly,He’s just not very good with money.
According to the FEC, Mayor Barletta has $236,807 in cash on hand. He’s already spent $340,748 and now has a debt of $263,170. If you are Lou Barletta, or one of his supporters, these numbers should really concern you.
Barletta has withdrawn over $3 million from the city pension fund, using that money to try and balance the city budget (it didn’t work). When Barletta did this, it was actually illegal and the city was ordered to pay the money back to the pension fund. Doing so would have resulted in the city going bankrupt
The Public Employee Retirement Commission recently released a report which shows that Hazleton’s pension fund is in a “distressed status.” As of right now, the city only has enough money to pay 52% of it’s obligation to its retired city employees.
Temple University is teaching a course titled, The War in Hazleton. The course discusses the possible impact that Mayor Lou Barletta, and his unconstitutional immigration policies have had on race and community relations in Hazleton.
Mayor Lou Barletta, who is running for Congress against Representative Paul Kanjorski, has accepted $2,000 is campaign donations from two men who were once involved with a Luzerne County cocaine ring. According to FEC campaign donation records, and as reported by the Citizens Voice, the Barletta campaign has accepted $1,000 each from Paul and Neal DeAngelo.
